2,500 tons of awesome

Newt nodded and brushed some of the kaiju off himself. He walked past Hermann, deliberately avoiding looking at him and stepped out into the hallway.

Mako followed Newt out of the room and then led him to the room she thought was free. She peeked around the door before entering to make sure no-one else had had the same idea, and then entered, holding the door for Newt.
"What was it you wanted to talk about?"

“I…” Newt’s voice trailed off. He felt bad asking, his stomach already sinking as though it had a big old weight in the bottom of it. He swallowed and stepped into the room. “You’re on speaking terms with the Russians right?” What the heck was he doing? He kicked himself. Asking Mako to help him get hold of a damn kaiju brain. There was no way in hell that she’d humour him. She’d outright reject the idea and then run off to tell Stacker what he was planning. She wasn’t an idiot, Newt knew that, even if he didn’t say I’m planning on initiating a drift with it because Hermann said I can’t he knew damn well she’d figure it out. At least she would eventually.

Mako leant against one of the tables as she replied, "Yeah. Do you want me to introduce you?" She wondered what Newt wanted from Sasha and Alexis and why he didn't just ask them himself. Surely they must have spoken before?

“We’re not on good terms after they saw I have a tattoo of the kaiju that sort of decimated Russia’s coastline…” Newt told her. “And I need their help. I need them… And I don’t speak Russian. Anyway I er use the internet a lot to find kaiju specimens and there’s a man in Moscow and rumour has it he has a kaiju brain and… I could really use that in my research. Thing is i don't speak Russian that well and..." He gave her a pained look, "come on Mako, you know what I'm getting at here."

Mako thought for a moment, making sure she properly understood what Newt was rambling about before answering, "You want me to go and ask them if they can get a kaiju brain?"

“Well I was just going to ask you to get them to write me an email but I mean sure, they can do all the hard work if they want,” Newt trailed a hand nervously through his hair and smushed the kaiju junk into it some more. “Thing is, I don’t want people knowing what I’m asking for. Not Hermann, not Tendo, not Pentecost. I mean especially not him. So if we could keep this between us until the brain arrives… that’d be awesome.”

Mako narrowed her eyes, no longer amused at the fact that Newt had kaiju in his hair.
"Why can't anyone else know? What are you planning?" She asked, immediately suspicious at the secrecy.

“I’m not planning anything I swear okay,” Newt was trying hard to ignore the surge of panic that was trying to take over. “It’s just… I mentioned needing a brain to Hermann and he just got the complete wrong end of the stick you know? It would just make things easier for me if I wasn’t constantly being interrogated.”

Mako nodded slowly, deciding that she'd take his word for it, at least for now. What was he going to do with it that could be so bad anyway?
"Alright. I'll talk to Sasha or Aleksis later today."

Newt’s face lit up as Mako spoke. “Thank you,” he told her. “I mean it. And if you ever need anything feel free to ask. Favours for favours and all that.”

Mako smiled back at him, making a mental note to plan what she was going to say to the Kaidonovskies before she talked to them. They didn't intimidate her like they seemed to do to a lot of the shatterdome staff, but she didn't want to put Newt even more in their bad books.

“I mean it. You have no idea how much this will help my work,” Newt jammed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “I should probably go wash the kaiju out of my hair now,” he said with a grin.

"I'll remember you owe me next time I need something doing then," Mako chuckled as she stood up. She eyed his hair, grimacing a little at the state it was in, and nodded.
"A shower's probably a good idea."

"Yeah," Newt headed for the door, "and thanks again. Really appreciate it."

Mako headed back to her room, planning on drafting up some ideas for the restoration of Gipsy Danger.

Tendo was sat at his desk in the LOCCENT, going through the data from the kaiju attack. He paused every now and then to take a sip of coffee, but his eyes barely left the screen in front of him.

Stacker walked, pretty much silently, and came to a stop behind Tendo. He coughed abruptly to announce his presence.

Due to years of practice, Tendo managed to hide his flinch of surprise pretty well. He spun his chair around so he could look up at the Marshall.
"Sir?"

Stacker nodded in greeting and looked around to check they were alone or thereabouts before he grabbed a chair for himself. "Has Mako spoken to you?" he asked.

Tendo shook his head, "No. Haven't seen her today. Why, is something up?"
