A Wolfs Mate

As soon as Raelynn felt James arms wrapping around her, she wanted nothing more than to stay like that. In his arms, feeling protected. Closing her eyes, Raelynn breathed in her mates' scent, a small smile playing along her lips at how comfortable she felt. A couple of weeks ago, Rae would have told everyone to fuck off because she would never accept this kidnapper as her mate, but here she was. Curled up in his arms on the couch.

"Hmm, I just explored the packing area. I bought some new bath bombs and soaps that smelled good." Rae told him, hiding the fact that she also went to the medic to see if what she was noticing was correct, and it was.

A small yawn escaped from Raelynn as she tightened her hold on James a bit more. Her head shifting down a little bit as she nuzzled his chest. "Yeah, but I'm comfy laying against you." She mumbled quietly, not wanting to get up. "How was your patrol?" Rae asked quietly as she closed her eyes and breathed in her mates' scent. Her whole body relaxing at the mere scent of him and with the feel of his body against hers, it felt like nothing could ruin Rae's mood.

Staying curled up on the couch for a few more moments, Rae finally decided to get up when her stomach grumbled. "Mmm, I guess we should go out for our picnic now. Before my stomach makes any more complaints." She murmured as she slowly moved to let go of James. "Can you grab us a blanket to sit on?" She asked James as she didn't feel like going upstairs and getting it, plus she needed to hide the ultrasound pictures in the basket.

James let out a low hum as she mentioned the bath bombs and the soaps. He supposed that could explain the smell but for some reason, it did not quite fit right to him. Maybe there was something in the soap specifically that was driving his nose a little while. Well, at least if that was the case, James knew he the smell would be gone soon enough. Probably as quickly as the moment they started running through the woods, once Rae really started sweating.

"Patrol went well. We didn't find anything strange today. Though I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. We are still trying to figure out where those straw homemade dolls came from but I guess maybe it was just the teenagers from the town." James let out a sigh at the thought. Normally, they were easy to smell out if they were behind something but every once in awhile those humans were able to accidentally mask their scent. James was rather sure they were behind a lot of the strange things that they found while on patrol.

He gave her a nod before sliding from Rae and getting up onto his feet. "I will be right back." With that, James got up and made his way upstairs towards their bedroom. Once there, he went into the closet and pulled out a plaid picnic blanket before making his way back downstairs. When James was by her side again, he offered her the blanket to put into the basket.

"Do you want me to carry the basket when we are running?" James offered as he held out his hand. He was expecting Rae to hand it over.

As soon as James had gone up the stairs, Rae was up like a rocket and tiptoed towards the picnic basket. Kneeling, Rae pulled the black and white photo out of her back pocket and slid it into the basket, right under the first wrapped sandwich that she had prepared for their lunch today.

Then, just as she heard James footsteps as he came downstairs, Rae stood up and crossed her arms behind her back innocently. "Thank you." She said as she accepted the blanket from him and slid it into the basket so that it'll be easy for them to carry everything when they shift and start their run.

"Hmm, what a gentleman," Raelynn said in a teasing tone as she picked up the basket and handed it to him. A thankful look was on her face as he accepted the basket, then she twirled around towards the door. "Let's go! I want to find a nice spot in the shade before the sun gets too high." She said as she pushed open the front door for them. Stepping onto the porch, Rae's eyes closed as she breathed in a gust of wind. It was getting a tiny bit cooler outside now that fall was around the corner, but they've been lucky with sunny days lately.

Stepping to the side, Rae held the door open for James before closing the door behind him. "Which way should we go?" Raelynn asked as she looked towards her side towards her mate. "We went that way before, should we go that way again since I've been there before? Or, can I explore that area?" Rae asked as she looked in the direction of the forest that she had yet to explore.

