I'm not into it, but figured some people might be. I saw on the WAYT thread, some people were talking about how classical music is there guilty pleasure. Well, feel free to talk about it here!
I'll admit, I like it when the teacher plays classical stuff for us to analyze and shit in Music. It calms me down, but I know absolutely nothin about it tbh.
I love Classical music. It inspired me to play the Violin along with Cirque du Soleil. Whenever I'm sad, I'd blast my favorite Classical song on my iPod, and it would always make me happy.
I play the viola and I'm in an orchestra and it's one of my prized possessions, both my position and instrument.
Classical and rock music, more than any genre, are storytellers, for me. Our conductor said I was getting good at painting pictures in my head with music.
I love love love going to the Opera house. It's better than rock concerts. Like Isa said it paints a picture better than other kinds of music. And I've read that listening to Beethoven makes your IQ higher.
When I was still in Elementary, before I sleep, I used to tune my radio to some unknown station that only plays classical music. Then after a minute or two, I'm already asleep. :tehe:
It soothes me. They're relaxing. One time, I tried tuning the radio in my school service in that station. My classmates almost killed me. :XD
My 7th grade math teacher used it as punishment. Everyone got so mad at her when she played it. I enjoyed it though, my and a few other kids just smiled and didn't complain. After a while of listening (she played the same thing everyime we got in trouble, I can't for the life of me remember the name or who it's by) we started humming to it and the kids would get even more angry and complaintive. I aboslutely love classical, I play the violin in my school orchestra and listening to it just relaxes me. I saw the cellist Yo-Yo Ma play with the Boston Symphony Orchestra a few months ago on a field trip with my school and I got so relaxed I almost fell asleep.
I like some classical music. I used to play the violin. xD What I like is the dramatic, almost dark pieces. Like the ones you hear in movies when bad stuff is about to happen. Of course, I don't remember any names to the pieces I like. I just say "the dramatic ones".
I grew up with crappy radio music, and then started getting into 'better' music. Then I got into my high school, which is crazy into classical music. They don't teach drums or guitar - that's how old fashioned they are.
But yeah, I got into violin, orchestra and classical music from there on in :tehe:
Classical music calms me down. I really like the piano classical music and orchestra. My favourite composer is Franz Liszt. His piano pieces sound wonderful.
I absolutely love classical music. Perhaps that makes me strange, but I quite honestly don't care. I like what I like, and I can't help that, and even if I could, I wouldn't. I like being who I am.
Look at me; I'm rambling. Anyways, the point was that I like classical music. I used to play the clarinet, but quit because I wasn't having fun in marching band and the new band instructor wouldn't let me just be in concert band. The good news is that I've discussed things with her and she agreed to let me be in only concert band next year. I'm super excited about it as well. I'm a little afraid that I may have forgotten some things, but I'm sure I'll be able to get back into the swing of things once I'm in that setting again. :)
I love Beethoven and Chopin and am a huge fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Josh Groban is my favorite classical singer followed by Andra Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. :)
I'm a bit surprised at how many people find classical music soothing, calming, relaxing,... Classical music goes beyond the nineteenth century, so Strawinsky? Bartok? Kachaturian? I doubt anyone would find them soothing! Their music is incredible. But even in baroque, romantic music, and especially in Beethoven, there are loads of passages that are pretty violent... It's the contrast that's amazing, really. Anyone interested in contemporary classical music? Like Messiaen, Ligeti, John Cage, Webern, Shoenberg,...? My all-time favorites are probably Schubert, Debussy, Rachmaninov and Strawinsky. Gotta love Russian music. ^^
Arabesque, Canon in D Major, Fur Elise and the Theme from Love Story are my favorites so far. I'm starting with just the classics for now, but I'm working my way up... It's my new found love ^_^
