I think that it IS child abuse, because it will hurt the kids later in life. Some kid named Adolf Hitler? The child's going to end up getting beaten up by a bunch of kids at school for a name that's not their fault. Stupid, stupid parents. There was a woman on the news who was from the Twin Cities, who named her little girl Vagina.

They seem to be white supremacists. 'Aryan Nation' and 'Adolf Hitler' seems to state the obvious. But raising children in an environment where you are named after a horrendous and cruel dictator would most likely harm the children.

I guess I agree both ways. I'm torn.
It's really wrong to name your child Adolf Hitler, I mean if it were just Adolf, thats ok, its a common German name, but to string Hitler along, I mean seriously what were there parents thinking? Where they even thinking about the consquences that could follow? How there children are going to go through contant bullying, harasment, and teasing about there name(s)?
What is little Adolf Hitler going to say when he learns about the holoucast, that he was named after a man who is responsible for killing over 1 million jewish people?!!
Yet it isn't child abuse unless the parents are emotionally, phsyically, or sexually asaulting them. Where there parents raping them? Punching them? Calling them names? Not that I know of, if they are taken care of and raised in a wholesome house, then they shouldn't be taken away.
What the police can do is force the parents to change the kids names, but take the kids away? No, thats a little to far.

im not sure about you guys, but i feel concerned about those kids. if their parents are crazy enough to name them that, then who knows what the could do. but on the other hand, it is quite funny. *giggle* what would make this absolutely priceless? if they were jews! XDD

Oooooh......A kid has a unique name, let's take him from his family and ruin his life. That's basically what the police are doing and it's the STUPIDEST thin I've ever heard. So what if the kid is different, that's no reason to get the police involved!

DYFS really messed up this time. I've heard of some weird cases, but come on. Adolf Hitler is a name, people. Get over it. Okay, so it was the name of a dictator back in the 40's. There are so many more criminals who have the same name as other children. It's not that big a deal.

Come on guys. Seriously?

That is dumb. Just because someone names their kid Adolf Hiter does not mean they're a Nazi. Perhaps they like the sound of it together. Besides the kid can just go by Adolf if it's such a problem. Also are any little kids really going to recognize Adolf Hitler was when it was so long ago?
I don't think they should have gotten taken away.

Just a quick update - no ruling has been made yet with these kids. I think they're still in state custody.

Poor kiddos...

They should have thought how the names would have affected the children, but I don't think it's abuse. However, if they can get adopted into another family who will change their name, then I guess that's ok, right?

Sure it's just a name but think about this from the kid's point of view. He and his sister are both victims of somethig that cannot be classified as child abuse but it will haunt them. Think about going up to someone and saying "Hey my name is Adolf Hitler Campbell! Wanna play in the sandbox?" He just wants to be a normal child but that name will prevent him from making the much needed social contact with other children. It's nothing against him, but most parents worry about anything that may corrupt their precious children. I think that this may be a bit overblown but hopefully the kids will be able to get their names changed
(the "Aryan Race" thing definantly needs to be changed)

Name a kid Adolf Hitler and you're gonna get the horns.

It's to be expected. But both sides are at fault. The Campbell family because naming your kid after someone so disliked, the child is going to have life problems, socially, possibly mentally and if someone doesn't like the child enough, physically. But this is bad-case-scenario (worst being... much worse, but unlikely).

Now the police are at fault because the children are being raised well as far as I'm concerned. They have good, healthy bodies, bedtime, schooling, a perfectly good life. There is no reason to take the children away because of a name that someone deems so inappropriate that the child need be removed from the home. That's ridiculous.

Just my opinion.

I'd understand naming a child "Adolf", because that's a normal German name, y'know, but tagging on "Hitler" is just...it's awful. You don't name a child "Adolf Hitler" because of the context said name has been used in throughout history. It's kind of like if someone went to name their kid "Charles Manson" or "John Wayne Gacy" or "Theodore Bundy". The names by themselves are good, but when put together, it's just wrong.

I don't think they had the power to take the kids away, but maybe they should've just stopped at doing a thorough search and maybe making them change their children's names.

"Aryan Nation" does kind of raise a lot of red lights.

I don't think that the authorities had any right to take these children away for their NAMES. It's a name. Plenty of people get tortured for their names. It's just a name, it does not say who the child is or will become as a person. If, as the children grows older and wants a name change, that of course should be respected and dealt with as such. But these parents are not doing anything horrible to their children for simply naming them. No one has any right to separate this famiy over such a ridiculous matter.

I wouldn't consider naming your child something odd abuse...
And I don't think the authorites had the right to take the children away. Yeah naming your kid Adolf Hitler and Aryan Nation is suspicious and quite frankly weird, but look at what some celebrities name their kids! Pilot Inspektor? Apple? Those are some pretty out there names, but you don't see celebs getting their kids taken away.

Though I do suspect something is a little fishy with the parents. Honestly who names their kid Hitler when there is such a stigma that follows it?

Come on, they named their kid Adolf Hitler. I'm not a Nazi nor do I support Nazism, but it's a name. Hitler did terrible things, but maybe I'd name my kid Adolf or Hitler because I like the sound of it. It's just a name. yeesh...

That wasn't right.
The parents have full rights to their children's names, and they can change them when they're adults if they want to.
It's not like anyone thinks he's the REAL adolf hitler! he's been dead for ages!

this was all ridiculous.
