Bryce respected her wish, he'd keep his mouth shut, for now. One day he would get to tell her father how he really felt. The same day he would take Makenna away from this place. He shook his head when she asked what happened. How was he supposed to explain the breakdown he had just had? How was he supposed to explain how badly he wanted to go pick up random drugs, down them all, and end up somewhere else?

He just shook his head, and held her close. "Don't worry about me. Do you want to lay down? Go somewhere?" Bryce wasn't sure what to say, or do. He could hear his dad attempting to stumble up the stairs. The last thing he wanted was for Makenna to have to deal with that.



Madi sighed, she just didn't want Chris to go with her. She needed to see Ashton, and handle this herself. The small girl made her way to the rundown apartment, and straight down the stairs to the basement apartments. She knocked twice, and was greeted by a dingy looking guy. He eyed her up, and down. Standing her ground, she pushed past him, and went to the back bedroom.

Going into the bedroom, she saw a naked girl passed out on the mattress in the corner, and Ashton in the other. Running over to him, Madi dropped to her knees, and knocked the bottle away from him. "Ashton! What the fuck!" Angry tears welled in her eyes.

Makenna frowned when he said not to worry about it, "Why don't we patch up your hands up before we go somewhere. I did hear about a concert down town if you want to go." She suggested. It would be nice to get out and have some fun. Makenna looked around his room, seeing the things he had knocked over. She sat down on his bed, thinking about all the women he probably had in it. She bit her bottom lip lightly, "Bryce." She said, looking at him as he wrapped his hands. "Do you think we are more than friends?" She asked him. She had been thinking about what Ashlyn texted her the other night about how they were past the friend zone. Maybe it was more of Makenna's fault because she resisted Bryce.

Ashton looked at her, barely realizing who she was. "Mads." He said, smirking. "What the fuck are you doing here." He said, chuckling. He looked at the glass on the floor, "Somebody's gotta clean that up." He slurred. Ashton grabbed her hands, pulling her to him, "Sit with me." He said, laughing. "Fuck i want you so bad. "Fuck me." He urged her. He ran his hand over her body, "Right now." He slurred as he ran his fingers through her hair. He smiled as he ran his hands down her body. "You are so fucking sexy." He muttered.

Bryce furrowed his brow, and looked down when she mentioned the concert. A girl he had been talking to invited him, already. He didn't want to agree to go with Makenna, when he had already agreed to go with another girl. Although, they could all go together, it wasn't as though Makenna had feelings for Bryce. He sighed, and watched as she began to bandage his hands. His thought process stopped. "W-wait what?" It took a lot to shock Bryce, but this took him by complete surprise. "You've never seemed interested in being more than friends with me." He trailed off.

It wasn't like he tried that hard, either. He knew he wanted to be with her, and that it would probably be the healthiest relationship he'd ever have. But he was scared as hell to mess everything up.



Madi wanted to smack him, her body was shaking when he pulled her close. As much as she enjoyed having his hands all over her, she knew he wasn't in his right mind. "Stop it. Not here, not right now. You're so fucked up." She placed a hand on his cheek, forcing him to look her in the eyes. His eyes were bloodshot, and glassed. There was no sign of sobriety in him. "You fucking idiot." She half laughed, half sobbed. "You promised me, you promised you wouldn't do this to me again." She knew he wasn't going to remember her crying, or saying any of this. The next day, she would pretend it never happened, just to keep him from feeling like total shit.

Last time, not only did she find him like this, but he was hurtful with his words. Told her to fuck off, that she was stupid for being with Chris, everything else he could throw at her. This time, it didn't seem to be the case. "We need to get you out of here. C'mon, we're going to my apartment."

Madi pulled out her phone, and sent a message to Chris.

Found him. Josh is gonna take him.
Weekend in the cabin for detox. I'll see you tonight.

She'd take care of Ashton, again, and always.

Makenna looked at him, “I asked if you liked me as more than friends.” She said. She bit her bottom lip lightly, “I just wanted to know because I mean I think I like you as more than my friend, but I don’t want to get too caught up in that if you don’t think that way. I’ve been hurt enough so I need to know if I need to be your friend or if you think we can be more.” She explained. She didn’t want to put her heart into something if she was going to get nothing in returned.

Ashton smirked, “Alright.” He said. He attempted to get up then staggered with her, “Why are you helping me? You want Chris remember.” He slurred. He was glad when they got to her apartment. He sat on her couch, “Hey do you have any drugs?” He asked, laughing. He looked up at her, “I love you.” He said, “So much.” He added before he just stared at the floor for a few minutes. He sighed as he kept staring at the floor.

