What Are You Gonna Do?

Nova looked at the shot, then watched as he took his. She took her shot then ate the gummy shark. "That is good." She said, laughing a little. She nodded when he explained about the shop. "Well, I guess you will have to show it to me sometime. Once she returned from talking to her dad she nodded, "I can't really go without a phone. People like to talk to me." She teased him as she sat beside him again. She took a sip of her drink. When he asked about her she set her glass down.

"Well, I help my dad with his business a lot. I am still kind of learning everything about the company. I will eventually take over it when he retires." She explained to him. She really wasn't sure if she should go into explaining what her dad did. Most people got intimidated by it when she told them about it. Nova took another sip of her drink. "I am really not that interesting. I work a lot and spend my free time at my apartment." She said, laughing. "This is the first time I have gone out in a while." She said.

"It's pretty good, my brother introduced me to it when he was in college." He explained and slid the two glasses over to the bartender, before continuing with his beer. "I'd be glad to." He said and grinned. "Need any car work done? If not, we can just just give ya a wax." Orlando liked listening to Nova, her voice was sweet and just captured him as she spoke. "I'm glad you got it fixed, I was worried I wouldn't be able to message you and ask you out for a real date." He said slyly, just trying to slip it in there. He was a flirt, and he knew it. Orlando hoped being forward would not ruin his chances.

Orlando listened to Nova as she explained, nodding to show he was listening. He had heard about her father, but was not entirely sure what he did. All Orlando knew was that he was rich, powerful, and looked good to the public eye. "What does he do?" He asked and finished his drink, sliding it to the bartender. "I like a girl with some brains. And I think you are interesting, you're just hiding the interesting parts about you from me." He teased. "I'm glad you went out, we get to spend this time together."

"Honestly, I don't I have ever taken my car to a mechanic. I have people that do that for me." She admitted, laughing a little. She knew that sounded bad, but it was just something that was part of her life. She smiled when he mentioned wanting to take her out on a date. He was good at talking to women. It was clear that he had practice with this. "I think a date with you would be fun." She told him. It would definitely be different compared to what she was used to.

Nova finished off her drink when he asked what her father did. "Well, he owns a software company, but he also is involved with politics." She explained to him. "I could show you the office if you want. I have to go there after this anyway." She offered him. It really wasn't any big secret at the office. Most of the stuff her dad didn't want people to know he kept hidden in his house. Plus, Orlando didn't seem like he would be interested in any of the stuff that Nova did at the office. At least not in a wanting information way.

Orlando raised an eyebrow when she said that people did her work for her, chuckling slightly. "Well you can come visit sometime, and I'll do what your servants do." He teased. Orlando grinned when she agreed to a date with him. His smooth talking was working. "Lucky me. I'll take you to dinner sometime. we can set it up." Orlando leaned back in the chair and looked out over the dance floor. "Or we could do something more fun, dinner is casual, and not surprising. We could go do laser tag or something." He said and turned to her.

Orlando was excited to learn more about her father, maybe, he thought, he could get to her father through her. "Ahh yes, I think I've heard your name before on the news." He said, he didn't want to act stupid. She knew she was famous, she knew people would know who she was, so he didn't worry about her knowing that he knew her. "Sure, I'd love to see it. Maybe I can get more insight to you." Orlando chided as he winked at her again. "I walked here, so I can head over with you anytime." He told her and grinned. "How about we head out now? I don't want you getting home too late, it isn;t safe being out late for a cute girl such as yourself." He told her, though he did mean it. He knew the streets weren't safe. He didn't want something to happen to Nova if he wasn't around to stop it.

Nova smiled when he said that he would do what her workers down, "You might do a better job than them. I guess we will have to find out." She teased him. When he mentioned laser tag she looked at him, "Sure, we can do laser tag if you want to lose." She said, smirking a little. She had always enjoyed laser tag. He was right about dinner being too normal. She couldn't even count how many boring dinners she had with people.

She nodded, "Alright, let's go now." She said as she got to her feet. She let her friends know she was leaving before she returned to him. "Ready?" She asked. She walked out of the club with him. "It's really not that far of a walk from here." She said. She didn't mind walking since she would just get a ride home once they were done. She had ridden with her friends to the club. Once they got to the huge office building she took him around back, unlocking the back door. Nova stepped inside with him and shut off the alarm. "Follow me." She said as she led him into the building. She stepped into the elevator, hitting the button for the top floor. "How much do you know about my dad?" She asked him. She knew some people knew more than others.

