Living in the Past

Sam sighed as he started to drive. "Well you're my partner - and we wouldn't go in separately, so he's just going to have to deal with that." He said softly and held her hand tightly. "No one should make you feel like that baby." He said.

Emma smiled lightly as she felt his hand and she kissed his cheek lightly. "You're a good guy Nick... And you're going to be a great father to our baby. I love you." She whispered in his ear, happily holding him so close. This was so nice.

Veronica gave a frustrated sigh since Sam was right, no one should make her feel that upset. "I know I shouldn't let that guy get to me, but.. I can't help it." With a frown, she turned her attention out of the window just wanting to get this restraining order.

Nick's eyebrows furrowed slightly at the feeling of her lips against his cheek before settling into stillness once more. Despite stirring, he continued on into his deep sleep where he felt the most at peace.

Sam smiled lightly and reached over, giving her hand a quick squeeze. "I know, but it doesn't even matter. The jackass won't get to you - I promise you that." He told her softly.

Emma smiled lightly and cuddled up to him, kissing his cheek once again. He was so cute - and so vulnerable now. She liked him like this, looking so happy. It was good for them.

"You would probably arrest him before anything else, Sam." She shook her head knowing that he would never let anything hurt her. Taking a deep breath, she spared one last glance at the house,"Okay, let's go get this warrant."

Feeling her warm embrace, he mumbled her name in his sleep, curling himself firmly around her. Nick would protect the baby and her from any type of harm.

Sam smiled lightly and nodded his head. "You know it!" He winked as they pulled up to the station and he kissed her forehead quickly. "We'll get this guy, I promise."

Emma smiled as he whispered her name and she kissed his forehead. She liked to think things were getting better from here on out - and she was glad for that.

Veronica offered a smile while getting out of the car and sighed,"Wouldn't it be completely disheartening if this guy wasn't the killer? Then, we wouldn't have a reason to arrest him." Walking back inside of the office, she walked closely near his side.

Continuing to cling onto her like a baby, Nick practically buried his face into the crook of her neck before relaxing once more. He softly sighed in comfort.

Sam shook his head. "You think?" He asked with a pout. "I couldn't just arrest him anyway?" He said with a slight chuckle.

Emma smiled and fell asleep holding onto him tightly. It was so nice being with him and she was comfortable in his arms. It felt perfect.

Lighting shoving him, she laughed with a shake of the head,"Very funny, but I wish we could just arrest people for being racist. Or, well, just because we wanted to." She glanced over in his direction with a slight grin.

The next morning, Nick awoke to the warmth surrounding him and hadn't realized that he had fallen asleep with Emma. He slowly sat up from the bed with an enormous yawn, trying to remember what had happened last night.

Sam chuckled and nodded his head. "You sure we can't?!" He asked with a teasing wink, leading her into the police station. Damn, he was so falling for this girl.

Emma was still cuddled up into him when he sat up and she groaned softly as she awoke. She rubbed her eyes sleepily and then smiled in his direction. "Good morning." She said happily.

"Of course not, dummy." She shook her head once more and went over towards one of the officers, requesting one of the officers to get the warrant. Leaning against the desk, she figured that it would at least take an hour to obtain the warrant. "Are you hungry? We have some time to spare." Veronica questioned with a smalls mile.

Glancing back down at Emma, Nick gave a subtle nod back then responded,"Morning." He remembered that he had admitted to his weakness the previous night and wasn't sure how to quite act.

Sam smiled lightly and nodded his head. "Yeah - food sounds good. Does fly mean I can be more cuddly for a little then?" He asked teasinfly and kissed her quickly, shaking his head.

Emma smiled and pecked his cheek softly. "You sleep okay baby?" She asks him softly and nuzzled into him, leaning back. "Can we just stay in bed all day long?" She asked with a giggle.

Veronica gave a smile back knowing that there was a good restaurant about five minutes away. "If you mean that you will behave yourself while being cuddly, then yes. Let's get you something to eat." She announced then took his hand to leave the police station.

"Yeah, Em." Nick gave a small smile while she moved him down back onto the bed. Glancing around the room, he sighed not knowing what time it even was. "I wish.. but don't we have to get to school today?" He questioned.

Sam chuckled and shook his head. "Since when have I not behaved?!" He asked her teasingly and kissed her quickly as they walked out, chuckling. He loved this girl. "Where shall we go?"

Emma sighed a little and buried her face into his chest. "Yeah... But I don't want to. Morning sickness sucks, Nick." She said softly and glanced up at him, smiling.

"I heard that the restaurant down the street is really good." She shrugged her shoulders slightly since it had just been from other humans. "Luckily, I'm not hungry, so I'll just get some water."

Nick understood that morning sickness was horrible, considering all the throwing up. "How have you been.. dealing with the morning sickness anyway?" He asked with concern since he had never thought about it until now.

Sam smiled and nodded his head. "Yeah - sounds good." He said, holding her hand tightly and he nuzzled against her happily. He like this feeling with her. "Let's go."

Emma smiled and abducfed, reaching up to peck his lips. It was nice to know he cared. "It's okay. I just suffer through it really... Peppermint and tea helps - and crackers are really good for help." She sighed. "It's okay though."

Walking down the street, she noticed that they were already bustling and overcrowded because of the lunch hour. They quickly arrived at the restaurant and found seats near the window. "Guess we got lucky." Veronica grinned over at him across the table.

"Em, it's not okay. How can you focus in school while feeling nauseous?" Nick automatically frowned while moving hands over the bump on her stomach. "Can't you get home schooling or something until the baby is born?"

Sam smiled and nodded his head. "We did, didnt we? You sure you don't want anything? I mean... I know...vampire appetite and all, but I don't want you to go hungry either..."

Emma sighed a little and shrugged, giggling as his hands touched her stomach. Three months and she didn't have much of a bump - but it was so sweet that he acknowledged that. "I don't know - i don't want to be cooped up inside of the house until the baby is born, Nick."

"Depends... Are you offering?" She questioned in a serious tone before waving it off with a smile. "I am just kidding. I'm good since I ate a few days ago." Veronica explained just in time for the waiter to come over and take their order.

Nick wrinkled his nose since he didn't want her getting sick in the middle of class. "I don't know, Em. Maybe you should just stay home today then. The teachers don't care when students are absent anyway." He shrugged his shoulders since he skipped class whenever he didn't feel like going.

Sam chuckled and was about to answer but she cut him off. "You know - I really would though... Let you do it." he said softly, reaching out to her and holding her hand. He ordered his food and then smiled lightly, sighing. "You're perfect."

Emma sighed a little and leaned into him. "Okay, fine. We'll talk about it and what we should do about this... I'm sorry." Se said and leaned into him. "I just don't want to get behind." She said. "I want to be good for our child." She smiled at him happily.

Shaking her head, Veronica didn't doubt for a moment that Sam would allow her to take a bite, but she couldn't take that risk. Even if she were almost one hundred years old, she couldn't control herself sometimes and practically lived off of blood packets from the local blood bank. "I am definitely not perfect." She stressed with a slight laugh since there were so many wrong things that had happened in her life.

"Okay, good. These are things that we need to talk about for our child's future and your well-being." He offered a small smile and leaned over to place a kiss against her cheek. Knowing that Emma just wanted to provide their child with a good life, Nick couldn't agree more,"We will. I'm going to graduate and get a full-time job. I'll provide for us, so you don't have to worry at all."