Bryce wasn't sure what to say to her. Of course he liked her as more than a friend, he loved her. He just wasn't sure how to be in a relationship. Bryce was notorious for cheating, but he knew he couldn't do that to Makenna. "You do know who I am right? I'm known for being a fuck boy, or whatever." He shook his head. "Mak, I love you. But I do drugs, I make really stupid life choices. You deserve more than me." He looked down, he wanted to add how he would happily be with her though.

"But if you tell me what you want, I'll do it. I'll do whatever I have to." He looked back up, and titled her chin towards him. Leaning in, he pressed his lips to hers. They had kissed before, but this time was different. He felt giddy, it was weird, a good weird. "You're beautiful."



"Gee, pretty sure I 'wanted' Chris the first time you did this to me. And I'm pretty sure I 'wanted' him when you, and I first started hooking up. I just didn't want him to hurt you.." she trailed off. Once they were in her apartment, and his drugged body was on the couch, she stood there and huffed. Too much had happened in the last few days, and she was honestly ready to talk to a sober Ashton. She rolled her eyes at his question, "If I do, you get none."

Madi's mouth fell open when he said he loved her. Never once had those words escaped his mouth. Not with her, not with the other girls he slept around with. She got down to eye level, and sat in front of him on her knees. She tilted his head up, "I love you, so much." She rested her forehead to his.

Makenna looked at him as he spoke. She shook her head, "My life is already fucked up so what is one more thing? I dont care about those things or what people say." She said, smiling at him. She looked up at him then kissed him back, stepping closer to him. She bit her bottom lip lightly when he said that she was beautiful. "I want you to be mine and only mine. Can you do that?" She asked him. She wanted to make sure that he didn't decide that he wanted to keep sleeping around.

Ashton smiled as his head rested against hers, "I'm glad someone does." He said. He pulled away, "How long are you keeping me here?" He asked. "You know I'm going to go right back to drugs right?" He said, "I'm no good for you." He said, shaking his head  "I will ruin you like i do everything else." He slurred.

Bryce held her close, and listened to everything she said. It wasn't as though he had to think about being with her, or only being hers. He was nervous to accept that as his new life. Never once had he been in a serious relationship. Sleeping around, scoring with whomever, that's how he rolled. But Makenna made him want to change. "I can do whatever you need me to do." That was that. No more sleeping around, no more getting easy lays from wannabe groupies. He was Makenna's, and she was his.

It made him happy, but nervous. He didn't want to mess things up with her.



Madi felt her heart snap, "I'm keeping you here as long as I need to. I don't care if you go back to drugs, but I'm not going to let you go on anymore benders." Angry tears welled in her eyes once more. She was exhausted, and angry. Her body could only react in tears, and holding back screaming. "You couldn't ruin me. Chris already has." She spoke softly. "You don't beat me, put me down, loan me out for drugs, or rape me." Madi crawled onto the couch beside him, and wiggled her way underneath his arm, her head on his lap.

"Just be with me. Let me be your drug." She'd do whatever she could to help him.

Makenna smiled at his words and kissed him, placing her hands on his cheeks as she felt his arms go around her. She pulled away, "And you can deal with me not having sex with you?" She asked him. She knew they would eventually but she wasn't going to just throw herself at him. He knew she refused to do anything with him because she didn't want to have sex after her dad had hit her. As much as Makenna wanted to have sex with Bryce she wasn't going to go back on her words.

Ashton watched as she laid her head in his lap. He ran his fingers through her hair, "You need to get away from him." He whispered. He stared ahead of them, wishing that he could get her out of her relationship with Madi. Right now they were both kind of stuck with him. Ashton pretty much lived with him because he had no where to go and Madi was just stuck in his web.

Bryce hated that he had made such an image of himself, especially to her. "Makenna, I've handled it this well for how long now?" He raised an eyebrow, and smiled down to her. He knew his reputation was bad, but the last thing he ever wanted to do was hurt Makenna in any way. It would be difficult, because he did imagine it all the time, with her the most. And now that she was really his, it made temptations greater, but he respected her too much to try and do anything stupid. "I just want to make sure I'm really who you want. You know me better than anyone in this world, which is exactly why I thought you'd be the one to stay away."

After everything he went through with his dad, and then his mistresses, left Bryce a hollow shell. He wasn't good at showing his emotions, or affection, unless he was intoxicated somehow. Rarely did he actually want to hold anyone, or cuddle. He just wanted to get to the point, and be done. The less physical contact he had to make, the better. But that wasn't how he felt with Makenna. She helped let down his guard.



"I know, I don't want to be with him. I want to be with you. I'm your girl." Madi leaned up, and gave his cheek a peck. Madi was stuck with Chris, she really didn't have a choice. Living at home with her mom, she might be able to convince her to let Ashton move in, but she doubted it. The apartment was too small as was. Chris was no good for either of them. She knew if she continued to be with Chris, sooner or later she'd end up in the hospital, or worse. The thought made her shiver. Chris was good at what he did, keeping the bruises private, as well as most of the beatings. "The apartment might be small, but maybe you could move in with me? You don't have to tell Chris where you moved, you could always say you moved back home."