"I'm the best mechanic in town, I know I can do a batter job." He said arrogantly, winking at her. Orlando was cocky, but he tried to keep it under control, so not to scare Nova away. "Oh you think you're funny?" he quipped and smirked. "I'll go easy on you though, doesn't look good to beat a girl on the first date." He teased, leaning towards Nova, "Don't worry, I'm a nice guy."

Orlando nodded and slid his card to the bartender to pay for their drinks as she informed her friends that she was leaving. He turned to watch Nova walk, smirking again to himself. She was gorgeous and he loved it, she also had money and power. SO he knew that she wouldnt like him just because of his money and power, when he decided to let her in on his true business. "Yup, lets go." He followed behind Nova as they left the club. He looked up at the building as she unlocked it, sliding inside the door behind her. His eyes wandered over everything, not much information could be pulled from here. But that didn't surprise him. He turned his focus back on to Nova and watched her walk. "I just know he's a rich man and has a decent amount of political power here in New York. I stay out of public politics." he explained, looking down at her. "I know he can make a lot of things happen." Orlando paused, looking around again. "Surprised he lets you go out to clubs where you can run into people like me," He teased

Nova laughed a little when he mentioned her dad letting her go to clubs, "Yeah, he doesn't know about that." She said, shaking her head. There were some things she just didn't tell her dad because it was easier. It was less of a fight. "It's better that he doesn't know anyway." She said, shrugging as she stepped out of the elevator. She walked with him to one of the offices, unlocking the door. "You aren't wrong about him being able to make stuff happen though." She said as she walked into the office with him. She sat at the desk, opening the drawer to find the file that she needed. She looked at Orlando as he glanced around the office. She knew her family probably wouldn't like him. Her brother definitely wouldn't.

"How was lunch with your brother?" She asked him to change the subject. She remembered him saying that he didn't normally go out to eat with his brother. She stood up and moved to leaned against the desk.

"What daddy doesn't know won't hurt him?" He teased. Orlando liked the sound of that. He knew that he could be a secret in her life, and that would be an advantage. He did like secrecy, just by virtue of his work. He enjoyed keeping private while he could. Orlando knew that soon his name and face would be plastered everywhere as more and more people became ware that he led the city's most prolific gang. Or as the gang started trouble, he would be blamed. Orlando followed her into the office, again looking around at everything and watching her take a file from the desk. "I understand that, I can make things happen too. But in different ways."

Orlando walked to the large window and looked outside at the city lights. He thought to himself about what it would be like to command power in respect in the way her father did. He did have power and respect, but mostly from his gang and the underground world. He had power in the terms that he could evade police, prosecution, etc. But the normal person did not respect him. They thought of him as a rat, as scum, as the worst person on the planet. "It was good, we watched football, reminisced on old times, relaxed. He makes a mean steak mac and cheese, let me tell you." Orlando smiled at her softly. "How was your breakfast?"

Nova watched as he walked over to the window to look out at the lights. She had always loved the view from her dad's office. She walked over to stand next to Orlando, "I'm glad you had fun." She said, looking up at him. "Breakfast was good. That place actually wasn't bad." She said. She looked out the window at the city lights. It was so pretty. She bit her bottom lip lightly as she thought about how she was going to explain Orlando to her friends. She knew that bringing him up to her family was a horrible idea. It could end up that they would never amount to anything. He might not like her.

She frowned when she heard someone outside of the office. She bit her bottom lip lightly and went to go see who it was. Her brother. What the hell was he doing there? She looked at Orlando, "Do me a favor and hide for a moment." She said as she opened the closet. She looked up at him, giving him a sweet smile. She shut the door once he was inside. She looked over as the office door opened to reveal her brother.

Orlando nodded and smiled, "Thank you, it's nice to have a relaxing day sometimes, y'know." he looked to Nova as she stood next to him. He smiled as he saw the street lights reflecting off of her face, it looked pretty, she looked pretty. "I'm glad that you enjoyed it. If I am lucky enough to get a second date, maybe we can go there." He winked and chuckled. Orlando turned around and heard someone in the building. "Who's that?" He asked. Following her orders as she told him to hide. He hoped it was her father and he could get some details out of the interaction, so he was sure to stay quiet in the closet. He glanced out between the shades in the closet door.

