I'm surprised this thread isn't more abuzz, considering the finale is upon us. How's everyone enjoying the new series/the new Doctor?
Capaldi is outstanding. When they had that whole huge event thing (was it back end of last year or earlier this year? Can't believe I can't remember) they had a whole shebang about it and then the big reveal felt kind of... anti-climactic. I felt a bit flat, thinking I'd be either angry or excited. But I was reserved anyway - I hated the choice of Matt way back when but fell in love with eleven instantly and he's now MY Doctor (despite starting at Ten).
But I love Capaldi. I love the crotchety old man, his put-downs of Clara. He's like a grumpy, forgetful, genius old grandfather. He's very funny but very calculating. He screams last of his kind. His outfit is very clean-cut and modern, a world away from Matt's outfit and I like it. I think he's phenomenal in his acting, and Moffat has written us a fantastically new type of character. I love how different he is from the previous three (four?) Doctors, yet with a smattering of each of them still twinkling in his personality.
The new series is quintessentially Moffat, but I love that there seems to be less going on in terms of sub-plot. The last few seasons had so much going on, which made for an epic finale but confused the plots somewhat in the first viewing. This series seems to flow better, with one subplot interweaving through all the episodes. They seem cleaner, more refined, like Moffat's found his footing and knows exactly where he's taking the series without too much of everything going on all at once. It's like there's more collaboration between all of the writers. I'm thoroughly enjoying it and am quite sad that Saturday will be the end for a while.

I agree with you on the Clara thing. She was fun for a while and I love the thing with Danny, and the Impossible Girl idea was excellently done. But now it's getting too much, it's too emotional now. She's too to-and-fro for me, one day wanting to give it up and then the next going straight back. She's just a bubbly teacher who talks too fast and has a boyfriend and a nan - there doesn't seem to me much more to her than that. I love Jenna - I think she's brilliant and gorgeous - but I dunno, maybe it's time for someone else? Maybe I just loved the Ponds too much...
I hope they do Heaven well. I'm not a huge Cybermen fan, because they crop up so often (I'm the same with the Daleks - give them a break and I'll love them again, so glad they've been left alone for a series) but if they're there for a reason and the story is good, I'm not gonna get butt-hurt over it. They're a popular monster, I'll deal. I hope it's a nail biter - I'll be avoiding Twitter the whole episode (I can't watch it Live, I don't own a TV and have to use iPlayer 'cause I'm a student).
Also, now we know the Doctor could be a woman! I'm glad for the clarification - I always was on the fence about it, thinking it would only be good if there was a good reason. But yay! I hope, when the time comes, she's smokin' hot...
Wow, sorry for the essay.
