Just remember everyone... 99% of all manuscripts given to the publishers are rejected... There are rarely any good reasons... It's usually about not enough money/time to review them, or the publisher themself is very subjective about something in your story =)
Just found this stuff out myself, and wanted to share it to all the aspiring authors...

^ meh. Who cares? You know Harry Potter was turned down by a bunch of publishers? What's with the self-doubts, people? If you want to do it, do it! Try your hardest, tell yourself you can, and don't give up!

My dream is to be an author. And I'm going to try my hardest.

When I was in first, second, and third grade, there was this thing called Young Author's Conference. The students would write stories, teachers would pick out about three per class, and they'd get sent in a published. I wrote one and got one published each year. I still have all the copies though... It's not retail or anything... They're little kid stuff... really... But I can still say I'm a published author!

I saw a quote somewhere that was encouraging.
    It was something like this:
"They all seem to want the next Harry Potter, but no one wanted the first Harry Potter until J.K ROwling thought of him."

EDIT: I found the exact quote. It was Phillip Pullman that said it:
‘I don’t believe that it’s the writer’s job to respond to some vague idea about what readers want. Readers don’t know what they want until they see what you can offer. Nowadays, we’re told, they’re all asking for the next Harry Potter, but no-one ever asked for the first Harry Potter. It took JK Rowling to think of him before people realised that this was something they might like to read. The writer and the idea always come first, and are always the most important thing.'

I'm working on a book which I'm going to self publish as soon as possible
i have a plan, and then I'm gonig to do my writing degree while working on the potential sequel and prequel to it, as well as tying up some works I've been playing with for years

After the wake up call yesterday, I know I want to do this and, conceited as it sounds, I know I can do it if I pull my finger out

    ^ That's the spirit.

It annoys me when people think it's as easy as sticking a few words on paper and sending it to a publisher.

You stick a couple hundred thousand words on paper (e-paper usually), send it off to the publishers... Wait 3-6 months, send it to another publisher... Wait another 3-6 Months... When you get feedback, your work on your story more to flush it out... Get some stuff bound through your own pocket... Continue working on getting your feedback (with pre-postaged envelopes are to be sent with each copy of your story). Just keep it up and you'll eventually catch someone's eye. It takes a long time to get your name out there, but once you do usually that company puts your name as a "take to top of the list" which means they review your stuff before the nobodies, which you were not even a year before! =D

I used to work with a published author, it's a hard career and you usually need to work a second job for the first 10-15 years.. But it pays off to do something you love.

I'd love to be a published author.
Of course with my family it would be the last option for a job I could ever have, but yes it would be amazing to be published, of course, my stuff it not up to publishing standards yet, I still must improve, but really just determination and believing, it could possibly happen. (:

You're young, writing is something that can be done in your free time... Practice will make perfect, and you just need enough for postage (for it getting there, and getting back) and you'll be published eventually =) Just keep on the positive, know that denial isn't the end of the world, and you'll be published.

I would love to have some of my stuff published but i've been told that they'd be a bit to inapropriate for people. but either way, i'd love to get some of my work published.

I'd love to be a published author, and who knows, maybe one day I will. But for now, I have a long way to go.

It's a really big dream of mine. Just seeing my name on a book cover that I wrote and worked so hard on would be such a great achievment. I would finally feel like I accomplished something and that I'm proud of what I did.

But I'm only 13 and I know that my dream is anywhere but near. I know that isn't going to happen though. But isn't that what dreams are for? Maybe it could come true, one day.

I would adore to have something published, and after deep consideration of a lot of career choices, writing is the only one I've actually fely excited about. I swear creativity is in my bones.
However, I would like it to be a sideline project. What I want to focus on most is eventually becoming a screenplay writer.

A would sure like to follow Stephen Chbosky's life path, if I'm honest. :tehe:

I would love to be an author, but I know publishing rates are low, so I'm not focusing on it a great deal.

    Evil Conical Tombs:
I don t see the point in publishing anymore, all it does is make publishers and literary agents rich while killing trees.

The Internet is all we need anymore to reach people. Everyone should just publish online where other people can read for free, like we re all doing.

You shouldn t write to make a profit, you should do it because you generally want people to read what you ve written.
The joker once said something that is very true.

If you're good at something, never do it for free.

And anyways, I think it would be really awesome to get published. I'm currently working on a story.

Acting is my major dream in life, however.

I'd probably do both if I could.

I would like to become a published author. I am working on something but I've been told [mostly by mom] that being an author is not all that great and I may not make if I try.

I do know that if I were to ever get work published I probably won't become as famous as J.K. Rowling but I do need something that will pay the bills. I just don't know what else I want to do with my life.

I would love to get books published, whether they're novels or graphic novels. I want to see my stuff in the shelves of my favorite book stores some day ^_^

I'd love, love, love to have just one book published.

My teacher commented on one of my stories, saying it was 'publishing standard'.
