Hunting for a Mate

Sam turned and smiled at the wolf beside him, "Well, I'm trying to plan the best way to clean these boulders out," he said softly, his hand idly reaching out and running through the fur between her ears, "Why didn't you go out on the hunt? You're pretty good at hunting."

Lucy was quiet for a moment as she looked up at the boulders. She decided to just ignore his questions and jump to the thing she wanted to talk about. Besides going into it would answer his question anyways. 'Yesterday I never said that you were the type of alpha that would do all of those things. I was just trying to explain the risk that you expect me to take in following the bond. I don't know if you are good or not but I am not so stupid to just jump into this with just the hope that it will work. ' She was just trying to explain it to him. Still she did not want to do this. Lucy wanted to go home even if he was a good guy. Though she wanted to make clear that it was not because it was 'replusive' or something like that. Though she did find him extremely annoying most of the time. Lucy then stuck her nose up. 'I am not saying that I like you though. You snap at me too much.'

Sam sighed, his fingers still lightly moving through her fur, "I know." He turned and looked back at the wall, still sitting there, "I overreacted and I'm sorry." He dropped his hand from her, letting his arms rest on his bent knees, "My father was the type of wolf you're trying to avoid." He said softly, a bit surprised he was just coming out with this information. Only Greg knew about what he was telling her, "My mother wasn't his mate." he said softly, "But when she dies in childbirth my father's mate raised me as her own. While I received no love from my sire, my mom - on the other hand - spoiled me with her love." He turned and met her gaze, "She couldn't have children. Not after the brutal claiming my father forced on her." He sighed again, "Which is why I reacted so strongly. I've worked my whole life not to be my father..."

Lucy listened to his story, feeling a bit bad now for not making it clear yesterday. It wasn't like she wanted him to feel like he as a horrible person or anything. She didn't want him to feel like this was his fault. Lucy had been just trying to get him to let her go and she thought that he would just automatically think that she was the problem-which she was. After all he wanted to make it work and she really wanted no part of this.
She turned to Sam, and nuzzled her head into his shoulder before reaching up and licking his cheek. Lucy then laid her head on his lap, pressing her nose into his hand. Lucy then closed her eyes. 'I don't think you're that bad. Just annoying, big mate'. Even though he had snapped at her, cornered her and threatened to mark her if she kept acting up, Lucy didn't think that he would actually do anything to really harm her. A lot of alphas used fear tatics on their more difficult betas and it seemed like he was attempting to do that with her.

Sam found a small smile stretching his lips as he looked down at her. His hand returned to rubbing her fur, his fingers roaming through the dense coat, "I suppose annoying isn't too bad." He ran his fingers down the back of her neck in a long stroke, "And I suppose your transition to this pack wasn't a smooth one." He sighed, "And that's my fault. So I'm sorry about that." he leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her fur before sitting back up, "What about you? He'd you grow up?"

Once Sam pulled away from her, she back to sitting like she was before. She glanced up at the caved in area before looking back to him. 'I grew up with the pack that you saw me with yesterday. When I was a pup the alpha found me in the snow, in a blizzard and took me in. He wasn't the pack leader then but he was the next in line. Anyways so he took care of me, he was my father, though I had many mothers. Many of the females of the pack took care of me when he was busy. They always said that I was a handful to watch over. They blame it on the fact that I had an alpha teaching me.'

Sam smiled, running his fingers over her ears, "Just with that little bit of information I can gather that you were well loved and very lucky." He leaned over and touched their noses together, "I am thankful for your father finding you." Then he leaned back a little, meeting her gaze, "Tell me something, are you against mating me because of your fear of being controlled and at the mercy of another or is it because you don't want fate to decide your life for you?"

'I am not against fate. Fate is the reason that the alpha found tiny pup me, with white fur in the snow in what I was told was the worst blizzard they had seen in years.' Lucy told him. She then laid down besides him, curling up so her tail was besides her face. Lucy met his glaze for a moment before looking away. 'So no I do not want to be controlled or 'at the mercy of another'. Though even more so I do not want to be in that position with someone I do not trust or someone that will hurt me or just use me. I have never been in that position myself so I do not feel this way from a personal experience or anything. I just know what I don't want to happen. And it seems like mating with the wrong person will lead me down that road the fastest.'

Sam nodded, "I can understand that," He said softly, "But you say you trust fate... don't you think fate would send you to your one? It's been good to you so far... why not trust it now? Or at least give it a chance?" He asked, "That doesn't mean I'm going to immediately mark you, Little Mate. Just that I don't want to fight or argue or worry... why don't we trust in fate and try?"

