“How do you know that won’t make things even worse,” Artemis asked.

Zack shrugged. “I don’t care about her or her brother anymore,” he mumbled. “I just hope she’s miserable.”

“I don’t know, but don’t you think everyone has the right to know everything?” Matt asked. “There’s a whole life they don’t know about.”

“If Matt broke her wrist, I’m sure she is,” Fae said.

“Do you think they’ll even let me close enough to say the spell,” she asked.

“She’s an idiot if he did that and she stays with him,” Zack stated.

“If they won’t, well have to find a way to do it,” Matt said. His eyes widened in realization as he looked at her. “What . . . What happened to the twins?”

Fae nodded her head. She moved off her seat, across the center console into his lap, straddling his thighs. She gently pushed her fingers through his hair. “I think you need to get away from all this nonsense,” she said.

“Zack and I never had sex so they don’t exist,” Artemis admitted.

Zack rolled his eyes at Fae and gently moved her off of him. “I’m not in the mood.”

Matt frowned deeply. “How were you so willing to give up your children?” he asked.

“Fine, I’ll take you home then,” Fae mumbled.

“I went and saw the fates before I said the spell,” Artemis sniffled. “They’ll still be born but just not to me.” She clenched the hospital sheets between her good hand as more tears streamed down her face. “The Fates said they’d grow up happier with Zack and Fae as their parents.”

Matt’s eyes widened. “What? No,” he mumbled. “No way.”

Fae started the car again, driving Zack to his grandparents’ house.

“They let me see it,” Artemis sobbed. “They were so much happier without me.”

Zack stayed quiet, just wanting to go home and sleep.

Matt shook his head. “I refuse to believe that, Artemis,” he said. “We choose our own destiny.”

Fae parked outside the house, glancing over at him. “Are you going to be okay?” she asked.

“And you were on cloud nine with the way things were before,” Artemis snapped. “Sharing Fae and treating each other like shit when you didn’t get your way?”

“I’ll be fine,” Zack replied. “I’m just going to try and sleep.”

Matt huffed. “Things weren’t perfect,” he snapped. “But we all had our own lives. Now it feels like you’re controlling everything.”

Fae nodded her head. “Try not to stress too much,” she said. “There are bigger things to worry about than Artemis and her dumb brother.”

“I’m fucking sorry,” Artemis snapped. “I thought I was helping! I thought I was doing the right thing!”

Zack nodded. “I know,” he mumbled. “I just miss my parents.”

“Don’t yell at me!” Matt yelled at her.

Fae frowned. “You’ll get them out,” she said. “You just have to find proof against Apollo.”

“Fuck you mutt,” Artemis hissed. She didn’t know why she felt so angry in that moment but she did. Maybe it was regret since things were worse than before or maybe because deep down she knew Matt was right. She had given up her children for no reason.

Zack nodded. “Will you help me?”

Matt growled, losing his temper completely. He slapped her across the face, getting up and grabbing the chair, throwing it across the room and smashing it against the wall. He huffed in anger, wanting nothing more than to strangle her right then and there. But he could hear footsteps coming down the hall, so he quickly ran out of the room so he wouldn’t get caught.

Fae nodded her head. “Yeah,” she said, smiling at him. “I will.”

Artemis felt tears stream down her face more, in shock Matt had actually hit her. She had never pegged him as someone to be aggressive the way he had been.

Zack leaned over and pecked Fae’s cheek. “Thank you.”

Matt ran away from the hospital, his heart pounding in his chest. His thoughts were going a mile a minute, so much so that his head was actually aching.

Fae was surprised at the action, but smiled at him anyways. “You have my number,” she said. “Let me know if you need anything.”

Zack nodded. “I promise I will.”

A month had passed since everything that had gone down at the party. Fae had convinced her parents to kick out Artemis and Apollo after some intense arguing, and she was sure they had gone to stay with Matt. But she didn’t care where they went. She walked into the pharmacy, slowly making her way down the aisles until she found it. She stopped, staring up at the row of pregnancy tests. She felt like she was going to puke. How could she have let herself get into this situation? She was so dumb. She hesitated for a few moments before she reached up and grabbed a box, unsure if she should get more than one. She shook her head, just taking the one and heading up to the front counter, praying that nobody from school was working today.

Matt woke up early, yawning softly. He climbed out of bed, walking to the bathroom to take a quick piss before going down the hall. He stopped at the guest room, reaching down and grabbing the doorknob. He slowly turned it, pushing the door open quietly. He looked at Artemis and Apollo, who were sharing the bed in the guest room. They were laying awfully close to each other, and it made Matt jealous. He wanted to go in there and tell Apollo to get the fuck away from Artemis. But he resisted the urge, figuring he’d ask Artemis about it later when she was awake. He shut the door quietly and went downstairs, deciding to make breakfast.
