Okay, I've noticed a lot of people think they have dandruff and use Head and Shoulders. STOP! it's a horrible product and makes it worse and doesn't stop! A real medicated shampoo for dandruff will first make it worse bause it brings everything to the top and then washes it away, then stops producing it. H&S just stops it from coming to the surface, but oh guess what? it's still forming underneath. It will explode on you when you least expect it!

Also dandruff is a fungus and is greaser and chunkier. Scalp/dry scalp everyone has. Remember you skin flakes off your entire body, your scalp is no exception. Tea tree oil is a better option for problem scalp.

If anyone has hair question PLEASE message me. I'm a hair stylist and would love to help with any question.

I've known this for a while, but I have to use Head and Shoulders or... bad things happen O_<. Anyone else who has to use a dandruff shampoo can sympathize. However, when I'm straightening my hair, I only wash it every other day and despite straightening it's weirdly strong and healthy. So if every other day is good for someone with naturally dry hair who's also using a flat-iron, it's probably good for pretty much everyone else too.

I totally agree. I have the thickest, dryest, oiliest hair. and I use Herbal essence hello hydration, ummm I've been using it since I was ten and hello, not hydrated YET. So I tried using the yolk of eggs. Not only does it NOT dry out your hair, give ity natural oils, but it's also safe. It's going green and going better. I really suggest you try it, but only wash it twice a week with lukewarm water, hot water will scramble the egg. :] it works, and you write lovely articles.

This is really cool. I think I'll try it! I've always known shampoo damages your hair, but I never knew that it made your body make extra oils. Ew, that's nasty. Well written!

yeah, i knew that shampoo made your hair worse and it's actually better for your hair just to wash it in water.
i think i'm going to just live without shampoo because it's like one of those miracle cure things that doesn't work, you don't need it to clean your hair because water works just as well.
thanks for writing this, not enough people know.

First off I must say very well written!!! (:

I've known about the shampoo taking away our natural oils for awhile, and when I first found out I started to use less shampoo and would wash my hair every 2-3days and after my body got used to it my hair looked really good and people would ask my secret. My friend uses natural shampoo's and I've picked up on it and I get the same outcome as if I didn't wash my hair every 2-3days.

So do we just use conditioner? Or is there something else we need to use?

    I agree with dysfunctional.
The only damaged part of my hair is the bangs where I've bleached it just a few too many times.
I can't even begin to think of not shampooing or conditioning, but I do only wash my hair every other day, aware of the fact that it strips your natural oils, like you said with less details.

Washing everyday makes your hair greasier. The less you wash the less oil you'll have. It just takes a bit of time.

Strangely I have never found that my hair was ever damaged from shampooing my hair, ever. Although that does make sense; that shampoo does dry out your hair quite efficiently. But still, I couldn't see myself not washing my hair, that to me is disgusting.
Even though, I pretty much religiously shampoo my hair every night, and I have yet to have damage because of it. I think it just depends on your hair type, if your hair has a healthy amount of oil (like mine for instance) then I'll assume it's okay to shampoo regularly, from personal experience, however if it's dry and quite brittle, then I see no harm in skipping a day or two.
Very well written article, and very informative :)

It was a good article, very well written. But I'm curios, after I read the article I went and took a shower, and realized I use two different kinds of shampoo. One is the regular, but one is Head And Shoulders, which prevents dandruff, but since it's a shampoo, does that mean I should stop using it?

Yea- that's interesting, but I highly doubt most people would actually stop washing their hair...

I don't, however, see anything wrong with skipping a day or two of washing your hair, because your hair does get dried out- It could prove to be beneficial to the health of your hair.
But not washing all together? That's just a foreign though in the heads of many...

I agree with Kurtni Monroe. Great research, but it just doesn't convince me to totally abandon it. At best I'm going to use the shampoo at minimum.

Interesting article. I've researched this a while back as well. Most commerical shampoos contain Ammonium lauryl or laureth sulfates among other harsh ingredients that clean but significantly dry our hair out. Most of the time now, I wash my hair with conditioner, and use actual shampoo about once or twice a month. My hair has never been so moisturized...

"You failed to mention the fact that not all shampoo's contain the same ingredients and they don't all kill your hair. If your shampoo is damaging your hair chances are you're using a bad one."
    -----
SLS was an example of a harmful chemical in shampoo, but there are other harmful chemicals. Yes, some shampoos cause less damage to your hair, but the main reason behind this is because the conditioner they come with is better.

I think people need to wash their hair with shampoo and conditioner, conditioner is created that way it'll soften your hair after you wash with shampoo... My hair is REALLY soft, people love it! I wash my hair every morning when I wake up, with both shampoo and conditioner... I understand what you did here, must've taken a long time, but I believe that people should still wash their hair and it's dirty not too...
