I'm guessing a lot of people on this website would love to be able to write books for a living... I know I would.

Is anyone here already published, or planning to become a published author anytime soon?
There are some great writers on this website :D

I self-published a book recently. The link is in my signature :D
It's an awesome feeling knowing that your writing is in print and it's tangible. Especially now since anybody can read it whenever they want to.
Albeit, the majority of buyers is made up of my friends from school, but it's a start, haha.
Plus I think my dad might be able to strike a deal with the local Barnes and Noble in my town to set up a place where I can sell them.

I would love to publish some stuff, but I don't think I will until I'm older. Like... retirement age. :XD

Gosh, I would throw a surprise party for myself if I could publish books! :XD I don't think I have that much experience though, so if that does happen, and I hope it does, I'd hope for it to be when I'm at least a legal adult. :tehe:

I would love to publish books, and be a real author.
I don't think I would do it, I'm not quite professional writer material - but it's good to imagine what it would be like.

Book signings are always something I'd love to do. :tehe:

I would want to. Almost everyone I know in real life wants me to become a writer someday.
I just don't think I qualify as a real or professional author.
But I'm still young so maybe I would be able to work it out. Then if I ever become a lot better than I am right now, I might publish something upon reaching the legal adult age.

I've been writing since I was 7/8 and it's not jsut the creative stuff, but news articles and reviews, I think the only thing I haven't done as of yet is poetry, but I just found like my dream degree and I think I'm going to go for it :tehe:

that would be my dream come true, no joke! I'm currently working on rewriting one of my stories a little different but then I plan to get it published. Where or how, I haven't figured that out yet- however, Borders does something, so you could go around on their website online and everything, and something should come around about publishing your own works.

I'd love to be a published writer one day, I think with some hard work and determination to get out there - almost anyone could be a writer.

I'd love to write books (and scripts) for a living.
I'm not good enough yet, but I bet there's very few 17-year-olds that are.

I'd love to just make money from doing something I love. My only problem is that I get bored easily and I don't have the patience to write a novel, so I don't think I'll ever do it.

But I am hopefully going to do a creative writing degree at university, providing I get the grades to secure my place. And I'm going to see where that takes me. But at every open day I've been to, the lecturers have told us not to think we're going to come out as the next best selling writer, so we don't get our hopes up and then shattered at the reality of it all.

A lot of writers have other jobs as well in a similar field. I know one of my English teachers at college has written a couple of books, but she uses a different name for it. So it is possible to write whilst doing something else.

^Most authors do have another job because the money they get from their boks just isn't enough to live on.
You have to be really popular to live off of it.
Like J.K Rowling, Darren Shan, Stephen King etc.

    It's what I'm working towards. :D
Technically, we're all authors on this site. Being an author is someone who writes novels and stories and the like.
We're just not published authors :D

I've already found an agency that will look at first time novelists, and I've finished the novel that I'm planning on sending into them, but at the moment, I'm just too nervous to send it in.

I've had the query letter for them written for months now and I just can't bring myself to send it in. :D

I don t see the point in publishing anymore, all it does is make publishers and literary agents rich while killing trees.

The Internet is all we need anymore to reach people. Everyone should just publish online where other people can read for free, like we re all doing.

You shouldn t write to make a profit, you should do it because you generally want people to read what you ve written.

Its not about the money for me though. I want to be published because its a dream of mine to see my own story in binding with my name on the cover of a book. I want to be in a bookstore and happen upon something with my own name on it. It would be a dream come true for me.

I could care less if I ever make money off of it.

It would be nice if I could make a career out of it, but that's not the only goal. It's not even really the most important goal.

Having my stuff published gets me all giddy inside. I've had a few things published, like short stories and articles. It's one of my goals in life to get at least one book published.

It would be so exciting. But I wouldn't make it my goal just to become an author. I'd have to do something else and then be an author on the side. But still. It would be a dream come true for me.
