As she was working on the breaker, Alice could hear the woman calling her name and making her way down the steps to the basement. Immediately, Alice tensed up. She ditched trying to fix the electrical system and went straight to Rae. A growl escaped from her chest as she grabbed onto Rae harshly by her upper arm. Despite her older age, Alice was still quite strong from all of her fighting days. "I told you not to move." Alice chastised the girl as she started to lead her back upstairs.
In truth, Alice was terrified of the idea of Rae finding her friend down in the basement. She knew that the man was there, and where he was. In a locked, soundproof room. And he was suppose to stay as far away from Rae while he was here. Alice was unsure if the girl was trying to be helpful or was trying to do what Alice was dreading, but none the less, the woman was pissed. "Do you not use your brain?" Alice growled. "It is not safe for you to roam around the house when the power is out. What would we have done if you ended up getting electrocuted? Do you know how to save someone from that because I don't. And didn't James tell you to stay on the first floor? The basement is not for you."
Once they were on the main floor, Alice stopped dead in her tracks. Her grip on Rae was still tight but it was clear that the woman did not know what to do with her. She raised her nose up, smelling the area around them. Unfortunately, she did not know if Rae was up to no good or not. There mere fact she left the living room set Alice on edge. She turned to Alice, her eyes narrowing at the woman as she tried to size her up as best as possible. "What were you doing? What were you thinking?"
Rae now had to make a decision. Either she was going to stay with Alice and sit in the dark on the main floor, or was going to lock her up in her room while trying to get the power to work again. Which one she did depended on how Rae answered. While Alice did not know the young woman very well, she knew she was a pretty good judge of whether someone was lying or not. Now, hopefully, she could find out if Rae was really just looking for light or not.
