No More Shampoo! - Comments

I've known this for a while, but I have to use Head and Shoulders or... bad things happen O_<. Anyone else who has to use a dandruff shampoo can sympathize. However, when I'm straightening my hair, I only wash it every other day and despite straightening it's weirdly strong and healthy. So if every other day is good for someone with naturally dry hair who's also using a flat-iron, it's probably good for pretty much everyone else too.June 30th, 2008 at 11:12pm

I totally agree. I have the thickest, dryest, oiliest hair. and I use Herbal essence hello hydration, ummm I've been using it since I was ten and hello, not hydrated YET. So I tried using the yolk of eggs. Not only does it NOT dry out your hair, give ity natural oils, but it's also safe. It's going green and going better. I really suggest you try it, but only wash it twice a week with lukewarm water, hot water will scramble the egg. :] it works, and you write lovely articles.June 30th, 2008 at 10:37pm

I only wash my hair once a week.
It's in perfect condition.June 30th, 2008 at 10:02pm -
This is really cool. I think I'll try it! I've always known shampoo damages your hair, but I never knew that it made your body make extra oils. Ew, that's nasty. Well written!June 30th, 2008 at 09:46pm

yeah, i knew that shampoo made your hair worse and it's actually better for your hair just to wash it in water.
i think i'm going to just live without shampoo because it's like one of those miracle cure things that doesn't work, you don't need it to clean your hair because water works just as well.
thanks for writing this, not enough people know.

First off I must say very well written!!! (:
I've known about the shampoo taking away our natural oils for awhile, and when I first found out I started to use less shampoo and would wash my hair every 2-3days and after my body got used to it my hair looked really good and people would ask my secret. My friend uses natural shampoo's and I've picked up on it and I get the same outcome as if I didn't wash my hair every 2-3days.June 30th, 2008 at 06:54pm -
but our hair would go greasyJune 30th, 2008 at 06:37pm

So do we just use conditioner? Or is there something else we need to use?June 30th, 2008 at 02:16pm

I agree with dysfunctional.
The only damaged part of my hair is the bangs where I've bleached it just a few too many times.
I can't even begin to think of not shampooing or conditioning, but I do only wash my hair every other day, aware of the fact that it strips your natural oils, like you said with less details.June 30th, 2008 at 10:34am -
I think I'm going to stop shampooing so often...June 30th, 2008 at 05:46am

Washing everyday makes your hair greasier. The less you wash the less oil you'll have. It just takes a bit of time.June 30th, 2008 at 04:19am

Strangely I have never found that my hair was ever damaged from shampooing my hair, ever. Although that does make sense; that shampoo does dry out your hair quite efficiently. But still, I couldn't see myself not washing my hair, that to me is disgusting.
Even though, I pretty much religiously shampoo my hair every night, and I have yet to have damage because of it. I think it just depends on your hair type, if your hair has a healthy amount of oil (like mine for instance) then I'll assume it's okay to shampoo regularly, from personal experience, however if it's dry and quite brittle, then I see no harm in skipping a day or two.
Very well written article, and very informative :)June 30th, 2008 at 04:05am -
It was a good article, very well written. But I'm curios, after I read the article I went and took a shower, and realized I use two different kinds of shampoo. One is the regular, but one is Head And Shoulders, which prevents dandruff, but since it's a shampoo, does that mean I should stop using it?June 30th, 2008 at 01:16am

Yea- that's interesting, but I highly doubt most people would actually stop washing their hair...
I don't, however, see anything wrong with skipping a day or two of washing your hair, because your hair does get dried out- It could prove to be beneficial to the health of your hair.
But not washing all together? That's just a foreign though in the heads of many...June 30th, 2008 at 12:43am -
I agree with Kurtni Monroe. Great research, but it just doesn't convince me to totally abandon it. At best I'm going to use the shampoo at minimum.June 29th, 2008 at 10:29pm

wow very educational article...im one of those people who wash their hair with shampoo and conditioner everytime they shower..so just about everyday..i should really try going a week without shampooing my hair..i would really hate to see the rats nest, and knots in it...but i bet it would be pretty...well written article..you really captured my attention.June 29th, 2008 at 09:55pm

Interesting article. I've researched this a while back as well. Most commerical shampoos contain Ammonium lauryl or laureth sulfates among other harsh ingredients that clean but significantly dry our hair out. Most of the time now, I wash my hair with conditioner, and use actual shampoo about once or twice a month. My hair has never been so moisturized...June 29th, 2008 at 09:36pm

"You failed to mention the fact that not all shampoo's contain the same ingredients and they don't all kill your hair. If your shampoo is damaging your hair chances are you're using a bad one."

SLS was an example of a harmful chemical in shampoo, but there are other harmful chemicals. Yes, some shampoos cause less damage to your hair, but the main reason behind this is because the conditioner they come with is better.June 29th, 2008 at 08:36pm -
I think people need to wash their hair with shampoo and conditioner, conditioner is created that way it'll soften your hair after you wash with shampoo... My hair is REALLY soft, people love it! I wash my hair every morning when I wake up, with both shampoo and conditioner... I understand what you did here, must've taken a long time, but I believe that people should still wash their hair and it's dirty not too...June 29th, 2008 at 08:10pm
Also dandruff is a fungus and is greaser and chunkier. Scalp/dry scalp everyone has. Remember you skin flakes off your entire body, your scalp is no exception. Tea tree oil is a better option for problem scalp.
