I am not Wiccan, I am a Traditional Celtic Witch/Shaman. I usually don't post on Wiccan things but this somehow got intertwined with Paganism so I felt it was a must. :D

I've been a Witch my whole life and no one is ever going to change my ways.

I don't know if anyone else noticed this but the first thing in this thread is a defination of Wicca from Wikipedia. From what I got from it, Wikipedia seems to think that this religeon started in 1920...? (correct me if that isn't what it meant)
I've been studying Wicca for the past year or so and I follow their beleifs, and I know that paganism, which is basicaly where Wicca comes from, predated even Christianity. Confused

i dont know a whole lot about but after reading a couple of ur guys thoughts i just might hit up the library. =)

I have a whole issue on religion, at the moment i dont follow anything specific. My parents sent me to a catholic school all my life (k-12) and i cant stand it. (no offense what so ever to anyone) i just feel like some religions make the concept of a god or goddess w/e way to complex, special the catholic religion which i have witnessed from a whole lot experience.

I was always fascinated by the whole witch concept and im the down to earth nature person in my family/friends so many the wicca religion is something i need to look into.

Paganism does predate Christianity, however Wicca is a branch of Paganism as Catholicism is a branch of Christianity. Wicca itself is a fairly new branch of Paganism, and yes, it branched off sometime around the 20's, no one knows the exact date.
You wouldn't call a Christian "Catholic" and you wouldn't call a Catholic "Christian". Same basic concept. Cute

    Yup^ =]

I personally I am one of those people that gets rather annoyed with people who use Wicca and Pagan interchangeably because I am a Pagan but I am not a Wiccan even though they are related.

I am Pagan, or Wiccan as I often have to say. I think its a great way of life. My family doesn't believe in God, we see no way that what is said about him can be true. The explanation for what happens is called 'Science'. But even though I don't believe the way most do, I do not disrespect any religion.

While you don't have to be a witch to be wiccan, a lot of wiccan's openly call themselves witches, though, some are offended by the word.

I am catholic and I don't bash other religions, I just got a question:
If one believes in the Spirit of All (or whatever you name) how can one not believe in the "god" of the evil things? (satan).

    What exactly to Wiccans do?

That's an interesting question. Can I ask you why you feel the need to believe in an "evil spirit" such as Satan?

For Wiccans, the God and Goddess aren't exactly viewed the same way a Christian views their God. We emphasize the brighter aspects of our deities because this gives us purpose and helps us grow in our spirituality. However, when hurtful things appear in our lives, we turn to the God and Goddess and we recognize that this is also a part of them. We do not blame a devil nor call upon a god to fend them off. We acknowledge the dark and bright aspects of our deities.

Hopefully, that made sense. If you need me to clarify anything, ask away.

a lot of Wiccans and Pagans believe in the term "All gods are one"

Which means good and bad are all branches of one ultimate force. I was Baptiste Catholic so I do know that Satan came from God too since he was originally an angel. And I realize god gave everything he created free will but if free will entitles that bad things are possible do you not think that god has good and bad aspects to him/her?

But back to the original question we simply see the ultimate force as both dark and light because you cant have one with out the other and it doesn't mean they have to be two separate beings. If there was only one in the beginning what ever comes next is part of that original.

And I'm not sure what you mean by what Wiccans do? I'm not a wiccan just a pagan but I don't think I'm too far off when I say Wiccans meditate and believe in the power of the elements utilizing or calling on that power ritualistically during meditation to gain inner peace, protection, wisdom, strength, or aid in spell casting. But believe deeply in the concept of karma 3 times as bad and 3 times as good as what ever action you are doing.

I was born Baptist in the center of the Bible belt so
branching out religiously wasn’t really an option for
me throughout most of my life. However, when I
got older I did leave the church to study Wicca much
to my mother’s chagrin. If it counts everyone in my
hometown was really accepting of my new found belief
system except for me. I wasn’t comfortable with worshipping
any deities and when I tried taking a path that focused
explicitly on nature I still found myself only putting
half my heart into the activities. Wicca is a beautiful
religion, but I ended up settling into hardcore atheism.
I no longer believe in the lord or the lady, but while I
did I learned a lot about myself, and nothing remotely
evil occurred during my short stint in pagan ritualism.
But eh . . . maybe that's just me and everyone else
    really does get possessed. xD
