I started writing something when I was sixteen and I'm in the final processes of completing it.

Now I'm looking for publishers online.

Being an author is all I want to do and I really hope I can get somewhere with it.

I think, at least for me, that if you're on this site as an author, you're probably pretty into writing.

Personally, I would love to become an author. My parents have a video of me at four years old saying that when I grow up, I'm going to be an author. No joke. And that goals never really changed.

I'm thirteen now, and while I've been told I'm very talented, what publishing company would sign a thirteen year old? I do, however, plan on self publishing. That'd be cool.

Being an author, a successful one, is a dream job.
You just have to really work for it, but I guess that's why they call it dreams.
I haven't written anything worth publishing but I plan to someday.

    Evil Conical Tombs:
I don t see the point in publishing anymore, all it does is make publishers and literary agents rich while killing trees.

The Internet is all we need anymore to reach people. Everyone should just publish online where other people can read for free, like we re all doing.

You shouldn t write to make a profit, you should do it because you generally want people to read what you ve written.
But then you couldn't make a career out of it.
Why shouldn't someone be allowed to make a career out of something they love doing?
The amount of paper they use to make films/TV is quite ridiculous, as well as all the electricity they use, then all the electricity used to by people watching watching them, then by people online talking about it.
    Should we cancel TV too?

I'm waiting till I've at least graduated high school before attempting to get anything published. Besides, I'm more of a short-story author as of now. I have ideas for novels, but they need extensive research.

But writing is my dream career. I want people to read my books.

I publish books sometimes for my younger friends. It's not all that great, but I get paid from 20-30$ a book. I guess it could be considered being an author, but I guess it's more like a publisher. I write though, too. Obviously, that's why I am here.

I've always wanted to be an author. It's my dream job.
I do plan on publishing some books and such when I'm older. But for now I'm still learning and getting better with my writing.

I actually hope that I'll be able to publish nonfiction after I finish university and the afferent studies. Articles and such firstly, but books too- literary history, cultural studies, that kind of thing. I have very little faith in myself as a fiction writer and only through some extraordinary event I could end up writing a novel.

I want to go to university to study English and Journalism, and become a freelance journalist.
And I would also love to really work hard at writing a fiction book and maybe getting it published someday.

I have a lot to learn before I could even think about sending my stuff to a publisher. It'd be nice to tell people that I published a popular book.

I was actually talking to my mum today, and she was talking to me about publishing some of my short stories in magazines, and how they'd pay me for it and such.
I think she's actually going to look into some of that sort of thing for me.
    Hello professional writing career!

If things don't work out in theater, which, they probably won't, I'll move on to being an author. I really hope that even if I'm in theater I can publish a few things. I've already gotten like ten books written. Not fanfiction.

I've actually started writing my own Vampire series *Waits for the laughter and the judging*
But no it isn't like Twilight or Dracula or anything it's like a proper dark Vampire vs Vampire series which won't have any Vampire and mortals fall in love cliche I've planned out my Vampire clans and mortal characters and everything (I just don't have a title yet)
My mum is all for it and thinks the idea is great
And I'm going to take a creative writing course when I start college.

Once I finish my Graphic Design course in two years I'll be going for an Undergrad in Literature Arts so publishing companies will look at me more directly.
I have had some companies looking at my work, but I was never able to hit the deadlines due to personal reasons or the story running into a dud...

The easiest thing to do is to go out and buy ten bound copies (also called self publishing). Sell all but your first one (you obviously want to keep that one) around town. After you sell those, buy another ten and sell all but one... Take that last one and go to the locally owned book store (not a franchise, they can't do anything about it) and ask if they could sell your book there for half of the profit (suddenly you are making less per book, but you are still getting more people seeing it). Continue selling your copies by hand, sell it online as well.

After awhile, possibly your third book, present your copy and a new story's synopsis to a real publishing company, have it one in town to start and your name will quickly grow from there (if you are any good of an author).

I have bound a bunch of crappy books before... I'm planning on my newest story to be bound if I can't get the publishers to look at it.
