She poured back in without knocking ten minutes later. "Aye, they're all back. They picked a girl from the other side up."

"It just got fixed-" Jasmin punched him in the arm, "What do I do with it? Lydia cut it."

"Alright, bring in Aspen. I heard she was going out to the eastern border and I want to know what she saw."

"He'd better make himself available, then, because Kraemer's gonna rain holy hell on all of you if he doesn't." Aspen snarled.

"Why dd Lydia cut your hair? Wait, no. Why did you let her? Never. Don't ever." Every person had their own job, and Lydia's was not hairdresser.

Lydia nodded and did a sarcastic half-cursty on her way out. "Duke!" She called. "Bring Aspen in!"

Duke puffed and turned her in the direction of Kraemer's study.

"I'll send out a call." Lydia promised and back out with a half-sarcastic curtsy.

"Thank you," The man murmured, leaning back in his chair and drawing in a deep breath. He was done, for the most part, with his paperwork, and his curiosity was taking over.

"I don't fix hair, I fix people. See Nicole for your hair problems, although I'm not sure how well she can fix what Lydia did. We'll see, dwarf."

The man answered the buzz of his talkie. "Uh, yeh-" He puffed a fuzzy sigh.

"I am not." He was perfectly sane, although he might've had a different way of expressing it.

"Change of plans, sweetheart. You're going to Kraemer. They're getting a car hitched up for us." He smiled a gap-toothed smile, all devilishly handsome charm.

She wrinkled her little tiny nose, head falling into his shoulder before she could realize.

The brunette hardly flinched. "I don't understand." The East, it seemed, was all over the place. They couldn't seem to decide what they wanted to do, and when.

The man glanced down at her, brow furrowed in curiosity, but dismissed it as fatigue. Crazy as he might've been, the medic part of him tended to think of actions as symptoms.

They had similar jobs, it seemed, but she was in more of a position to question orders. He, it seemed, was not.

"What was the point of all this, then?" It was entirely too much trouble for them to just let her go.

"Or don't." The man said with a roll of his eyes. He was interesting sober, but wasn't sure if the same could be said for her. He'd have to see.

He halted at the passenger side, swinging the door open. "Look, sweetheart - I don't make these honky-tonk, backwoods rules. I just follow 'em." He waved his hand toward the open door, waiting for her to step in.

"Shock." Jasmin said, as if that was an explanation for everything. Then her eyes cleared, and she gasped for coherency. "Sorry - I'm sort of in shock. Shouldn't you be able to tell that? Was that rude of me?"

The girl rolled her eyes and pulled herself into the passenger seat, then closed her own door. He'd opened it; she wouldn't allow him to close it, too.

"I was actually going to blame it on the alcohol. Don't worry about it." Rude or not, it wasn't like the man took much to heart to begin with.
