All At Once

I nodded a little, crawling onto his bed and laying down so I faced him. "What are you filling out?" I asked quietly.

He saw her come to the door and sighed softly. "You didn't get any sleep, did you?" He asked softly, sitting on the porch swing.

"Just reports on some old cases or just plain paper work," he told her.

She shook her head,"No," she said softly.

I nodded a little, holding my blanket around me. I didn't know what it was about him but being in a room with him was much more comfortable than my own bedroom. "Tell me about them?" I asked him softly.

He nodded. "I did bring you some sleeping pills. I figured you could use them."

"Just basic theft cases, or auto robbery," he said to her smiling a little.

She smiled,"Thank you," she murmured gently as she sat next to him.

I nodded a little as I listened to him. "I still can't sleep." I mumbled softly.

He handed her the pills and sighed. "If you want, we can have a session? I'm here anyway, so I don't mind."

"I figured," he smiled a little,"You can sleep there if you like, when I was a second year rookie I killed a shooter at an elementary school; I couldn't sleep alone for almost year,"

She took them in her hand,"I can't feel anything," she said to him gently, "Everything is numb." she murmured.

I nodded a little, keeping my eyes on him. "That must have been difficult." I murmured a little. "Where will you sleep?" I asked him.

He nodded a little. "You're in a minor state of shock. Like your sister. She doesn't show any emotion, so she's in a temporary case of shock until she's reminded of her feelings. That's what you're feeling."

"Well we're both adults I'll just lay with you" he shrugged.

She nodded a little as she looked at him,"I want to feel again," she murmured

I nodded a little, moving over so that there would be space for him as well. "Alright. It wouldn't be fair for me to take up your bed." I said softly, yawning a little.

He nodded a little. "Well what are the emotions that mean the most to you?"

He smiled,"Don't worry about it,"

"Happiness," she murmured,"I used to be such a happy person," she murmured.

I nodded a little and sighed. "Alright." I said, watching him finish doing the paper work.

He nodded. "Alright, what used to make you happy. Like really, truly, no care in the world happy?"

She sighed a little,"Well, traveling," she told him softly.

He sighed as he pushed a hand through his hair.

I looked at him. "Are you done with your paperwork?" I asked him quietly.

---

He nodded a little. "Anything other than that? Unfortunately traveling isn't possible, what else made you happy?"

"Not really," she said softly as she thought about it.

He nodded,"Just about," he said to her.

I nodded a little, climbing under his blanket and moving to the side. "Why was the shooter at the school? Why did he do it? It's children." I said softly.

He nodded. "Well, what's the next important emotion to you after happiness?"

"Family," she said softly as she looked at him,"I want to make a family of my own," she told him gently.

"They're claiming mental insanity," he said shrugging, "I think he is just a moron with a gun,"

He nodded slightly. "Do you have a significant other?"

I nodded a little and sighed. "Stop working. You're making me dizzy."

He smiled and nodded then turned off the lamp,"alright,"

She shook her head,"Nope, no one is interested in a girl with dreams of a family, I'm just trying to tie him down," she said mocking lines she'd heard before.

I scooted back, letting him get in the bed as well and sighing. "Why couldn't you sleep? You had nightmares?"

He shook his head. "You're young, but dreaming of a family isn't bad. Maybe the men around you are too immature for you."

She nodded a little,"Maybe," she said as she thought about it,"Who knows," she murmured.

"Yeah, and the images in my head," he told her softly.
