Matt looked at her, "Fuck. come here." He said, looking at her. "I need you to take over for a little bit." He said.

Abby nodded then went and got him a drink. She came back and helped him then sat near him. "Do you want me to get you a blanket?" She asked.

Natalie raised an eyebrow, "M-Me? Did you not just hear how they talked to me? I can't take over." She looked down at him with wide eyes. No one was going to listen to her.

Brian shook his head, "No, no- I feel like I'm on fire." He gasped and arched his back a little, trying to move ever so slightly to get comfortable.

Matt looked at her, "I'll tell then your in charge for now with Abby." He explained. "They have to do what I say." He explained to her.

Abby watched him, "What do you want me to do?" She asked him. She just wanted to do something to help him. She could only imagine the pain he was in.

Natalie frowned, not wanting to push it with him, even though she knew this was a terrible idea. Either he was going to end up pissed off at her for something she decides to do or his pack was going to be pissed off. Natalie just sighed and held his hand tightly in hers, "Can I get you anything?"

Brian was positive there was nothing she could do, that all he could do was to just push through it and try to endure the stinging pain he felt all over his body. He raised his hands up towards the water she had brought him, "Help me drink-" He gasped weakly.

Matt exhaled slowly, trying to fight the searing pain in his body. He shook his head, "I think I'm going to try to rest." He whispered as he closed his eyes.

Abby nodded then helped him take a drink. She felt awful that he was in so much pain. She was glad that he was alive though.

Natalie couldn't pry the frown off her face as hard as she tried to. She watched Matt try to relax on the couch, squirming because it was damn near impossible. "Okay." She whispered, not wanting to annoy him any further. She just couldn't ignore how her wolf seemed to be tearing herself apart inside, knowing that there was nothing she could do to help him. She should've been there to protect him. It was also important to ignore her wolf wanting to better their relationship, as much as she wanted to. "Get some rest." She nodded and headed to the door, grabbing her jacket and sliding it on. She looked over her shoulder at him and he already looked like he was out like a light.

Nat opened the door and headed to Brian's, wanting to talk to Abby about what Matt told her. She didn't know how they were going to run things while the boys were bed bound. Matt had kept her hidden away the whole time she had been here, she had only been to one town meeting, and she hadn't formally met anyone here. The town would never listen to them. They would be lucky if they weren't murdered while the town could pull it off. She knocked on Brian's door and looked through the small glass panes, seeing Abby with him on the couch. She opened the door and stepped inside, running a hand through her hair, "How's Brian doing?"

Brian sighed in relief when the water filled his mouth, finally feeling like he could breath without his throat turning to sand. He dropped his hands down from the sides of the cup as Abby pulled it away. They dropped onto her lap and squeezed her gently, with as much energy he could exert. He looked towards the door when he heard a knock and could see Natalie through the door. He looked up at Abby and stroked his thumb against the fabric of her jeans. "I'm going to get some sleep, see if I can regain some energy."

He pulled his hands away from her gently, gripping the blanket off of the back of the couch and pulling it over him. He laid still on his back and just shut his eyes, hearing Natalie let herself in, asking about his well-being. It wasn't hard for him to ignore their voices and slip into unconsciousness.

Abby looked at Brian when he said that he was going to try to get some rest. She covered him up better, "Okay." She replied as she leaned down and kissed his forehead, feeling his hand grip her thigh once more. She pulled away then looked at Natalie, "He's....okay." She said as she walked with her to the kitchen. "Nat, I feel so bad." She admitted as she glanced in and seen Brian sleeping. "He's in a lot of pain." She said. She looked at her, noticing her friend was in deep thought, "What's wrong?" She asked her. She was surprised when she said that Matt wanted them to run things. "Um...that could either be really good or really really bad." She said. "You got any ideas?" She asked her.

Natalie shook her head and couldn't stop playing with her hands. "Not a clue. You know the moment we go to talk to them and tell them what's happened, they're not just going to just accept us as temporary leaders." She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. Natalie felt like this was really dangerous, the town didn't want them here, and who knows how far they would go to get rid of them? This would be their chance to do just that.

"Doesn't Brian or Matt know anyone else in their pack they're close enough to? Isn't their anyone else that can do this?" She sighed.

Abby shrugged, "I don't think so. I haven't really talked to Brian about that. I don't even think he knows that Matt has technically put us in charge. Honestly, I don't see this going well because everyone hates us." She said as she watched her friend. "We need to figure something out though. We can't just let the pack do what they want." She said. Abby bit her bottom lip lightly as she thought about it. "Any idea on how to tell them what is going on? Maybe we can arrange something and tell them we are giving them an update on the guys then break the news to them." She suggested. She was really worried about how all of it was going to turn out. She didn't want to get killed because Matt thought that Natalie should run things with her. She didn't know what Brian would think of that either. Abby ran her fingers through her hair, "Maybe I should ask Brian what he thinks when he wakes up." She muttered.

