This is so sad, especially since it happened not even 20 minutes from where I live.

Oh okay. I agree though, the whole thing is horrifying :O

And now, just from like, all the postings online and stuff, I realize how many people live by me and I don't even realize it lol.

I just meant it was strange personally, i.e. driving through town at 8:30 then they find her body two hours later.

If I'm correct, three brothers live in the house altogether - ages 12, 15, and 17. The 12 year old had nothing to do with it.

I mean... killing a twelve year old girl? What's wrong with them? Did you say that there's another brother, too?

My teacher, whose brother-in-law is a chief of police that helped with the investigation, apparently it's true she really wasn't home. So that sort of rules her out. Then it still leaves me wondering where the third brother was, or anyone else, really.

Not only that, I'm still suspicious because a $10,000 reward was put out for any information on the case, which my teacher also said only happens when they have a small lead and basically want to use it to get more information. So this reward comes out and a few hours later she knows about the post.

I mean, it could be a coincidence, but then again...

I myself think they just wanted to steal the bike, and it got out of hand and she ended up dead. It's no excuse though. Luring a twelve year old over to steal her bike, with or without the intention or accidental death, it's still disgusting.

Exactly. Our town is so small, and now it's being destroyed because of what happened D:

Which part is strange to you though?

I only knew the one brother, not the other, but still :(

    @ Dying Rose
    Thank you <3

Now there's actually a petition going around online to have them tried as adults. I just signed it.

    @ Airi.
I agree, I just wish she could've been found alive :(

I know the one brother goes to a different school because, from my understanding, he acts up due to mental problems, though I don't know what kind. I know the other brother has a history of being bad as well, so he might have some problems, too.

I don't actually know how "popular" they were. In my town, everyone sort of knows everyone else, whether you're popular or not. Athletes are known better, though, because they usually have friends in other schools around the area.

That's why I just want the entire truth to come out, and I believe if they're tried as adults, it will.

    @ GoodGirl;
NJ doesn't have a death penalty, though sometimes I wish it did. Though I don't see them getting the chair for what happened, if it did have it.. :/

That's horrible what happened to Autumn, but I'm glad her parents were able to find her so soon. Many missing children are missing for months, leaving the parents tortured for god knows how long. They're lucky to have found their daughter so quickly, but it's horrible they weren't able to bring her back alive. I do hope those kids are punished to the full extent of the law for minors, but I also hope they undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Not to let them get off for the crime, but rather just to see if there are any underlying issues there and also to treat any of those issue. It seems strange that two supposedly popular kids (just basing that off the comments on this article) would kill a child over a bicycle so it makes me wonder if those boys are "all there in the head" as people say. The idea that they would kill a child over a bicycle when they had so much going for their lives is just puzzling and it makes me think there's a whole lot more to this story people don't know yet.

But it's a horrible thing that happened to Autumn regardless, I think everyone can agree with that.

This is all too saddening. What's worse is that depending on the state, these two may not be tried as adults. The 15 year old (being a minor) is most likely going to be sent to an detenion instution till 18 then transfered to prison. The 17 year old may or may not try him as an adult depending on how close he is to his birthday and whether the judge sees fit for him. If he's going to be seen as a minor (which he is) then it'll be detenion for a year and then prison the moment he's 18.

At the moment I'm studying Criminal Justice and I can't help but feel children are being victimized younger every year. As well as the attackers. A pair of brother 15 and 17, murdering a young girl over a simple bike is so demented.

Though I'm sad she died over a bike at such a young age, I'm glad that she wasn't sexually assualted. She could have ended much worse, like the other girl (Jessica Ridgway-whose killer was also 17 years old)

Without a doubt, I will surely be keeping this girl and her family in my thoughts and prayers.

I drive through Clayton (the town in which this happened) three times a week on my way to school. It really is a small town and the kind of place you wouldn't expect something like this to happen.

The timeline on this story was so strange, though, having experienced some of it first-hand. I was driving home from class on Monday night when nearly the entire town was gathered at the town municipal building for the candlelight vigil. That was around 9 p.m. Just an hour or so later they actually discovered her body. I drove through again on Tuesday morning around 8:30—only two hours or so before they announced they'd found her body and that she was dead.

I'm currently interning in the sports department of a local paper. Everyone there knew the two boys—they were well-known athletes in the town and some of my co-workers did stories on them quite a few times. You never really think something like this would ever affect you, even in the littlest of ways.

It's so tragic. I hope Autumn and her family and everyone affected by this somehow find peace.

I didn't mean to imply you were accusing her, I was just providing my own theory, thinking out loud, if you will. If Autumn was there all weekend and the boys were without supervision, then it is strange that the mom wouldn't be there.

Assuming she was killed the day she disappeared, i'm wondering if maybe the boys didn't plan on killing her. Like, maybe something happened and she threatened to tell and then they just panicked. But she died so brutally, it's hard to tell WHY they did what they did. I don't want to believe that this happened all because of a bike. Only logical explanation I can come up with is...they're just sick and they need help. (and jailtime, obviously.)

Can't imagine how her parents must feel. :(

I'm not accusing the mother of anything, I just want to know where she was when it was all happening.

Well the reason they put her in the recycling can was because trash night here is on Monday, trash comes around and is collected Tuesday morning. They thought they could get rid of the body by putting her in the bin and having the truck pick her up. No one would suspect it, but they were wrong.

She was missing since Saturday, and although they haven't released the official day she was killed, everyone's assuming it happened on Saturday. Either that, or they kept her kidnapped in that house the entire weekend before deciding to kill her and put her out like a piece of trash.

And she found out through Facebook because they were private messaging each other, Autumn and the youngest brother, and he told her to come over and he'd give her parts for her bike. While they never released the official message, that's what was the jist of it. He asked her to come over, and she accepted.

The mother could've been at work or something, so depending on how long it took for the boys to murder the little girl, it's possible they could've done it and disposed of her body without anybody finding out. I don't think their mother had anything to do with the murder. What disturbs me is that their mother found out by checking her son's facebook...what was he doing, making status updates about it? Bragging about it? I would hope not. The crime itself is bad enough. The fact that the perpetrators are just kids themselves makes it worse. I can't imagine why they would do something like that, other than the fact that there's obviously something wrong with them mentally.