"Well you are welcome, my lady." James told her with a cheeky smile on his face. As she started to head to the door, James followed her, moving a bit slowly as he did so. The man felt relaxed, knowing what would be ahead of them. A nice long run, some lunch and a leisurely run back. It was going to be a good afternoon. Though, as Rae started to speak, his head lifted up and he let out a low chuckle. "A nice shady, breezy spot." He agreed.

Once they were both on the porch, James stretched out a bit. He gave her a small shrug as she asked which way they should go. In truth, James was not overly concerned as to which direction they ran to. Their home was almost in the middle of their territory. They could go in any direction. Besides, James would let her led if she wanted to. This was just a chance for them both to run together.

"We can go in any direction that you desire. We just need to make sure we do not get close to the border but I will lead you away from there if we get close." James reassured her. Once Rae had an idea of which direction she wanted to go, James shifted into his wolf form. He then took the basket into his mouth before running off with Rae, following her in the direction that she wished.

Up to the north, it was an uphill run as they would be starting up the mountain. Everything else around them was the forest, or heading towards the town. Though there was a pretty decently sized rice that ran down the mountain to the east of their home.

Wrinkling her nose at James reply, Raelynn stood still for a moment more before she decided where she wanted to go. So, without saying anything more to her mate, Rae started to head towards the direction that she hadn't explored yet. Shifting into her wolf form, Rae felt more alive and energetic and couldn't help but to break out into a run.

The soft breeze felt amazing as it blew through her fur. Keeping her nice and cool as she traveled through the forest. Her paws digging into the dirt as a way to keep her steady as she ran. Allowing her to have more traction and not slip and hurt herself as well. Casting a small glance behind herself, Rae made sure that James was still near. Even though she could easily smell him, she still wanted to make sure that he was following her.

After a few moments of running, Raelynn slowed her pace and turned towards James. She offered him a small play bow before moving to playfully nip at his right shoulder before she turned and started to run away from him. Her tail wagging as she did so, her calm mood changing to one of excitement as she tried to get her mate to play around with her a little bit.

Then, after a little while longer, Rae came to a halt and shifted into her human form as they stumbled into a beautiful clearing that had a large number of flowers blooming. A good place to cover her changing scent from her mate. A tired sigh escaped from Rae as she placed her hands on her hips and looked around at the beautiful clearing. "Oh, wow." She breathed out quietly, panting a little bit as she tried to catch her breath. "Look at this place." She exclaimed excitedly as she looked at all of the different types of flowers there were.

Truth be told, Raelynn had asked her guard where a beautiful place for a picnic would be near her. An thankfully, they suggested this place and gave her a few landmarks to go off of. "Can we have a picnic here?" Raelynn asked as she turned around to look at her mate.

As Rae started to nip him, James was quick to run after Rae and lightly bump into her with his body. Unfortunately, he could not nip her like he wanted to do to the fact that he was holding the basket in his mouth. Though he would make sure to return the favor later.

Once they stumbled their way into the clearing, James set the picnic basket down before shifting back into his human form. James looked around the field for a moment before giving Rae a nod. "Yes, this would be a good place for a picnic." He agreed as he walked over to her. James pressed a kiss against her forehead before stepping away and looking around for a place to sit.

There were plenty of options for them, of course, but James was often particular about where they sat. He didn't want to disturb the natural habitat to much as he wanted to keep their territory in the best condition possible. Once James found a decent spot, he pulled out the blanket and spread it out against the ground. "This should do." He said as he stretched the blanket out completely.

The man then took the basket and set it down on the edge of the blanket before sitting down and looking up at Rae. A warm smile coming over his face as he looked at her before patting the spot next to him. "Come sit down, love," He said warmly. "Tell me, what did you make for us today?"

A small hum escaped from Raelynn as James pecked her on the forehead. A warm feeling of pride filling her chest at the small bit of affection. Before being kidnapped, Rae would have thought the idea of being pleased by something so small stupid, but. Her wolf loved it and it was hard to fight what the animal inside of her wanted, and the man stretched out a blanket for them was what it wanted. Even if it was by force.

