Living in the Past

Sam reached over and held her hand, shaking his head. "No way baby - you're so perfect. You're perfect to me - and that's all that matters, okay baby." He reached over and pecked her lips. "And that offer does stand - if you need a bite, I'm here." He said with a smile and kissed her quickly before she could protest.

Emma smiled and nodded her head as he kissed her cheek. "I know baby. We do need to talk and we will." She said wish a smile and nuzzled against him. "I love you. I'm glad to have you here for this." She smiled and pulled him close. She was glad that he wanted to provide for her and love her. Finally she was happy about this whole thing.

Veronica still believed that he was being delusional since there was nothing perfect about being a vampire. If anything, being a human was a perfection within itself. "Okay, okay. I am pretty sure that I would never resort to that, but thank you for the offer." She stopped arguing with him when the waiter came back with the drinks.

"I know that you really need me here, and I've been a jerk only consumed by his own problems. I am so sorry." He apologized feeling as though there was nothing he could say or do to make it up to her. Taking her hand into his, Nick gave it a small squeeze and grinned. "Luckily, I will be able to make up for it for the rest of my life."

Sam smiled lightly and chuckled, shaking his head. He shook his head as then sighed when the waiter came over. "Just a burger and fries please." He said and sent the waiter away, taking her hands again. "I'm glad you're okay with this - me holding your hands and everything."

Emma giggled and nodded as he squeezed her hand. "You don't need to apologize and make it up to me. its okay." She said softly and kissed his cheek. "Will that make you happy?" She asked, blushing. "I mean... Being with me for the rest of your life? I just don't want to make you unhappy, Nick." Se blushed.

Veronica gave him a confused expression as if that were the oddest thing for him to say, because she loved holding hands with him. "Of course I'm okay with this. It's just.. during work that I'm not alright with this. I want people to think that we're professional." She admitted with a sigh since work and pleasure did not worked well together.

Nick blinked for a moment and thought about the answer to the question: did he really want to spend the rest of his life with her? "Em, you're the only one who has ever accepted me for who I am.." He explained since no one else had ever cared about him. With a smile, he was sure that this was the right decision. "I think that if I can make someone happy in my life, that's enough for me."

Sam sighed and shook his head. "We are completely professional! I don't think a little hand holding makes us unprofessional - as long as we're not making out on the job or anything." He reasoned, but he wouldn't fight it. He understood the point she was trying to make for him.

Emma smiled and cuddled up to him happily. "I love you." She whispered softly and smiled. "I'm really happy... To be having a family with you and everything. I'm glad I get to have you again." She said and kissed his cheek, just enjoying his touch again for now. she was happy to know this was right.

"I want people to take us seriously and not think we're getting distracted in the middle of work." She further explained but understood where he was coming from. Veronica knew that Sam was very open about his feelings and who he dated. "It's not like I am trying to hide it. I promise."

Nick gently rubbed her shoulder since this was pretty relaxing as they just laid there in the bed. "You never really lost me, Emma. I lost myself, and that made me an idiot." He told her with sigh but didn't want to get depressed about it all.

Sam sighed and nodded his head. "Are you absolutely sure about that? That you're not ashamed or somehow embarrassed to show me off as your boyfriend?" He asked, a little bit of childlike hurt in his eyes. He didn't face rejection well and he didn't want to get hurt by her.

Emma smiled lightly and cuddled up to him, her chin resting on his chest so she could look up at his face. She smiled lightly and shook her head. "Don't sound so ashamed of that - it's fine. I'm glad to have you back and that's all that matters, okay?" She asked him, kissing his cheek. "You're not an idiot. We'll get through all of this."

Veronica frowned back before leaned over to kiss him lightly. "I'm sure that that answers your question, Sam. Yes, I am absolutely sure." She brought his hand to her lip and lightly kissed his pulse to reiterate her point once more. There was no reason why she would ever be embarrassed of him.

"Yeah.. we'll get through this and then you'll have the baby. You know, I never imagined being a father at the age of eighteen." He gave a small chuckle to himself as he glanced down at her. Knowing that she was by his side, Nick actually felt like this would work out.

