I don't think taking sex ed away will make teen pregnancy go down.
It'll just make those "can't get pregnant standing up/the first time/when she's on her period" rumors circulate and become more believable.
    Which will increase it.
Just you watch, the rates will go up and every single school worth its salt will put sex ed back on the curriculum.

You NEED Sex Ed in schools. In 5th grade, when I was first in Sex Ed class, I didn't even know what a period was because I was always confused when my mom explained it to me. And in high school (they're still teaching it here) i learned a lot of things about contraceptives, not just the pill. That class is important, in my opinion. They shou;dn't stop teaching it.

    Your completly right.
My class is probebly the only class in the entire school that hasnt had sex education. Last year, our immature and pathetic health teacher was to embarrased to teach us ANYTHING to do with the subject, so he'd force us to play dodgeball through-out the entire year.
This year our health teacher fell sick, so we get dumb substitudes that make us write pointless essays about FUCKING FOOTBALL MATCHES.

YES! Sex Ed is amazingly important! I don't even know why they would take it out of schools. Because teenagers don't know about Sex Ed, more and more teens are getting pregnant. My mother NEVER gave me a book on sex and my period. She sat my down and actually talked for 3 hours about everything. And I know it was 3 hours. I was watching that clock the whole frigging time.

I hate those notes that teachers send home asking the parents if it's okay to teach their child Sex Ed. Any parent that refuses is stupid. Health is/should just be Sex Ed, but with cleaner words.

It really pisses me off that they take Sex Ed out. Sex is a part of life. Sex has consequences and pleasures; things that you need to know! Don't wanna talk about it? Deal with it.

I guess our school district feels sex ed is extremely important, because they teach it in the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 10th grades. I do think it's extremely important to learn about sex (no matter how many kids thinks it's funny and laugh whenever they hear the word 'penis') and the things related to it. I mean, if parents aren't going to teach their kids about condoms, the pill, etc, I think the school has the right to step in and teach that material to their students.

Haha, this reminds me of when my mom gave me those little books, and was like, "my grandma just threw these at me when I was your age, here, you can have 'em." xDDD
Oh god. Well, those are pretty informative, and helpful, I guess. >__< If it helps anyone.

amazingly, I never got sex ed nor have I asked my parents about "the birds and the bees". I learned everything through books and online...and through practice. my parents would want me to stay single, and abstinent for the rest of my life but then again, they don't know I'm not a virgin.

as stupid and awkward Sex Ed seemed when i took it also, i agree fully with your article.
it's completely nesassary for tens to know their options, not knowing has a lot more consequences.

Haha. Ah, the fun we had in health class last year. (:

No but I totally agree, teens/kids should be taught these things, way to many young girls are getting pregnant these days.

we started learning what was going on with our bodies since i was in the 5th grade. girls and boys both got seperate talks. then trought out high school we talks about sex. i got taught sex ed by a hippie. she explained everything to us in great detail.
i feel that it is wrong that student are getting taught about sex in the 11th grade. they get pregnant before they even learn about it. they don't know about the diseases they can catch. they don't go away. they can get HIV which can turn into Aids and they will eventually die at such a young age.
i'm going into the 12th grade. in my class we get baby dolls that we have to take care of for a couple of days. the baby cries and we have to take care of it. it it gets hit or shaken we lose points off of our grade.
teens need to learn about this. my cousin is a teen mom and she has two beautiful boys but getting pregnant at 16 and then having her oldest at 17 ruined her life. i'm not trying to be mean and go against teen pregnancy. yeah it's wrong but there is a beautiful outcome.
we need to learn about this so generations don't get infected with diseases and they don't die from AIDS.
and teachers should not scare the shit out of students saying that sex is evil and that you'll die if you have sex. sex is a beautiful thing but teenages shouldn't be having sex without learning about it first.

Every school should teach sex ed, not just abstinence. I've seen way to many of many friends screw up their lives by getting pregnant.
You thought 9 girls was bad?...

In one year alone,my high school had over 100 girls pregnant. This was during my junior year.
    So yeah....

I'm almost 18 and still a virgin, which I think is pretty awesome.
