I update about every week or so, maybe every few days, but if one is updating everyday or several times a day, I fail to see how they could have put any real effort into what they are writing

I cannot force myself to write if I don't want to. So usually, I end up updating around twice a week, depending on what story I'm writing.

I've found with me at least that I get a lot more inspiration for some of my stories than for others. So for some, I might be able to update three or four times a week, simply because the idea train never stops. But for some other ones, I might only update once every two weeks, because I don't have any ideas.

But I agree, forcing oneself to update never really turns into a good chapter.

I don't update very often, & I know it interferes with the rhythm of my story, but there's really no alternative. I get writer's block after every update, & no matter how hard I try, I really just have to wait for the inspiration orrr whatever to come back. ><
It's the same for me. >__>

The ting is, I don't really care when people update. Update once every year, I don't care. I have so many stories that I can read, there's always something that has been updated. Plus, I get bored with every online story I ever read and have to take a break from them. But I suspect I’m one of a kind? Smiley

I think it doesn't matter when someone updates as long as they're putting genuine work into their chapters. It kind of annoys me when someone doesn't update for months, and when they finally do, their chapter isn't that good. I suppose though that when you have writer's block for an extended period of time, after a while you might just want to write a chapter for the sake of writing a chapter. I try to not be like that though.

But I know one of the stories I'm reading, the author didn't update for almost two months, but when she did it was worth it. The chapter was fantastic. So I suppose it really depends on how much work the author puts into their chapters. Stories that get updated every day, or multiple times a day, end up annoying me after a while, because if you go away for a few days, you have like six updates in the same story to read!

I might be the only one annoyed by that though. :)

the last time I updated mine (except for yesterday) was December 2007 o_o
    earlier than you did XDDD

i haven't had any inspiration for the past few months
    so I cannot write
and I don't want to force myself to write, even if it takes me 2-3 months
because surely the outcome will suck D:

so it depends on the mood. If you want a really good outcome, you should write when you're inspired, if you feel like writing and if you're not too pressured or busy.

at the moment I am updating quiet frequently on one of my stories. Though it is a re write I also have all the time in the world and as I re write it I'm constantly cutting bits out and piecing them back together with something new. But I am having alot of fun doing it and my ideas just keep flooding in.

I was wondering about this because I actually finish my stories [like a handwritten copy.] before I ever put them here. I think last time I randomly updated based on when I had time, but the problem is: one day I have all the time in the world to post a bunch and then its like a week of days where I don't even have time to log on...
well, I guess it isn't that relevant to me right now because I'm not posting anything...

I made the mistake of beginning too many stories without a clear plotline...

I try to update twice a week with each... Needless to share I fail dismally :tehe:

I like it when really really really good updates take time, like a week. It makes me look forward to them and when I read them, it makes me smile and it makes my heart race. I like cliff-hangers that get resolved a week later. It gives me something to look forward to.

I must admit, I do like it when stories update quickly, but I'm reading some at the moment that aren't updated for weeks at a time. I don't mind that at all, because I like the story!

I try to update each of my stories at least once a week, but sometimes it's longer. It really depends on how much free time I have and how creative I'm feeling at the time x] But thats what I aim for.

In my opinion updates should be about a week apart, give or take a few days.

Any longer than that, unless your having writer's block or your not able to get on (on vacation, grounded, etc.) is really...I don't know. It makes me unsubscribe from a story if it takes too long to get updated.

I take waaay too long to update.

I usually have to read the story all over again, just to see where I'm at.

Two weeks apart is alright, but I really try to aim for a week apart. Of course, I usually end up posting three chapters in one day and then waiting a month, post two more chapters, wait a month and a half...etc.

I'm a very bad example. Don't do it, kids.

I pretty much update whenever I feel like it.
I might update a story twice in one week and then leave it for a month.
In the end I'm really only writing for myself.

I think that people should update when they can. Because alot of people have school and work, so they take their time updating which I don't mind.
The only thing that annoys me is when I'll randomly get an email about some story I'm subscribed to and I'll be like... okay? Then when I start to read it I realise that I did actually subscribe, but it's like three years since they last updated..

    It just annoys me..

I try to update as fast as I can. It's also because for people who are just beginning to read the story, they don't have to wait. ;)

I also hate the fact I have four stories that are unfinished. That really bothers me.

I usually update on weekends. But if I'm really into a story I'll continue to update it more than some other ones.

There's this one story that doesn't update for months on end. When I tried to get back into it, I find the chapter is about 39 pages long and I can't keep up with the story, or have enough time to read it.
(Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration... but you get my point! x])

But still. I had to unsubcribe because the story wasn't memorable enough to, well, remember the plot.