Sam smiled as she kissed him. He caressed her cheek and held her close. "Yeah, I guess it does." He said happily and leaned forward, pecking her lips again. "I'm sorry... I just have...issues I guess." He said softly and sighed, shaking his head.

Emma smiled and noddded her head. "Hey - I never planned on being a mother now either - but we have to deal with it now.. And you and i... we'll be great parents." She said and smiled. She leaned forward and kissed his forehead, smiling.

"No.. no, I get it. I wasn't being... fair to you and I made you worried." She knew that sometimes she accidentally pushed away people, but that hadn't been her intention at all. Relaxing back into her seat, she offered him a smile as the waiter came in and served Sam's food.

Nick liked how optimistic she was able this, because they both needed each other right now. "We will. I promise that I won't be like my parents." He attempted to reassure her as he gave her a gentle squeeze once more.

Sam smiled lightly and shook his head."I'm sorry for being childish about it." He said to her and then smiled as his food came out. "Thank you." He told the waiter and then dug in. "Gosh, I am so hungry!"

Emma smiled lightly and cuddled into his chest, sighing lightly. "I have no doubts in that promise." She said softly and smiled, kissing his cheek. "I love you baby." She whispered against the skin of his cheek and sighed.

Veronica wondered what food tasted like to humans since meat was completely unappetizing to her. "What do hamburgers taste like to you?" She questioned with a slight tilt of the head.

"Love you, too, Em." He responded back before remembering that she must be hungry, especially the baby. "Why don't I cook some breakfast for us? I have to head to school afterward though."

Sam looked at her in confusion and bit down on his lip, thinking. "I... I don't know how to describe it. It tastes like meat - really good... There's no way to describe something like that..."

Emma giggled and nodded her head. "Sounds perfect." She smiled lightly and kissed his cheek, smiling. "Then after class will you come back and cuddle with me all day?" She asked happily and smiled. She liked being with him.

"That's weird." She wrinkled her nose since she still couldn't understand it at all. It was the same thing with vampires and blood though. There was no way to describe why she found it appetizing nor could she explain the taste of it.

Sitting up from the bed, Nick moved off but made sure to tuck Emma in. "I'm going to see if I can start looking for some work.. I'll try to be back before dinner and maybe I can meet your parents." He suggested with a slight grin.

Sam chuckled lightly and shrugged. "I'm sorry - I just don't know how to describe it at all... Not exactly easy." He teased. "I mean - it's not like I understand your appetite for blood either - but I know that that's normal for you."

Emma smiled as he tucked her back into bed and she sighed, nodding. "Right - I understand that. Good - they're going to like you, I promise." She smiled and kissed his hand before letting him go. She loved being with him.

Veronica rested her cheek in her palm and gave a nod, understanding,"Of course, of course." Glancing down at the time, she wondered if they had been able to obtain the permit yet.

"I would hope so.. Otherwise, I think we're going to have a problem." He responded back then left the room to go downstairs to make some pancakes. Hopefully, her parents had bought some groceries for them to use.

Sam chuckled lightly and finished up his burger before he paid the bill. He smiled and stood, taking her hand tightly. "shall we go see that warrant and get this case over with." He smiled and pecked her cheek.

Emma giggled lightly and nodded. She cuddled back into the blankets again and closed her eyes. She was happy to be with him and she wanted all of this to work out. She was certain it would go well.

"Yeah, let's get this case over with." She smiled back at him as they left the restaurant to get back to the police station. Hopefully, they could get some time off after this to just spend time together.

Going into the kitchen, he found that there were only a few eggs left and sighed, hoping that that would be alright. He made two omelettes for the both of them and went upstairs to bring it to Emma. "Breakfast is an omelette with orange juice." He announced when he walked into the room.

Sam smiled and nodded his head. Luckily, the warrant was ready and she smiled. "Okay - let's go. We need to get this interrogation over with - I hate it." He chuckled. "I hate that he's threatening you."

Emma smiled as he came back up and she sat up happily. "Sounds perfect babe." She said happily. "I love when you cook for me.. I love when you're just around me in general." She giggled lightly.
