"I always threaten that but so far I've never had to use it," Kaitlyn said. "And I definitely don't think I'll need to this time." She added this with a sideways glance to Bree, who blushed a little at her friend's words. She gave Kaitlyn's knee a shove, which only caused the blonde to laugh. Usually she was the one embarrassed, so it was always a nice change when she was able to do the same to Bree. But joking around with Bree gave Zacky the perfect opportunity to reach over and snatch one of Kaitlyn's nachos, which earned a glare from her.

"Because you know it could be your last meal?" Kaitlyn offered, answering Zacky's question. She tucked her nachos a bit closer to her body, covering them protectively with her arm. "Hands off the food, mister," she said. "You've got your own!"

"Yeah, but Zacky has a habit of taking things that aren't his," Brian interjected helpfully. He reached over to pat his friend's stomach. "Food especially."

Zacky turned to fix Brian with a hard glare when the man made his little comment. It was the unspoken part that made him tense because wasn't Brian supposed to be on his side here? He was in on the little bet that Zacky had going on with his friends, what help was his comment supposed to be? If anything, he thought it was going to hurt his chances and make his fight that much harder than it needed to be. In the back of his mind, Zacky wasn't doing any of this to hurt Kaitlyn but if this didn't end carefully, she would end up hurt. But at least he'd win his bet and that was all that really mattered to him at the moment.

"Don't be a dick. You're just jealous because people like me more," Zacky snapped, with a bit more heat than he had originally intended. He turned away from Brian, glaring at the game in front of them in silence. He was admittedly more frustrated over Brian's comment than he probably needed to be but then he'd realized that he might be able to play Kaitlyn's emotions a bit.

He stood when he was finished eating, nodding toward the bottom of the bleachers. "I'm going to the bathroom. I'll be back in a minute," he muttered, turning wordlessly as he started toward the stairs. He sniffed, his brows pulled together as he tossed his garbage away once he passed a garbage can before disappearing out of sight.

At first, Kaitlyn laughed at Brian's comment to Zacky. To her, it seemed like playful teasing between friends, but Zacky's reaction told her otherwise. Zacky and Brian seemed like the type of friends to give each other shit all the time and so Zacky's harsh reaction to Brian's comment told her this was something he might actually be a little sensitive about. And the sniffle and body language as he excused himself to the bathroom only confirmed this theory.

"God, what crawled up his ass?" Brian mumbled. "It was a fucking joke, Jesus."

"I think you hurt his feelings," Bree replied, giggling a little. She glanced over at Kaitlyn, obviously noticing the pensive look on her face. "You should go check on him, Kait. See if he's okay."

"I'm sure he's fine," Kaitlyn said, although her tone of voice said the opposite. Bree gave her a skeptical look and Kaitlyn sighed. "Alright fine, I'll go check on him." Pushing to her feet, she headed to the bathrooms at the bottom of the bleachers. She lingered outside the men's room until she spotted Zacky coming out. "Hey, I uh, I just wanted to come check and make sure you were okay," she said. "You seemed a little upset about what Brian said."

Zacky was debating on just going home. He was sure that Kaitlyn could find a ride home and Brian could figure his own shit out. It seemed like Bree had a connection to Brian so he was sure that Brian wouldn't leave Bree. Besides, they were at a football game surrounded by their school. Even if Brian would struggle a bit, they would all end up getting home. With a friend or calling their parents. Zacky huffed at the thought as he stepped out of the bathroom, looking up to Kaitlyn when she approached him.

"Brian's just being an asshole. Sometimes I get sick of it. S'all," Zacky said with a shrug of his shoulders. He was trying to play it off like he wasn't nearly as bothered as he seemed, which was a bold-faced lie but he didn't want Kaitlyn starting to think he was weak or pathetic. That would have crushed him.

Zacky forced a smile to his face, glancing around for a moment before his attention turned back to Kaitlyn. "Let's get outta here. What do you say? We can head to the beach. Maybe go to the pier. It'll be deserted since the game's going. We won't have to wait for nothing!"

"I mean, if you're sure," Kaitlyn said. A small part of her didn't quite believe Zacky as he brushed off Brian's comment but she wasn't going to pry. It wasn't her place. If Zacky was truly upset and wanted to talk to her about it, then he would. Now that she'd done her job of making sure Zacky was okay, Kaitlyn was ready to suggest that they head back to the bleachers - and to Brian and Bree - but before she could say a word, Zacky was speaking, suggesting a trip to the pier. "Uh, I don't know if that's a good idea..." Kaitlyn started her words trailing off as the sounds of the halftime announcement drifted over from the loudspeakers.

She was worried that Michael would be mad to hear that she'd missed the rest of his game but would he even notice? He was a star player, he would likely be far too focused on the game to notice her absence. And if he did, she could always make up some excuse that she wasn't feeling well and had to leave. She was sure Bree would be more than happy to corroborate her story. But should she really be convincing herself to sneak away with a boy who wasn't her boyfriend? Nevermind that Michael wasn't even technically her boyfriend. But Zacky was her friend, at least sort of, and she was the kind of person who helped her friends when they needed her.

"Actually, you know what...let's go," Kaitlyn said quickly. "It's been awhile since I've been to the pier, it'll be nice to go when it's not so crowded. Just let me text Bree and let her know I'm leaving."
