Very interesting article. I will say I do disagree on the bands just a tad bit.

But altogether, it was a very detailed, nice article :]

I agree. I don't think it'll die out. And honestly, I really hope it doesn't. Music is one thing kids use to get away from life for a few minutes. And unlike cutting or burning, or what ever else you want to substitute in, it's not destructive. I know I'd be physically lost without the words of my favorite bands. They calm me down when I'm upset, they hype my up when I need to be alert and energetic, and they've even "talked" me out of stupid decisions. I'd be really upset if my bands disappeared off the face of the earth because stupid judgmental people said they didn't want "emo" bands influencing the world in bad ways. Stop stereotyping.

pull your feelings off of your shoulders, pick your mouth up off of the floor, and shut up. i'm so tired of all of you whiners coming on here and posting articles that nobody cares about. okay, if you're so worried about people calling you 'emo', then why do you go back and call yourself that everywhere else? you must like it, or you wouldn't want attention to be called emo some more. the emo label WILL eventually die out, even though you say it won't. there's more normal people in this world than there are you pathetic emos, believe it or not.
thanks for reading and have a great day.

Never once have I heard Green Day be labeled as 'emo' until I read this. They're a well known punk band that has been around for years. In the earlier years of Green Day 'emo' wasn't even a popular label, and was never applied to the band. They have always been known as punk, just like Blink 182, they were both around the same era, and were both considered punk bands.

I think emo really means emotive when referring to music. Listen to Senses Fail's lyrics to Lost and Found. "Now I'm lost at sea. I'm drowning in what I won't be. I'm haunted by the sound. the sweet sound of my last breath."
To me, that's emo because it shows angst and sadness. And personally, I think MCR is emo, but that doesn't make them bad.
And since when has being an emo band become a bad thing?

#1. BMTH are NOT emo. They're thrash/screamo.
#2. Almost all bands are emo - ALL lyrics are emotive. They were written upon SOME kind of emotion.

Apart from that, though, I think the article was very well-written and it clearly got your point across. I agree with quite a lot of it. Well done. :)

Emo is just another stupid label.
Its almost th new prep.
But we cant stop labels so why try?
And yeah,MCR isn't emo.
You can twist almost any song into an emo song and almost any band into an emo band.

emo is just a stupid stereotype, just like prep, jock, nerd, geek, and the other hundreds that are tossed in there. suck it up and be yourself, who gives a crap if someone tells you your emo? I think you'd know wheither you were or not, right?

Glad to see that someone has the actual balls to put something like this on mibba for once.. =I

Seriously...Emo means "Emotional" and if music wasn't emotional then...why would people my age (14) even listen to music? =I

she's got a point actually i mean listen to "Heaven Help Us" It has some suggestive lyrics actually [i'm going to get flamed -.-] Seriously any God-Freak would go nuts over this song. Its just some song telling how Gerard is dealing with his demons...and he needs God supposedly to help him...

Gerard has even said in an interview somewhere "What-else-you-got-emo?" I mean seriously that even tells you that he himself isn't emo nor does he want to be associated with emo..

Any band that you hear...prolly has lyrics that aren't kid friendly who gives a crap i mean.. jesus quit crying over spilt milk and get on with your lives.

"MCR IS NOT EMO!! MEH MEHHHHAFPIEWAFEWHF"

Good lord, stop crying and get over it. Did you even read the article? The point was that anything could be considered "emo" if it has emotional or emotive lyrics, and My Chemical Romance definitely has some emotional lyrics thrown in here and there.

All the bands mentioned aren't emo.
If you want real emo bands, listen to:

The Rites Of Spring
Jawbreaker
Portraits Of Past
Rain
Texas Is The Reason
Embrace
The Promise Ring
Evergreen

Yup.

"Some people believe that emo music is ruining our youth but in reality music has little to do with it. The children of today are so very fragile and easy to manipulate ..."

I agree. It's stupid that people think music is ruining us. And it's sad how easily our generation is controlled by these idiodic things.

Emo? Prep? Punk? I understand labeling the music, but really, why label people? Other than to help describe someone, it's geerally hurtful and stupid.

i guess you either love or hate emos... no middle ground? owch. the fence is really uncomfortable.

everyone seems to have a different idea of what emo is.
i don't really agree or disagree with the article, but i think it's well written.
