Augustus looked at her, "Things would be easier if the council listened to me," he said softly. He moved towards her father, "have they at least finished their little project in the basement of the church?" he asked referring to their attempts to make it big enough to fit all the villagers. He smiled softly at Ada, "I have been trying to protect everyone, but the council doesn't approve of the methods I have to employ to do it alone," he added

Ada let out another sigh of disappointment and nodded her head.

Andrew glanced up hearing Augustus trying to make it seem like he hadn't been listening to the conversation. He gave a gruff cough before saying, "Not quite. We ran into a couple of setbacks." He murmured knowing that their main builder had gotten attacked and was missing at the moment.

Ada saw Augustus smile and shook her head lightly. "That's not what I meant." She looked away again thinking to herself.

Augustus nodded at Andrew, "I heard, and I am sorry, my aid in the construction is available, but you know I'd have to be invited in, consider it, but I understand if the council is uncomfortable," he said lightly. After all the Church was the only building in town that the Redfangs still had never been invited into. Although, they still asked permission before entering anyone's home in town, it was only polite.

He looked at Ada, "This conversation is difficult, and troubles me, I know our presence here, is one factor for why this attack is so bad, but you guys have no idea how bad things could be," he said. He looked around, "If the council wants perspective on how bad these younglings can be, Andrew, they are welcome to come to the manor there is something that might help them understand," he added.

Andrew shook his head, "That's a holy place and things of the darkness should not be in there." He told him stubbornly. "Evil should not be invited in God's house." He said glaring a little at him before turning around.

Ada frowned hearing her father shaking her head before saying to Augustus, "It pains you? There are people dead and dying. How can you say such things?" She demanded shaking her head. "Just because it's not as bad as it could be, doesn't mean it's not terrible." She snapped at him taking a step back.

Andrew looked up at him, "You would have to speak to them yourself. Ada, come on home tonight. You don't need to see such things." He touched his daughter's arm.

Ada looked up at her father before saying, "Papa, I already told Augustus I would visit him. Besides, he won't show me, not since you're saying you don't want me to see." She glanced back at Augustus wondering if that was indeed the truth.

Augustus nodded, "I agree that darkness shouldn't be invited in, but we differ in our perspectives as to what darkness is, I do not see myself as Evil, but I understand, and respect the councils stance on it," he said lightly.

He looked clearly upset, "It seems every time we come back, the town has forgotten us, forgotten that often we raised you or your parents, watched over the village, and protected your families, every villager who dies is related to someone we either raised, treated or delivered," he said plainly.

He looked at Andrew, "You forget, I'm not just a vampire, I'm a trained soldier, a medic, a doctor, a tactician, and many other things," he said softly. He looked at Ada, "I have no intention to show you, what the council needs to see, not unless you ask to see it, it wouldn't be gentlemanly," he said lightly.

Andrew just gave a gruff nod.

Ada frowned shaking her head, "That's not fair. Vampires don't die. Humans do." She shot back. "You can't expect someone you've never met to feel at ease around you and trust you. That's not logical. Just because you protected their parents doesn't mean they're under a contract to automatically trust and abide to you." She replied shaking her head. "That's not fair." She pulled away from him to look at her father who was starting to speak when Augustus did.

"No, I would not like to see. The sight of blood makes me feel ill." She admitted turning away.

Augustus nodded, "I never expect it, but It does hurt, to come home and be hated," he said softly. He pulled his coat tighter, "It makes me sick too, at least you don't need it to survive," he said lightly to her. "War is hell, Andrew, I pray you don't ever experience it," he said. He moved to the door, "I am sorry for assuming I still had a home to come back to," he commented before leaving the shop.

Ada sighed shaking her head, "I understand that, but you can't get upset at everyone for not knowing you, and that's exactly what you're doing." She told him matter-of-factly. She didn't care about watching her words anymore. She was tired of it. Hearing his last words, she couldn't help herself but go out and catch his arm. "Hey!" She called. "That's not fair, either. You were gone for years. Papa said I was a child when you left. A small one at that, which means it's been over a decade. At least some people recognized you. But you can't get hurt when the people that knew you are old or gone already. It may be lonely, but at least you're not completely alone. So, I don't appreciate the whole self depricating and pity me crap." She told him letting go of his arm. It was the first time she had touched him by herself. "I don't know what's gotten into you today." She sighed. "But i'm not going to deal with it. So tell me if you're going to be okay for me to see later." She told him turning her blue eyes up to look at his.

Augustus looked at her, "A decade isn't long enough for the village to forget why I left, especially the council," he commented lightly. He sighed softly, "I'm used to people dying at this point, and that doesn't hurt me," he said softly. He looked at Andrew, "It's fine to be scared of monsters, but it hurts that people see me as one, after all I've done," he said calmly.

He stepped back for Ada, "The pile of younglings wasn't the most tasteful approach, but that was just the beginning of your problem, trust me it wasn't easy hunting them all either," he said. He looked down, "If you want to come by, feel free, but don't feel obligated," he said calmly.

"Well, maybe that's your problem. That people dying doesn't hurt you. What if I died?" She asked him shaking her head. "I hope you'd at least care." She shook her head hearing his words. "THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING US! Is that what you wanted, Augustus? A thank you? Then ask for it. You don't have to sit here whining when you can speak and do actions." Hearing his next words, she looked up. "I don't feel obligated." She turned away going inside and closing the door.

Andrew frowned hearing Ada and shook his head with a sigh. "I'm not saying she's correct one hundred percent, but she has a point. You're taking it out on her and putting it all on her. She just defended you to me, as well. She told me you weren't a monster." He then went inside. "The council will come see them tonight." He then went inside going to calm his daughter down.