She knew his parents were shit, and didn't care if he was there or not. They had been the ones to kick him out in the first place. "We're only in high school, but I feel like a damn adult." She noticed how Ashton smelled of sweat, alcohol, and burnt drugs. She shook her head, "You need to shower, too." Madi crawled off the couch, and went towards the bathroom. She grabbed a clean towel, and a pair of shorts that Chris had left there before. "C'mon, stinky."

Makenna smiled, "I have thought about this for awhile now. I know what i want." she said. She looked up at him, "You are what I want." She said as she hugged him. She hugged him tightly. She was glad that he wanted her back. She knew that he could be emotional it was just hard to cut through his barriers. She knew he barely let any of his friends in besides her.

Ashton nodded, "Alright." He said as he got up. He walked into the bathroom, "Thanks." He said as he started to take his clothes off. He got in the shower, relaxing as the water washed over his body. He closed his eyes, hating the person he had become.

Bryce smiled, happy she had thought about the two of them together. "You're who I want." He kissed the top of her head, and sighed. He was almost too tired to go to the show, he wanted to curl up with Makenna for the night. He was sober, and even felt like cuddling. He smiled to himself. "Look, if I go slip my dad some money, he'll go get a hotel room with his new thing. Then we can have my house to ourselves. We can order take out, and sleep in an actual bed." He had enough money from the show they had played, and from selling on the side.



Madi stood in the living room, she called her mother and explained the situation. As reluctant as she sounded, she still agreed that Ashton could stay. Of course, her mother knew nothing about what Chris had done to her. She claimed that the two boys got into a fight, and Chris kicked him out. Ashton would only be staying until he found somewhere else to go. Which, in Madi's mind was an apartment of their own. Somewhere out of town. She didn't care if she had to finish up high school online. She wanted out, and away from Chris. But going to the cops put everyone in trouble.

As her anxiety began to rise, she went to the bathroom, and grabbed a xanax. She tried to be as quiet as possible, not wanting to bother Ashton, or let him see the drugs.

Makenna nodded, "Okay." She said, liking the idea of being able to sleep in a bed. She watched as he walked out and looked around his room. It was pretty dark and he had a few bongs and pipes laying around. She looked at the guitar in the corner and walked over to his desk, seeing a song he was writing. She didnt look at it though because she hated when people looked at her art. She looked at the bathroom mirror, frowning when she seen the shattered glass and blood. Makenna looked back as Bryce came back into the room, hearing his dad leave. "Are you okay?" She asked, looking back at the mirror.

Ashton smiled when he heard her trying to be quiet. "Mads what are you doing?" He asked, hearing the sound of her dropping something. He shook his head, not moving from the shower. He washed off then got out and wrapped a towel around his waist. He looked at the pill bottle in her hand. "Whats that?" He asked.

Bryce wandered downstairs, and slipped his dad the money. The drunk sloppily hugged his son, and then grabbed the half naked woman who was barely awake off the couch. He seemed excited to be getting out for the evening, especially at the expense of someone else. He came back upstairs, and looked to Makenna, then down to the ground. He couldn't tell her, he really couldn't bring himself to tell her that he had a freak out. He sighed, and shrugged. "It's all over with, I'm fine." What a lie. A few hours before he had been smashing that mirror in hopes of slicing his wrists, or sending him to the hospital somehow. He wanted to be drugged up with something, anything. He didn't care. He wanted to feel something. "So what should we order for dinner?"



Madi cursed to herself when she knocked a cup onto the ground. She laughed a little, and said she wasn't doing anything. The girl attempted to quickly pick up the glass, and grab her bottle, and leave. But no such luck. She stood there and stared to Ashton. "N-nothing." She put the bottle behind her back. She didn't want him to get a mad that she was using, or try and use it himself. Madi had been lying to the guys when she said she wasn't doing any other drugs. For a few months she had been getting xanax, selling her prescription, and then buying higher doses.

Makenna looked at him, "We can order chinese or Pizza. I'm fine with whatever you want." She said as she walked over and sat on his bed. She looked up at him as he decided on what he wanted to eat. She told him what she wanted then laid back on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. She was wearing a pair of shorts and a cut off band shirt. She was still barefoot because she didn't think to grab shoes when she left her house. She looked at the posters on his ceiling. Half naked women, go figure. It was Bryce after all. She looked at him as he hung up his phone, "Are you going to lay with me in an actual bed now?" She asked, smiling as he laid down next to her. She didn't know for sure if he was dealing or not, but she had heard from a few people that he was. She wasn't going to ask unless he told her though. Makenna looked over at him then snuggled against him, resting her head on his chest. She hugged his body, closing her eyes. He was finally her boyfriend and she knew Ashlyn was going to rub it in about how she was right about the two of them. She knew the next morning they had to go to school, but she didn't mind because she hated being home.

