    Peep Show!
Now there is a brilliant British TV series which would just not work in America.
I mean, maybe I'm making too big of a generalisation here, so feel free to correct me, but I just don't think the majority of Americans would like or get it. I think it's probably the humour more than anything.

That said, American humour tends to be the stuff that you laugh out loud to. The really obvious stuff. And British humour is a bit weird, but I like it better.

Britain can do dry, sarcastic humour like no other nation can.

^ Most British (god I despise that word) humour is very idosyncratic.

Although, I do wonder how Americans would react to Rab C. Nesbitt, considering the courseness of language, the violence, the overt drinking, the poverty and all the weird storylines.

Mind you, I wonder the same thing about English people and Rab C. Nesbitt. :XD

I love Rab C.Nesbitt haha, I couldn't understand a lot of what they were saying when I was a kid though.
You can get his type of people anywhere, especially in East London.

^ for non-Scottish people, I think it just takes a bit of getting used to it, then it's all good.

But sometimes, I can't understand him. :XD

But I don't know, it'd be a good experiment to find out.

Although I do see on YouTube video comments that some Americans love British humour.

Mwhahahahaha. We're just to ironic/dark for those guys. :tehe: They'd hate Frankie Boyle.

I also wish everyone would stop getting shocked everytime I say I don't like tea.
    So what I'm English?
Doesn't mean I have to like it.

I would probably be killed for saying this, but I don't like a lot of "Scottish" comedy, like Still Game, Chewin' The Fat and Rab C Nesbitt...I just don't think it's funny or clever.

However, I ADORE British/English comedy like A Bit of Fry and Laurie, QI, Mock the Week, Have I Got News For You etc.

    Any particular reason why?

    Do you find them condescending?

Yeah, a bit, it's basically all the things I don't like about Glasgow presented on screen. I don't see how it's funny. All my family love it, but I just don't get the appeal. I mean, you could probably hear a more amusing version of that script in any number of pubs around here. I think that might be why people likeit, but it's not my thing. No

    Ahh.

I personally don't see any difference from that sort of comedy (If it's funny but the whole ned thing is just done to death, gawd!) to the likes of Skins and Shameless.

I despise Skins and all that teenage-aimed junk as I feel it condescending to my sense of being a teenager as it portrays us as a bunch of lunatics and I can't stand it as it is the opposite to how I see myself.

I find a similiar situation with The Big Bang Theory and my overt geekiness.

But I can see your point. Some of it is just insulting but I love Still Game mainly because it's like a more jumped up version of Last of the Summer's Wine.

And they had Sylvester McCoy in it which is always a plus. I'll watch anything with him in it.

    ^ I get that too.

It's just like...why are they doing that? That's not fun. That's just annoying and/or illegal.

    But anyway...

What do you think of being termed 'British'?
Do you prefer English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish?
Do you think British is sometimes used as a synonym for English?

    Discuss.

We wouldn't go to a Frenchman and repeatedly call him Eurpoean and say your from Europe would we?
Scotland have their own government now, as do Ireland, I hate the term British because we are separate.
