Now everyone has thought at some point, that school was just too much of a load on their backs. Some have gone to the point of saying that they don't want to go anymore.

But did you really mean it?

I've always wanted to drop out of school--it started when I was eleven--but then I thought about the kind of places that would actually hire a high school-drop out and came up with none.
But then there's always prostitution, but selling my body never really struck a fancy with me. :file:

Would you ever consider dropping out of school?
Have you already? How's it working out for you? How did you do it?

I've definitley considered it. But unfortunatley I'll never be able to, because I'm only legally allowed when my last year is over anway.

I didn't drop out of high school, but I just wanted to point out that not all people who do drop out just go on to be nothing, or go straight into a crappy job.

A lot of people I knew in high school who dropped out at 15 or 16 went on to do apprenticeships or go to TAFE (linked to wiki for those who don't know what it is) to get a certificate in something.

But there are those who just drop out 'cause they hate school, or for other reasons like perhaps pregnancy or family issues etc.

    I dropped out.
Not a good thing at all, trust me.
You'd think your life would get easier without going to school, try getting a job.
    It's not that easy!

I just stopped going to school, or just went until the lunch period, then skipped the rest of the day. Sad thing was, I was never the only one.
Eventually, my mother gave up on me and just let me drop out.

The next school year I transfered to Graphic Design at an art school.
But I had to pay for the whole grade, because that was the only way.

Anyway, I lost 3 years at my old school, and it was kind of hard starting to go to classes again, since I got used to all the skipping, just the final exams now, and every thing's gonna be good. :)

I think dropping out is the dumbest thing ever. No offense to anyone or anything. It does work for some people, but for all the people I know who dropped out it didnt.
Ive never wanted to do it though. I like school, even though I suck at it.

Sorry. We're doing Grease for our spring musical, and I can't get the music out of my head. Whistle
I'd never drop out. I like school, and my parents would never let me. Plus, I'd have like no friends if I didn't go. :XD

I dropped out last year, but went back this year, so I missed a year of school. I didn't have a job, or anything. All I did was draw and sleep, really. I was really lazy, but that time period was probably the best period of time in my life. I don't regret doing it, because I'm so happy the way I am now, and a lot of my current "situations" wouldn't exist if I hadn't dropped out. I wouldn't have met a lot of the great people that I am now blessed to know.

I had planned to never go back to school, but my dad was really annoying...

I dropped out by just not going to school. I went to art class and choir, and skipped my other six periods. Eventually the school dropped all of my classes, of its own accord, and tried to put me into twilight school. I didn't go to that, either.

Anyway, that's a rushed version of my story. :shifty :XD

I've been balancing on the edge of it since September, but I know that no one will hire me if I drop out. I like the security of school, and the fact that I have my friends around me. Even though I feel like I don't belong there, I'm going to stick it out.

I'm doing it to myself because I want to go to University and study Psychology. I don't want to be stuck in a low-paid dead end job for the rest of my life. I'm goin' to Uni =D

I've thought from time to time of dropping out but I'd never actually do it. It just sounds really stupid to be to become a high school drop out.
Plus, with the law I can't drop out until I'm nearly done with school. So why not just finish the school years?

I considered it for a while and my grandma almost...well, it wasn't pretty. I've wanted to be a doctor for my whole life and, I'm not going to lie, I definitely have the grades for something like that. I don't know why I did, I still think about it now sometimes.

I don't think I ever actually would though.

I've been considering dropping out of uni recently because I seem to be up to my eyeballs in debt but dropping out won't help at all.

I'm trying to get a better life for myself and I'm getting screwed over financially. When I finally graduate in seven years time, I'll be about £17,000 in debt. :omfg:

If I was sixteen, I'd drop out in a heartbeat.
Except my parents said they would disown me.
I despise school with everything I have - I don't have the passion for it and my grades are slipping and... I just hate being around people. :x
Dropping out just seems like such a great, irresponsible... nice way to get some sleep. :tehe:

I've never really considered dropping out.
Even though I don't have my future planned out, I figured it'd be useful having my highschool certificate and a uni degree under my belt.
Besides, I have no idea what I'd want to do other than school/uni.

I'm not in school right now, and haven't been since November. I'm getting my GED. I don't think that's really considered dropping out, because I'll still be doing some schoolwork and going to a community college for a few years, but I won't be graduating from high school. I've had problems with bad social anxiety since middle school, and got much worse once I entered high school. Because of that, I almost full on dropped out, but I wanted to go to college so bad. But because I'm so behind, a GED is my only hope of actually getting into the community college, and they have great classes there. I really want to finish high school, but it's really not an option for me anymore, unfortunately, and I wish social anxiety wasn't much of a hinderance, but it is. If I could go back my freshman year and do things all over again, I would, but I can't.

My school was trying to force me out during my senior year. My grades had slipped and they were "seriously concerned" about all
of the people who's grades had slipped to C's and under. They put extra pressure on those students and I remember the guidance
counsellor pulling me out of classes numerous times to have a "talk". The talk consisted of them telling me that, no matter what I did,
I was "never going to get anywhere in life."

So yeah, I seriously considered dropping out.

I didn't however, because my parents were quite supportive and urged me to graduate.

It was an option that I was thinking about for this year but I was overruled. The best choice was made by my parents, my sister, my friends. Stay in school. It's annoying how much I wish I didn't have to, though.

I've never seen a point in dropping out of school. I mean, very few people enjoy school, but dropping out because you don't like it seems like a waste. You're so close to finishing high school by the point you can drop out, what's the point of not just finishing those couple of years? It's a pain in the ass, yeah, but it's worth it in the end.

I'm going back to school next academic year. It's not that I'm particularly academic (obv. not), but I need something to occupy my mind and, on a personal level, I need to invest my self-esteem in something tangible. But I'm not as floaty as some.

You're better off being qualified in something you enjoy, want to do...

Although, it depends on the person. But I have more self-esteem knowing that I'm doing something with my life. I don't care for well-paid jobs and all that, but I quite like school and the idea of it.

There are different sorts of qualifications and styles of education. Find one that suits you, prestige is less important than enjoyment. I'd go with doing something, though, if I were you... as you said, high school drop-out isn't the best thing to be. But it works for some people. Just for me, I don't like being unemployed, on the dole and bored shitless.

    I got kicked out.

I got taken out of school for half of year eleven because I never turned up and because of depression/eating disorders, and I've been kicked out of the college up here about three weeks after I started there :/ .
I was going to drop out of college anyway though, purely because I hate it up here, so that was a weird kind of relief, but I'm going to a different one in a different part of the country in September because it's even more depressing doing fuck all and knowing that you don't stand a chance. Pretty much, anyway.