Ashton frowned, "What do you have Mads?" He asked. He grabbed the bottle from her hand, seeing the xanax. "Are you using?" He asked, narrowing his eyes. "So what you just think that I have to stop, but you can?" He asked, getting mad. He dumped the pills in the toilet and flushed them. He stepped closer to her, "Don't let me ever catch you doing that again. Don't be a fuck up like me okay." He said, stepping back when he realized he was scarying her.

He was keeping it low with pot, but started dabbling in some pills. He looked over at his now girlfriend, and crawled into bed with her. He could see her bruises, and scars. He held her close, running a hand through her hair. He kept kissing the top of her head, whispering how beautiful she was.He didn't care about anything else at the moment, just that he was finally with Makenna. Grabbing his phone, Bryce took a picture of Makenna resting on his chest. He posted it on snapchat with the caption, Finally mine. He turned on his TV, and continued to hold her. Nothing could ruin this for them.

She huffed, and turned to go to her bedroom. Madi slammed the door, and sat down on her bed. She grabbed a pillow, and held it to her chest. She popped it as fast as she could, then laid down.

Makenna laid there watching the tv as they waited for their food. She heard someone knocking on the door and moved so Bryce could get up. She sat up and ran her fingers through her hair. Makenna walked downstairs, never really seeing his house before. She usually just sneaked into his room through the window. She watched as he opened the pizza box. She took a plate from him and took a piece of the pizza. “So do you guys have any more shows coming up?” She asked him. She knew that Taven had been pretty good at booking gigs for them lately.

Ashton frowned as she stormed off, “Mads.” He said, sighing as she slammed the door. He got dressed then walked to her bedroom door and knocked, “Madi will you please talk to me.” He said. “I’m sorry okay.” He said, “I just…you are so perfect and I don’t want something bad to happen to you.” He admitted. “You don’t want to get involved with all this stuff. He said.

Bryce paid for the food, and began to plate it for them. He listened to her question, and thought about it. "We have one coming up next week. We actually have a few shows that week. Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday." He scarfed down the hot pizza, burning his tongue a couple times. He was just really hungry, and didn't want to stop. He looked around, and thought about how dark his house looked. "I'm hoping you'll be at the shows." He gave her a sheepish smile. "We have a couple new songs that should be done by then."

He looked down to his bandaged knuckles, and sighed. Hopefully the teachers at school wouldn't question what happened. He didn't have an answer. And the school was one more incident from calling the police to his house.



Madi sniffled, and thought to herself. It's true, she hadn't been the same since she started popping pills. But there wasn't much else she wanted to do with her life. She opened the bedroom door, and looked up to him. "Are you done fucking around with other girls? And are you done fucking around with hard drugs? I don't care if you smoke, or drink. But no more pills, or needles, or anything like that." She leaned into his chest, her small body becoming dizzy from whatever she had taken.

Makenna smiled, “You act like I haven’t been to every show you have ever had.” She teased him, laughing softly. She finished her pizza after a bit and looked at him. She looked at his hands, “What are you going to tell them?” She asked him. Makenna figured he could make up something about a fight if anyone asked. Makenna looked down at the leftover pizza, “I’m tired.” She said. She was pretty exhausted from everything that happened. She looked at Bryce before she went upstairs with him. She laid down in his bed with him, closing her eyes. She felt his arms go around her, “Goodnight Bryce.” She whispered. She fell asleep not long after she said that, hugging one of his pillows that he had as she slept.

Ashton hugged her, “I’m done with girls and I will work on the drugs. It can’t promise that though because it’s really hard Mads. You don’t understand.” He said as he kissed the top of her head. “I will try though.” He said. “For you.” He said, smiling down at her.

Bryce chuckled, and agreed with her. He smiled, and then frowned. "I'll just tell them I got into a fight over the weekend. Not like I haven't gotten in trouble for that before." He shrugged, and agreed on being tired. Once the two of them were in his bed, he wrapped his arms around her small frame, and closed his eyes. "Sweet dreams, Makenna." He was happy that for one night she wouldn't have to worry about anyone hurting her. And he wouldn't have to worry about his shithead father.



Madi was thankful enough that he'd be done with the other girls. "We'll figure out the Chris situation, too." She wrapped her arms around him, and closed her eyes. She was thankful to have found him, and that he was going to clean up some. "I'm happy you're here. I'm happy you're safe." Madi tugged on his hand, dragging him to her small bed. "I know it's not much, but we can at least cuddle."
