How Often Should You Update?

I think people should give it a week or two. That's how long it used to take me to update. Now I say that because I have a busy schedule and I don't like reading stories that are too deep with me being far behind because I feel like I'm obligated to read them and my eyes are extremely sensitive especially to mega pixels (what's on computer screens). Any longer than that, and you might lose your subscriber.
I also think it's smart to warn the readers about how frequent you update so they know what to expect and not be guessing all the time about when you're going to update. When people are left guessing, that's when people start to lose interest.

I've been slipping with my story Dream Life because it almost takes me a month to update. I've lost subscribers because of it. But I honestly don't care because I always complete my stories and I don't like when my stories are too popular.

As a reader, I think updating a story more than once a week is just too much. There are stories I see on the main page that get updated every single day, sometimes multiple times in a day, and I just feel really sorry for the people that read those stories because I know that for me personally, it would be too often for me to keep track of as a reader.

As a writer, I rarely ever update, which is one of the reasons I don't usually write chaptered stuff. I just have too much going on, both in my personal life with class and work and in my writing life because I tend to have a lot of projects in progress at the same time.

I completely agree with this. I mean, kudos to the author, but more than once a week is a little too much for me. Sometimes it seems a little too much to click on the story after a week and find like, five new updates.
As a person who doesn't write too many chaptered stories anymore, I will probably update whenever I feel like it, but no more than twice a week. I mean, if my readers want me to update more, then they will have to wait. I, like some authors, can't crank out a number of updates in a short amount of time - that's just not how I work.

I usually think once a week to once every two weeks is a decent amount, unless you wanna be a super fast updater.
I think a month or more is just too long.

I think once a week is good, twice a week is fine but no more than that. It depends if the chapters are lengthy though - if an author writes lengthy chapters, then once a week or once every two weeks is fine. If the chapters are relatively short (say, under 700 words) then updating twice or even three times a week wouldn't bother me.

I love when people have a specific day/time of updating, though. It makes it easier for me to catch up or to know when I can expect a story to be updated.

I agree with everything said here. When authors update on a schedule, it makes me so happy because I know when to expect an update.

    --------

I tend to follow a schedule for updates (both stories I post will be updated weekly), but sometimes when I get excited about a chapter, I'll update twice in a week.

I think an author should update as much as they see fit, but I'm subscribed to stories that update twice a day and that just... is a bit too much to keep up with.

I think about once a week is a pretty good schedule. Lots of updates in a row can be hard to keep up with.