Lucy looked back up to Sam, before she reached her head out and laid it in his lap. 'I agree that fate has been good to me but I never said that I trust it whole heartedly. At least not with this. Think of all of the mates that had been bonded together. Not all of them are good bonds. You had just said that your own father had not been a good mate to his own.' Lucy then let out a huff. 'I can not promise that I will stop causing problems or stop us from fighting. Though we can try.' Lucy then looked up at him with wide eyes. 'Though if this does not work can I go home?' She doubted that he would agree to this but it was worth a try. Especially with all of the stories she had heard, Lucy was surprised he had not marked her already. The stories said that alphas that did not mark their mate after finding them, well they went crazy. She was unsure that this was true or not but she hoped it wasn't.

Sam sighed, giving her a small smile, "If you really try and it doesn't work, I promise you can go home," he said softly, knowing that it was a chance. With her doubt... it would cloud everything, but he wasn't like his father. He wasn't going to force her to stay if she wasn't happy. so he nodded, "Yes, you may go home in the end if you want." He just hoped she wouldn't want to. While he hadn't wanted a mate... for some reason fate her put her in his life... and he was willing to give fate another try.

Lucy's eyes lit up a bit once he said that. Oh she got him now! 'Deal!' She said as she reached up and licked his face. Now all she had to do was pretend like she was trying, annoy the fuck out of him and go home. Actually she didn't even have to do the middle part. All she had to do was tell him that she was not happy with how they were turning out. Really Sam didn't need to know the truth. And it wasn't like she was hurting him by doing this. After all he had not wanted her there either and she doubted he would actually go crazy without her.

Sam smiled. He didn't attempt to figure out why she was so excited about the deal - he'd drive himself crazy with the possibility - instead he decided to just enjoy her happiness, "So, now that that's settled, what would you like to do?" He asked, "Aside from clearing this out - and after yesterday I could use a break - I've got nothing better to do... and do you always hangout as wolf?" He randomly asked, the question bothering him since yesterday.

'No' Lucy sent him before she shifted. She then moved so she was sitting on her butt next to him. "I just didn't see any reason to shift." She told him simply as she moved her hands into her lap. First she spread her fingers out before arcing her back a little bit. It felt good to stretch out after going into human form. "What do you do around here normally?" She asked him. Lucy did not know what they had around the territory exactly.

Sam couldn't stop his gaze from roaming over her. Sure, nudity wasn't anything strange to him... but her? Her nudity caused his heart to race, "Uh... work." He said, forcing his gaze to meet hers, "We've only been here a week so there's a lot for us to do... but ever few days the pack gets a break of some sort." He smiled at her, "What is it you normally do?"

"We play fight and have fun with the little kids. A lot of the time we go exploring through the territory to see if anything has changed. We go swimming and the cave system was so big that we could get lost in it for hours." Lucy told him as she ran a hand through her hair. "When we got really bored we would groom each other. Though in human form we would head into town sometimes."

Sam smiled, resting his arms on his knees, "Well, which of those would you like to do? Aside from exploring the caves. It's too dangerous at the moment. Other than that you can choose any of the other options." He idly reached out and brushed the hair from her face, curling it around her ear, "So, what'll it be?"

Lucy hummed for a moment before perking up a bit. "Lets head to town." She told him. "We are already in human form. I just need to grab some clothes and you need a shirt but besides that." She then got onto her feet, heading into the cave. Lucy had seen a few dresses in there. She knew that the other girls would not mind as long as she brought it back in one piece. Lucy pulled on a blue flowy dress before turning back to Sam.

By the time Lucy returned to Sam he'd already put on a black tshirt and informed Greg of where they were going. When he spotted her he smiled, then walked with her through the forest, giving her a sidelong glance, "So... I don't mind calling you Little Mate, but I'm sure the humans will be confused... are you ever going to tell me your name?" He asked, finally turning his head fully to watch her.

Lucy slipped her arm into his as they walked through the woods towards the town. When he asked about her name, Lucy couldn't help but be rather difficult about it. "Humans are always confused. Besides you have never really asked me for my name, have you? Both had been indirect. The last time you told me yours but didn't ask for mine. And this time you are still be rather indirect about it. Anyways that is not really answering your question. Hm it is rather amusing that you don't know honestly though perhaps I should tell you.'