Augustus sighed, "Tell her I didn't mean her, and I'm sorry," he said lightly. He looked at Andrew, "to be honest I might be one now, the war changed me, as you may have noticed, I used to be happier," he said. He began to untie his cloak, and moved towards the forest.

"Tell her yourself. Be a man." Andrew replied glaring a little. "I'm warning you, if you hurt her, I'll kill you." He told him. "Maybe if you listened to Ada, you'd be happier." HE pointed out before going inside. Once there, he rubbed Ada's back as she was mad and just profusely putting things up.

Ada didn't want to speak and wasn't even sure if she was going to see him that night as she was mad and he hadn't even said anything good about the villagers. She shook her head again and just put things up. She was going to get flowers later. Maybe that would cheer her up.

Augustus reached the edge of the forest, where she usually picked flowers. He carefully removed his cloak, and overwear, before hanging them over a tree. He was mad, and needed to calm down, but was still worried about the village. He stretched out, before moving to rub at his leg gently, and then his arm. Large, bandages were wrapped around them, wounds, from the previous time Augustus headed out for younglings.

It was part of his point, why he was so worried and agitated by the council not listening to his advice. He had been trained to hunt them, been doing it for centuries, and yet, last time he almost didn't make it back.

Ada waited awhile before grabbing her basket, putting on her cloak, as well as her hood over her head. She started for the forest going slowly as she didn't feel the need to hasten. She understood what he had been saying, but he was so stubborn and didn't want to listen to anyone else. Just because he was a few centuries old, he didn't know anything about feelings it seemed like. She snorted to herself shaking her head with a sigh.

She didn't realize how loud she was being as she made it into the clearing looking around for some flowers. She stopped in her tracks seeing a shadow ahead of her, not realizing it was Augustus and beginning to get scared. She started to back up but stepped on a twig hearing it snap loudly.

Augustus heard the twig snap, and wheeled around, his blade effortlessly being drawn. He relaxed seeing Ada. "Oh sorry, it's just me Ada," he said softly. He lowered his weapon and stepped to the side reaching for his overcoat. He didn't want her to see his wounds, and also wanted to cover up somewhat for her, considering his armor was designed for freedom of movement and protection of only the parts that mattered for a vampire.

He watched her, "I'm sorry, Ada for earlier," he said lightly

Ada let out a small screech when he came towards her, before gasping hearing him and falling onto her knees a little. "God." She breathed shaking her head and then composing herself. By the time she rose to her feet, he had his overcoat back on. She touched her face to try and calm her flushed cheeks. "God you scared me!" She told him beginning to walk over.

She was beginning to relax knowing it was just Augustus before hearing him looking up. "It's just difficult to understand you sometimes." She admitted before crouching down and beginning to pick some flowers. "I'm sorry for what I said, too. It wasn't nice." She murmured hair falling in her face.

Augustus nodded, "Some perspective might help, the last time I left, was to hunt down another vampire," he said lightly. He looked at her, "our family had been in the village for twenty years at that point, another vampire came into town and we didn't know," he said. He smiled softly, "we had been asked to keep out of village affairs, and that if they needed our skills they'd ask, and we obliged," he said. He moved around pacing, "so a stranger came to the village, a vampire, at first it was just one person that went missing, then after a week it was up to four," he said. The council at the time, came to see us after four years of keeping out of things, so we were intrigued," he said.

He moved over to her, "if they had of asked, it wouldn't of hurt as much, but they started by accusing us, not even considering the new stranger" he said. He swallowed loudly, "but it took us half a day to work it out, the new guy was a vampire, and instead of letting us deal with it, the council tried to catch him themselves," he said. He turned to her, "we know vampires, their nature, he would come back, and keep feeding off the village, so I volunteered to track him, he made it to Italy," he said. "I killed him, so he would leave the village alone," he said. "For slaying the creation of a general, in Italy, I knew it would mean years of service, a decade if I turned myself in, a century if they had to track me down," he said.

"Being a soldier for the vampires in Italy, it was torture for me, but to stop him, for the safety of my home, I tore him limb from limb, and ripped his head off with my bare hands," he said lightly. "It was the least horrific thing I would have to do in the next decade," he added

Ada frowned and sighed listening to him feeling ill at the thought. She then murmured, "I don't what to say other than don't hold it in. Maybe I won't understand, but I definintely won't if you don't tell me." She looked up at him before frowning again before starting to pick flowers again. "I'm not saying it's not a thankless job, but I'm saying, you can't blame them for this. Is it right? No, but you aren't going to change their minds by willpower alone." She told him before catching sight of a bandage on his arm as his arm of his cloak had ridden up. She grabbed it before she could think about what she was doing.

"What's this?" She asked with a frown pausing seeing blood on the bandage. "What happened?" She demanded hands trembling as she let go.

Augustus watched her softly, "I don't blame them for what happened, but I do blame them for not listening to us, and for accusing us," he said softly, "but I suppose it is a different council now," he conceded. He stepped back after she let go, "Youngling's aren't the best tacticians, but they are stronger than me, especially if they've fed," he said matter of factually. "It's why I need support, the last lot almost got me," he said calmly.

He pulled his cloak down again, "but you shouldn't worry about that," he said softly.

Ada frowned listening to him sighing. "I'm not saying I condone what they did, but they should have asked first instead of immediately assuming it was you." She murmured running a hand through her hair. Watching him, she frowned again collecting the rest of her flowers. "It needs to be rebandaged." She told him. "It's not fair to make you do it on your own. Your family should help, so should the villagers, but we're kind of useless." She admitted sighing again. Hearing him say she shouldn't worry about it. "Well, I will so hush." She turned around and started to walk again.
