I personally believe that the word "depression" is too strong for this feeling people claim they are getting.
    Sadness seems about right.

I'm not very old (thirteen), a young-adult if you will, but Avatar was a movie that gave me a whole new perspective on life and seriously opened up my eyes.

Pandora was truly, gob-smackingly beautiful in a whole new way of it's own. It made our world seem dull and grey…slightly boring even. Ever since I saw that award winning movie that was worth every second of watching, I now fantasise about being a Na'vi and occasionally think about what it would be like to live on Pandora daily. :)

It really was a fantastic movie, but I don't understand why some people would drive themselves to insanity or commit suicide over something like that.

I think your right, everything starts with an idea, so maybe someday we could have a world like that, we just need to try.
So its silly for people to be 'depressed', if you want a world like that get off the couch and do something about it.
Go plant a tree or something..

Well, Pocahantos and Fern Gully were depressing enough on their own. When you mix them together, you just make people want to kill themselves.

These people only need a sprinkle of imagination to overcome their depression. Either that, or they should plant a garden...contribute to save this dying world.

Chain me free, yeah, it's most likely not actual depression (which is used way too lightly anyways), It's mainly just feeling down because you're not apart of it, kind ofa like when there's a delicious cake RIGHT THERE, but you can't having.. Cuz it's plastic or something.

I wouldn't call this clinical depression to be honest.
    I think it's a temporary overreaction.

I feel like I'm one of very few people who weren't impressed with Avatar. I actually fell asleep in the cinema watching it.

It's hard for me to empathise with those who feel depressed over it.

I can honestly understand this. Avatar presented a new world, a world where we were all at one , where it was full of life. I absolutely LOVED Avatar, and am willing to go see it 3 more times in the theatre, with it being one the best made movies of the century (to me atleast. xP)
And yeah, after the movie I was bummed that I couldn't turn into a 11ft tall blue creature thing in a world that was full of life, but not so much to be depressed and suicidal.

And to those of you who think it's a silly thing, it honestly is not as silly as it seems. Sure it's a movie, but it's not /just/ a movie, it's a real eye opener to the sort of world that we are missing out on because we're greedy lil monsters.

This was a great article, good job. :D

After watching Avatar, I thought that our world was ugly, but I didn't get depressed or anything. I thought our world was ugly to begin with because we destroy forests and everything anyway. Shifty

I can see where they're coming from, but it's just a movie.
I didn't get depressed because of it.

It's a movie. MAKE BELIEVE. People reporting suicidal thoughts and depression over that is a silly thing to me.

My dd mentioned this to me and I was all wtf? But, I can understand why people would get like that. Still. If that's seriouslythe case they should go talk to someone. It's a movie. It's not real. They need to find a way to deal with that.

I loved the movie Avatar, but after the movie my mom and I were discussing how dull the normally-beautiful night sky seemed after seeing Pandora. We both know it's not a real place so we didn't go into any kind of depression, but I can see where others might have; this movie points out all the problems with our world.

Wow. I thought the movie was awesome. And yeah, Pandora was beautiful, but it's made up. All that movie made me do was appreciate the technology we have today. If people are really getting dperessed about this then they need a serious reality check.