Moving towards her mate, Raelynn sat down next to him. Making sure to lightly bump his shoulder with hers in a teasing manner as she did so. "Well, I didn't make us anything to fancy." She told him as she leaned forward and opened the basket up. "I made us some sandwiches, pasta salad and I cut up some fresh fruit." She said as she handed him a plate and then set the sandwich that was wrapped up with her ultrasound under neith on a plate and handed it to him to open. Then, she placed the containers for the pasta salad and fruit out so that they could help themselves.

"OH!" Raelynn said as she almost forgot. "I brought us some fresh lemonade that I picked up while in town." She said as she picked out the cute little glasses that the drink was secure in. "I had a glass earlier, it's sour but it hits the spot with this heat," Rae explained as she looked towards James, offering him a small smile.

"Well, don't wait for me. Dig in, you've been out all morning running." Raelynn said, encouraging James to open his sandwiches bag so that he could find her little surprise for him. The fact that she was pregnant was slowly sinking in, and as soon as James would say the word, Rae was pretty sure she'd feel gitty at the fact.

Taking the plate from her, James gave her a small thankful nod. He then set the plate down on the blanket and started to serve himself some of the other food that they had brought along. "Lemonade?" James said as he glanced up at the glasses. "That sounds good." He said as he took the glass from her and set it down in front of his plate as well.

Now that James was satisfied with the meal in front of him, he started to dig in. He took a few bites of the pasta salad and the fruit before taking a drink of the lemonade. "This is really delicious, love." Then James reached out and took the wrapped-up sandwich. As he pulled the wrap off, he noticed that there seemed to be a large thing of some type of paper within the wrapping. The man looked a bit confused as he pulled it out to take a look.

As James looked at the plastic papery thing, his eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. Though, after a few long seconds, realization moved over his face an enormous smile followed. Without hesitation, James was on top of Rae, now having her slightly pinned down underneath him. He moved down to her stomach, lifting her shirt up slightly as he pressed his nose into her skin, taking in a deep breath. The smell was all James needed to confirm what he thought was going on. He hadn't been able to identify earlier but now that he knew what was going on, it slammed him in the face.

James popped up from her stomach, smiling brightly down at Rae. If he was in his wolf form, his tail would be wagging and his ears would be perked up. "You're pregnant!" James exclaimed as he leaned down and pressed a deep loving kiss against her lips. He held onto her face, his thumbs lightly running along her cheeks. "I love you so much Rae." James murmured into her lips.

A couple of small smiles were the only responses that Raelynn could give to James as she waited for him to look at the ultrasound pictures. She was so nervous, she felt like she was ready to just blurt everything out to him and make the news known to the whole pack by shouting. YES, SHE WAS PREGNANT, but she couldn't do that. No, her mate needed to find out, and she just had to make a cute little picnic feast for them. She had to make things difficult for her.

Reaching out, Raelynn took a few sips of the sour yet sweet lemonade as James got to work on his food. She'd keep glancing at him, waiting for him to open the sandwich to find the picture, but he kept avoiding it! He kept eating the fruit and the pasta salad, and the fact he was wasting time was making Rae want to pull her hair out of her head. An she was about to as well until she noticed he was finally opening that damn sandwich.

Placing her drink down, Rae slowly turned towards her mate. Ready to accept his excited hug, kiss, or him touching her not yet swollen belly that contained the life that he had put inside of her. What she didn't expect though, was to be pushed back and having her shirt pulled up. A small squeak escaped from Rae, followed by a small smack on his shoulder as she felt his nose digging into her bare belly. "Just because we're alone here, doesn't mean you can undress me here!" She seethed before letting out a small sigh at his statement. It was hard to be mad when he showed how excited he was.

