Oh I respect what others like. I may have phrased that wrong. I don't have a problem what people like. It's just the attitude people have towards what other people like. Pretty much everything you are saying, basically.

I don't get how you can tell someone their 'tastes' suck in something. Because... it's theirs. You can say that you, yourself, don't like it but not that people have bad tastes in music. It's personal preference. And I do believe that music has the power to save a persons life. I've never personally experienced it, but I believe it. Music can do so much.

I don't have anything against any genre. I just lean more towards rock music, and I shy away from country because it just isn't my thing. And if people like it then they do, it isn't my problem unless they are telling me how stupid I am for not liking it. Facepalm

omfg THIS. I agree with you COMPLETELY. People always tell me how much my music tastes suck. One time, I got upset over MCR's break up and this guy was all, "If I had a nickel for every person that said music saved their life, I'd be rich". I was like, wtf? Music has the power to help people with things that you wouldn't even imagine. It's even proven to help reduce depression in people who are diagnosed with it.

For me, music stimulates my brain. If my anxiety is really high or I just feel dead, all I have to do is listen to music and I feel better. I hate when people say those things because they don't understand the power that music can have. If it wasn't for music, I wouldn't be here right now. Music has kept me from losing my mind.

I don't have any problem with what people like, so long as they aren't assholes about it. I've meet a few people who like Bieber and 1D and some of them are very rude. It's okay for them to cut for their favorite people, but when it's us, it's like we're doing it for attention. It's like the MCR break up, some of them were so rude about it and made fun of us for it.

I have nothing against kpop either. I love j-rock. I used to listen to it all the time. I listen to american/canadian bands now, and I love them because I've been a fan of Simple Plan since 2004. I've loved them for the longest time, same with MCR, fall out boy, green day and more.

Oh wow, you've got to write a whole essay on it? You go!

Ah, so that's why he said it. Kinda like, "if you don't like it, don't f---ing read it" things that some people tag their opinions/stories/pieces with? Think Well, in a way it kind of makes sense, just the not everyone would like it, but... not everyone SHOULD have to like it, if that makes sense.

Yup, it basically idolises certain people because they think they know more than us. I've got to write an essay on that quote for essay. I'm going to rip it to shreds because the quote is complete bullshit.

I tend to go for really dumb answers but that's probably one of my finer sentences. tehe

It makes for a great argument with a lecturer too. The thing about Schoenberg was that he created serialism and no one likes serialism (okay, well some people do) so he was applying it to his own music, or it seems like he was. He was creating a way to quantify his music to the people that didn't like it by saying that it was art, so not everyone would like it.

'Art isn't for all and if it is for all it isn't art.' Snob Pff. Wow, only people with high cultural standing, huh? What bologna. If I want to listen to people banging on trash lids and tell people how it saved me, I will. Hand

We all have personal preferences and there isn't really any psychobabble that you can apply to opinion. This right there, I just suck at articulating anything fancy, so I just say it all smart-ass like. Coffee

Pff, I don't mind I think it's interesting hearing your thoughts and was pretty neat hearing the whole thing bout Schoenberg.

We were talking about this in one of my university modules this morning. It's apparently to do with people that have a higher cultural standing than we do saying what is 'good' and what is 'bad'. For instance, Schoenberg (who was an arse anyway) once said that art isn't for all and if it is for all it isn't art (or something to that effect), essentially saying that only people of a high cultural standing understand what proper music is. We are shaped by the society we live in and the higher powers say what is proper music and what isn't.

My opinion? It's a pile of complete psychological bullshit. People like what they like. As a musician myself, I consider all kinds of music 'real' music. Justin Beiber (as much as it pains me to say) is real music just as much as Eminem, Metallica, Super Junior, Arashi or any other kind of musician expressing themselves in their own way. We all have personal preferences and there isn't really any psychobabble that you can apply to opinion.

(sorry for the essay, I like talking about things I actually know about. tehe)

"cute for an asian." I hear stuff like that all the time. Like... I don't even. I can see how that would be irritating, them talking about the music but not the war. This is why I just don't watch the news.