Brendan (Forgot if we gave him a name) had stopped by his father's business to grab some files so that he could work from home tomorrow. He knew his father had asked Nova to grab something from the office, but she hadn't returned yet, so he figured he would grab it. When he got to the office door he heard Nova talking to someone, and was confused. When she opened the door he pushed by her inside and began looking around. "Why are you out so late? And who is in here? I heard you talking." He stopped, turning to look at Nova. "Dad called you an hour ago and asked you to bring the sales reports." He said, frustrated. "I need the import reports to work from home tomorrow, nd I'm gonna help dad with his speech. He's running, officially, for senator now, y'know."

Nova sighed when he started asking her all kinds of questions. It was just like Brendan to do that. "I was out with friends when dad called me and you heard me talking on my phone." She said. She was good at lying to him. She rolled her eyes when he mentioned the file. She held it up file up, "Weird. I believe this is in fact the file that I was suppose to grab." She said in a cocky tone. She frowned when he mentioned her dad running for senator. It meant she was going to be working more. "How nice of him to tell me." She muttered. She walked over to Brendan, "What are you doing here?" She asked as she handed him the file. Her brother was really annoying. He was always in her business. She just didn't need him finding Orlando right now.

"Well, I guess you will he on your way now. I have to grab something from my office and I am going to go home. Go go." She said as she nudged Brendan to leave the office.

Brendan rolled his eyes at his sister. "I know he called you. Do you think hanging out with some frilly girls is more important than this? We needed this sooner rather than later." He chided, moving around the desk and grabbing a couple other files. "Stop by dad's house sometime tomorrow. We have some work to do and he wants to talk to you. I think about the campaign." He shrugged and tucked the files beneath his arm. "Why aren't you happy for dad? This will be great for him and his career and the family. You benefit too." Again, he rolled his eyes. "Fine, fine. I'll see you tomorrow." Brendan glanced around the office again before heading out to his car to leave.

When Brendan left, Orlando slowly emerged form the closet. Looking at Nova and raising an eyebrow. "why how lovely he is." He mocked, trying to mimic Brendan's voice. Orlando moved to be besides Nova again. "I guess you should get going, your presence is clearly needed" Orlando teased her. "If you aren't busy tomorrow evening, the laser tag place opens at 6. I could pick you up and we could go around 7?" He asked, following behind her.

Nova frowned when he asked why she wasn't happy about her father. She shrugged, "I didn't say I wasn't." She said. She watched as he left, then looked over as Orlando stepped out. "He's an asshole." She told him as she grabbed her stuff. She sighed as she looked at him, "Yeah, I guess I do have to go." She said. She started to walked with him, smiling a little when he mentioned laser tag.

"Seven works for me." She said once they were outside and she set the alarm. She bit her bottom lip lightly, "Sorry he got in the way." She said as they started to walk down the street. "I should let you head home." She said. She didn't mind walking by herself to her apartment.

Orlando followed Nova as they walked outside, taking a deep breath of the cool night air once they were outside. "You are a strong woman, I know you could kick his prissy boy ass," He teased and grinned as they walked around the building. "Awesome, I'll pick you up and we can play. Hopefully after we can pick up something quick to eat, maybe Burger King or something. Just to refuel after laser tag." He said and stopped when they were at the front of the building.

"Oh no, I would never let a girl like you walk home alone this late at night." He said shaking his head, he motioned for her to lead the way. "Streets aren't safe late at night. What kind of man would I be if I let you go home alone and something happened." Orlando knew that she would be safe with him, he ran these streets so people wouldn't mess with him or her. Orlando followed alongside Nova towards her apartment. "I hope things work out with your father and brother."

Nova laughed a little, "I don't think I have had Burger King in years." She said. "We are definitely going there." She said as she walked with him. She was kind of glad when he offered to walk her home.

"Thanks for walking with me. This walk can get pretty boring when you are alone." She said as she shrugged. She shook her head when he mentioned her brother and father. "This is just them trying to seem like they have more control over things. It's stupid. Honestly, I wish I wasn't even involved." She admitted to him. She needed the money though.