"I am," Raelynn mumbled quietly against James' lips after kissing him back. A small smile playing across her lips. Slowly, Raelynn placed her hands on James' chest and pushed him up slightly so that she could speak properly. "I take it you're excited?" She asked quietly, a small smile playing on her lips. "We're going to be parents."

"Excited? More like over the moon." James told her, the smile on his face almost too large for him to handle. Despite the fact that Rae pushed him back slightly, he was quick to move back down and press another few kisses along her face. He was beyond joyful that Rae was pregnant, that they were going to be parents soon. This was everything that James had hoped for when he stole Rae away and made her his. A lovely mate and a strong alpha family.

"We are going to be parents," James repeated after her before slowly sliding off of Rae's body. He was realizing now that he needed to be more careful with her now that she was pregnant. James really shouldn't have pushed her down at all but he had not be able to contain his excitement. Gently, James helped Rae back up, wanting to get her off of the ground. Though the moment that she was sitting up, James was wrapping his arms around her and pulling her into his lap, hugging her to him.

"How long have you known for?" The alpha asked her, his voice now calming down as he whispered to her. He knew that it couldn't have been for too long. After all, he only caught a whiff of her this morning when he couldn't figure out the pregnancy smell. She certainly did not smell like that for long or was able to hide it more than he realized. But James knew he was typically on top of her. It couldn't have been more than a month, at the most.

"You must have seen someone to get that ultrasound. What did they say? Everything healthy and good? How far along are you?" James asked her, wanting to get as much information as possible about their future child.

A small giggle escaped from Raelynn as she listened to James. Her eyes rolling slightly as he flung question after question at her before she could even get a word in. Her arms moved to wrap around his neck loosely as he pulled her onto his lap. "One question at a time, please," Rae interjected as James sounded like a record player constantly asking her all of these things.

Once James slowed his roll, Rae smiled slightly and allowed for a small hum to escape from her as she played with the hair at the back of his neck for a moment. A movement she's started to develop when she was thinking about something. "I've had that feeling for about two weeks now. It was faint when I realized it, and I only realized it when you were unexpectantly really late." Raelynn explained, remembering the night he stumbled upon some humans camping and had to scare them off. "You smelled like a campfire that night, and made the whole house smell like a bonfire for a few days til I got the smell out of your clothes."

Just talking to James about this whole thing was bringing a small smile to Rae's lips and she couldn't help but lean forward as she tightened her hold on her mate. Her head resting on his shoulder. "This morning, when I went to the doctor, I was told that everything was fine. It's barely the size of a bean and so far everything's perfect." Rae told him, her voice quiet as she remembered seeing the first signs of life inside of her. "It's so tiny." Her hand moved to rest on where a tiny life was forming inside of her. "I was told that I need to watch my blood pressure though because any sort of rise could upset the balance for the baby and cause it harm." Raising her head, Rae grinned as she looked her mate in the eyes. "So, you gotta do everything I say."

As Rae spoke, James kept his mouth closed and listened intently. Every word she said was extremely important to him. He just wanted to know how she was doing, and how their baby was. So as she spoke, he slowly nodded his head and his eyes stayed on hers. Though as she came in closer and relaxed her head onto his shoulder, James forced himself to calm down slightly and close his eyes. This was an important moment for the both of them and he didn't want to overwhelm her.

A light chuckle left his lips and James shook his head at her slightly. "Well, I am not sure about everything you say." He teased gently. "But you are right. I need to be more careful with you now and I promise I'll be good while your pregnant. Even when you get hormonal and mad at me for no reason." He teased her again, lightly squeezing her sides. "And we will figure something out for your blood pressure and making sure you don't get too stressed out."

Leaning forward, James pressed a light kiss against her neck. He took a moment to hug her close to him. "I love you so much, Rae." He whispered into her ear. "And I am so ecstatic about becoming a parent with you." After a long moment, his arms around her started to loosen and slid away. He leaned back, looking up at her with a warm smile. "We should get back to eating now," James said as he reached up and ran his fingers through her hair.
