Skylar nodded slightly and it was only a while later that she stood up. She figured she'd need a shower, too, and hoped that the showers were empty by now. If nothing else, she could just use the locker room showers because there definitely wouldn't be anybody in those when practices weren't underway yet.

That afternoon River showed up to practice with his friends. He was excited for tryouts. He stood there as the coach picked teams. Shirts against skins. River pulled his shirt off, then started practice. When it was scrimmage time he took the ball, seeing Skylar in his way. He ran into, knocking her to the ground then kicked the ball to score. He was an aggressive player and it didn't show when the two of them first practiced together.

Skylar cringed when she made contact with the ground and she looked over to River with a small frown. She'd encountered rough players before, so she knew how to adapt to situations like this. Brushing herself off, she got ready for the next attempt and, when he tried to knock her down again, she sucked to the ground at his legs, determined to trip him up.

River hit the ground hard when Skyler went underneath or him. He jumped up to his feet, glaring at the boy. If it was one thing he hated it was a play that was better than him. Sure he loved his team, but he didn't like to be showed up.

Skylar offered a small grin upon seeing River glare at her, though she was quick to start getting the ball to the other side of the field. The first chance she got, she kicked the ball into the goal to score.

River frowned as he took the ball from one of the other guys and scored. He smiled and after the scrimmage ended he looked at the coach. He relaxed as the coach named off the people who made it. River was not shocked to hear his name.

Skylar was relieved when it was announced she had made the team. It'd been a little stressful. It was no wonder this team got so much attention. When they were dismissed, she moved to gather her things so she could head back to the room.

River got back to his room, grabbing his things and went to shower. He came back after getting dressed then sat down at the desk and started his homework. He looked at Skylar, "You did good today." He told the boy. River looked back at his book, wrting some things down.

Skylar blinked but offered a small nod to his words. She planned to shower some time later in the night, when the showers would be empty. For now, she was focusing on doing the small amount of homework she'd gotten on the first day. "Thanks," she said after a moment, "It was pretty fun."

River nodded, "Yea you say that until coach makes you run til you puke." He said, chuckling. He went back to his homework, not saying much as he focused on what he was doing. He was glad that they had Skylar on their team. He was pretty good.

Skylar shrugged slightly in response. "I'll do whatever it takes to stay on the team," she said simply, though she didn't speak any more. They each seemed to fall into silence and, as it got later, she stood up. Gathering her clothes, she decided it was late enough for her to take a shower without others being around, and she left to head to the showers.

River finished up his homework then laid down for bed. He closed his eyes, falling asleep before Skylar got back. He opened them when she bumped into his bed in the dark. River only groaned and rolled to face away from the other boy.

It was hard to see in the dark and Skylar hadn't expected to take so long in the shower to the point that River would already be asleep. When she bumped into his bed, she cringed slightly. "Sorry," she muttered before she moved to climb onto her own bed and curled up.

River woke up the next morning, staring at the ceiling. He really wasn't ready to get up and go on with his day. He sat up and rubbed the back of his neck, before he started to get dressed for the day. River put his things in his bag then looked over, seeing Skylar was still asleep.

Skylar was sleeping fairly well. She blamed the fact that she was still asleep on her coming back to the room so late.

River looked over as Skylar's alarm went off. He looked a the time, then headed out for his first class. He wondered how the other boy would do with his first practice.

When the alarm woke her, Skylar was mildly surprised. At least the room was empty. Standing, she got dressed and headed to class.

River walked to practice that afternoon and smiled as he set his bag down. He was ready for today. He looked over as Skylar joined them. River looked at the coach as he talked then started to practice.

Skylar was fairly excited for practice. It was her first official practice since joining the team, after all. She focused on the practice entirely.

River was kind of glad when practice was over. The coach had made them stay longer so he was pretty tired. He couldn't wait til their first game. River walked with Skylar and the other guys back to their rooms. He knew he had a lot of school work to do too.