Natalie just chewed nervously on her lip, until it was raw. "This is dangerous. We're in danger." Natalie paced around, looking down at the floor. The moment the pack knew Matt and Brian were incapable of leading, there would be a riot. "No one is going to listen to a word we saw, Abby." Natalie turned to her friend and finally looking up from the floor. "We're going to be god damn lucky if they don't murder us!"

Abby frowned, "Nat, we will figure this out. Go ask Matt what he thinks you should do. This pack doesnt completely disrespect their alpha so maybe it will be different because he is hurt." She said. "I will see what Brian has to say." She said. She watched as Natalie left then sighed as she looked at Brian sleeping on the couch. She walked over to him and knelt on the floor next to him, running her fingers through his hair. When his eyes opened she looked at him, "Can I ask you something?" She asked as she played with his hair.

Brian opened his eyes sleepily when he felt Abby's fingers running through his hair. It hadn't been that long, had it? He was sure Natalie had only stayed about five minutes, but he felt like he had been asleep for much, much longer. He raised his eyebrows up to try and hold his eyes open as he looked up at Abby, "Yeah-" He groaned, his words slurred from the pain. "What is it?" He slowly rose his hand up to rest on Abby's thigh.

Natalie zipped her jacket up and pulled the hood over her head when she stepped out Abby's house and started to head back to Matt's. She felt her stomach twisting up in knots, getting a little more nervous with every step she took. When she stepped through the front door, she pulled her jacket and boots off, leaving them by the door. Nat went over and took a seat on the floor next to the couch. She rested against it, letting her head lay against Matt's arm. She sighed and shut her eyes, trying to relax for just a minute.

Abby felt his hand on her thigh, "Matt wants Natalie and me to take over for you guys now and she is freaking out." She explained. "Do you think that is a good idea?" She asked. She didnt want to keep him awake too long but she was hoping he could help her.

Matt opened his eyes when he felt her against him. "What's wrong?" He muttered as he moved a little, groaning. He frowned as she spoke, "Do me a favor? Gather the guys and have them come here." He said. He gave her the names of the guys that were really listened to what he had to say and supported the decisions.

Brian frowned as he slowly opened his eyes. That wasn't exactly what he had been hoping to hear. "You and Natalie?" He asked, slowly bringing his hand up to his face to pinch the bridge of his nose. "No, I don't think it's a good idea-" He started, "But what other option do we have?" He sighed and let his hand fall back down onto his chest. "That's what's supposed to happen. Leader of the pack gets hurt, his mate takes over." He shrugged, "If anyone else takes over, it's a sign of weakness- and if another man decides to take the lead while Matt is sick, why would he step back down when Matt is well again? It'd be a huge fight." He sighed.

Natalie really was beginning to wish that Matt had never kept her cooped up in his house, because now that he was actually wanting to her to go and get some of the men in town for him, her stomach felt like it was twisting up into knots. This whole time he had told her to stay inside, that any of the people in his pack would jump at the chance to kill her, and now it was just, 'take over the whole pack for me and go bring me these big strong werewolf men.'

"Okay." She whispered, forcing herself to get back up from where she sat.

Abby frowned as he spoke, "I think that usually the pack doesnt want to kill the alpha's mate, so this is a very bad idea." She told her. She relaxed with him and didnt say anything for a moment, "Do you need anything?" She asked him.

Matt watched her leave and sighed.

Calvin stood with the small group and noticed Natalie coming towards them. He crossed his arms as he watched her with his bright blue eyes. "What do you want?" He asked.

Brian understood what Abby was saying, but... “I know she’s your friend, but no offense, Matt would probably rather risk her being killed, rather than him risk losing his status as alpha.” He tried to sit up, but a searing pain went rippling through his side. “Ah-“ he groaned and just laid back down. “I’m fine.” He sighed. He felt helpless.

Natalie frowned and just slid her hands into her back pockets, trying to hide how terrified she was. “Matt needs you.” She said, pulling her hands up to cross her arms over her chest. “Now.”

Abby was surprised when he said that, but she believed it. "Dont try to get up." She said as she watched him lay back. "Did you want something to drink?" She asked him.

Calvin watched her, looking at the four guys with him. "Alright." He said before he began to walk with her.

Brian didn’t like having to be coddled like a baby. He wanted to do things for himself. He sighed and tried to relax, “Yes, water please.” He sighed and closed his eyes.

Natalie frowned, turning around on her heel. She chewed on the inside of her lip and led the man back to Matt’s house. It was awkwardly silent.

Abby got him some water then walked to him. She gave him the water, letting him drink it. She hated to see him in so much pain.

Matt looked over as the guys came in. He explained that he needed them to back up Natalie. He was surprised when they didnt fight him on it.

Brian frowned and tried to hold the glass himself. “I don’t like the idea of you helping her.” He said. He knew how his pack would react and at the moment, he couldn’t protect her.

Natalie frowned and watched the men agree to help, but something didn’t feel right in her stomach. Why would they agree so easily?
