The thing that bothers me the most is stereotypical "clique" characters, like girls and guys that are "prep" or "jock" have to automatically be bitches or assholes and "scene" kids that are always picked on or depressed.

Characters that are not historically accurate.... like...
band boys in fan fiction.... they lived in the nineties
before skinny jeans and american apparel hoodies.

Girls who get back with a guy after he cheats on her.
that best friend who is loving but a bitch to everyone
who she doesn't like. The bitchy cheerleader. the girl
with the horrible past that only some band guy can
help her overcome. Seriously, make a character who
wasn't raped, abandoned, abused, assaulted, etc at
    a young age.

When you click that characters box and all the girls
look like hanna beth or someone you found when you
typed scene girl into google. Just because they are a
celeb's sister doesn't mean they have to look like they
are some suicide girl or whatever... I want to see
someone using a disney girl as the face they see for
their character for once... And someone the right age,
please... Jac Vanek is not fourteen, thank you very much.

Characters that do not act their age; I mean, yeah, surely sometimes we are all immature and like to joke around or act like little children, but being like that all the time is just unrealistic (and rather annoying to tell the truth).

Yeah, that bugs the shit out of me, too.
Like. Back when I used to read a lot of MCR stories, Frank was always hyper, went through 3409 bags of Skittles a day and bleeh. Lol.

characters who are emo children. now if they have a self mutilating problem, thats fine with me. but dont go on saying how the person cuts themselves every sentence. recently i read a story where a character did have a cutting problem. the autor portrayed it well. she used great description and background knowledge. rather then another story i read where the characters all group cut and were happy. like wtf.

What do you mean band boys? Do you mean when members of bands now were teenagers?

Characters that I can't believe in.
I mean, I'm the sort who wants to take a character home with me ahah.
That's what makes a good character, to me; when I can imagine them as if they were a close friend or whatever.
And I hate it when the character just stays as words on a page.
It seems like a waste to me.

I can't stand it when an author clearly wants you to identify with a certain character and I can't do it. It's usually poor development or writing on the author's part.
Also, poorly developed characters in general. File

You know.. Bella Swan is a mary-sue in a way. Hey?
She moves and then all guys like her, even the vampire guy that everyone wants but he doesn't date until she comes around.
She smells a lot more yummy than any of the other humans..
And he can't read her mind.. blah blah.
But.. shes clumsy, because she has to have at least one flaw.

    That's what annoys me.
A girl that all guys like.

I hate characters that are predictable. The ones that you know what is going to happen even if they've never came up against that situation before, because they are so one sided.
I also hate characters that are stupid. Like, if a vampire is chasing me or whatever I'm not going to stand and let them bite me. Un-Originality is a major annoyance. I also hate it when the same author uses the same type of character over and over and over, like they have no imagination or something.

I hate when if a girl does something everyone is sympathetic to them but when the guys does something, less bad then the girl, everyone hates him! It's like 'wtf?'

And where the character gets hits for the very first time and they always, ALWAYS have a big, 'look at me' bruise on their face which in turn they just have to cover with foundation and then the boy they love finds out and is like 'I'll never let anyone hurt you' Bleh! I mean, hello! One hit is not abuse. That is what I call discipline. Where a parent can smack a child, whether the child be 1 or 18 and it's not classed as abuse! And come on, not every hit leaves a bruise. A mark maybe, but not a bruise.

I may be a tad guilty about some of my characters, which I never intended to do. Also with the smoking/drinking/rebelling thing. Come on! I have someone in my family who is all of them things plus more. *coughsistercough* But she gets in trouble for rebelling, she has to hide smoking from just my dad and with the drinking both my parents flip. So why doesn't the characters on here get in trouble?

i hate the bimbo-barbie, prep stereotypes.
i know there has to be that bitch in the story that makes the heroine even more appealing, but hey, can't they make the "Queen Bee" a little more realistic?
Being bitchy because maybe she has had some kind of trauma. Not because she just wants to.

I'm really beginning to dislike the quirky, angsty, "interesting" girl who listens to ~indie~ music and wears black and reads Kurt Vonnegut and Slyvia Plath and is ~soooooo deep, man~. And a male protagonist is just oh so in love with her for no other than that she's pretty and interesting.

Really, angtsy characters in general annoy me. Like, I get it. Life sucks. Can you talk about something else please or do I need to force feed you some Prozac?

I hate the female characters that every single guy thinks is beautiful and gorgeous, but still think they're ugly or are completely oblivious to it all. Oh my God. Just take a fucking compliment. I mean, it's so goddamn over-used.

^ Yeah I think she's just saying that people are making too many characters that are interested in those things just so they'll seem "emo", "different", "quirky", "unique" ,or -I don't know- more sophisticated or cleverer somehow.
I mean if your character does happen to like those things [or if you do! :) ] ok. That's cool, but when people use things as a gimmick or a way to escape better description or original ideas or something then it's a bit irritating.

I know. tehe But it's annoying when authors use that same character over and over again and then try to force feed you the fact that this character is soooo different.

Another thing I hate is wimpy male characters. They can be just as shallow as female ones.