"I'm glad you like my choice of venue. I prefer it to Mcdonald's. It just feels realer, y'kow? Less fake than McDonald's." Orlando looked around them as they walked. He knew this area, but didn't come around often. It was the nicest area in town, her father must have paid for the apartment. He didn't know how she could have afforded an apartment on her own around here. "So do you only work for your dad? Do you do anything else?" He asked and looked down at her. "These place are expensive."

Orlando nodded, listening to Nova as she spoke about her brother and father. "Yea, rich men tend to be that way. If they don't have control, they lose their mind. THey also tend to be a bit misogynistic, so I get why they boss you around." He said and shrugged. "What about your mom? Is she involved in your family business?" He was curious about her life, he wanted to understand the difference in the dynamics between their lives. "You could always walk out, work hard, find another job. If you need help, I'm around."

Nova nodded, "Yeah, I only work for my dad." She said, laughing a little when he mentioned her area being expensive. "Expensive, but nice." She teased him. She got to her apartment, stopping outside of it. She looked up at him at the mention of her mother. God that woman was horrible most days.

"No, she isn't involved. Though she does like to join in and boss me around." She said. She shook her head when he mentioned her walking out. "It's cute that you think I can just leave. It wouldn't be that easy." She told him. Sure she had savings, but her dad would never let her just leave.

Orlando nodded, listening, and walking. "Oh I don't argue that it isn't nice, but you can get nice things in cheaper areas. MY home is nice, but isn't in the preppy part of town." He said and shrugged. "You'll have to see it sometime." He stopped when they reached the apartment and looked up at it, then back down at her. "You've gotta gorw a backbone, stick up for yourself. You are a person and an adult. You can make your own decisions, you should be able to." He said, shaking his head at the thought of her being bossed around by each member of her family. "It could be," Orlando teased, winking at her. "But I understand it is hard, just a thought though. Freedom is nice."

Orlando looked down at Nova, and took her hand. "It was very nice to meet you today, I'm glad we bumped into each other again at the club. Text me tomorrow, and I'll pick you up at 7 for our first real date." He winked. Orlando lifted her hand up and kissed her knuckles. "Sleep well, see you tomorrow." He smiled and gave a wave before he began to walk back to his own house.

Nova rolled her eyes a little when he said it could be easy. She nodded, "Maybe it could be." She said. Was he her way out? Maybe he would make it easier for her to leave. Nova ran her fingers through her hair before he took her hand. "I will see you tomorrow." She said, watching as he kissed her hand. "Goodnight." She said.

She watched as he left and into her apartment. She got ready for bed and laid down. Nova really couldn't stop thinking about Orlando. He left a lasting impression that was for sure. The next day she woke up and got dressed to meet her parents and brother for lunch. She made sure she looked nice because she was meeting Orlando afterwards. Nova smiled as she looked down at her text messages from him. I hope you are ready to lose tonight. ;) she sent the text to him as she walked up to her dad's door. She stepped inside, "Hello!" She called. She smiled when she saw her dad. "Hey daddy." She said.

Orlando headed back to his apartment, humming to himself as he walked. He did thoroughly enjoy Nova’s presence and she was gorgeous. He enjoyed that she didn’t know who he was, yet. Even more so that meant she didn’t want him for his money or his image. She had her own money so he didn’t have to support her or impress her in that way. He did know that her brother and father would be trouble. They would not like him. The rich preppy men who think they’re better than everyone else, he thought, could be the downfall for him if he wanted a chance with her. He decided to hide himself from them, and hide who he was from her, until the time was right.

Orlando slept well into the next morning before heading to the shop. He had some orders to dish out, but also had agreed to work on a few cars for some friends. After arriving at the shop he saw Nova’s text. Prepare yourself, I might surprise you ;) He began to work on the cars, getting greasy and sweaty.

Richard Larson was waiting for his daughter to arrive. Originally he wanted her here to tell her about his campaign and what that would mean for her work. But after he checked the security cameras the night before, at Brendan’s insistence. He saw she had been with someone he recognized and needed to clear that up. “Hello sweetie.” He said giving her a quick hug before leading her to the living room, where her mother and brother sat. “So first off. I am running for senator. It’s going to take a lot of my time, so you will have to step up and take on new responsibilities. That will be discussed later. I’ve got a more pressing matter to discuss with you.”
