I think being able to choose the gender of your child would be lovely, but it would also have many cons.

Lots of pros, and a lot of cons.. I would say them, but everyone here pretty much beat me to them. :file:

    I wouldn't want that
I like the mystery of it
not knowing until a certain time
It feels more natural and organic and thats how I want to keep the sex of my baby!

Seriously, its like, why would you want the possibility of possibly altering fate?

Because maybe certain parents have already had two girls and don't want a third? Even if they'd be happy either way.

Other reasons have been posted in the thread as well.

Personally, I see the pros, but I do not want to do that.
I would want a boy more than a girl but I would love them equally no matter what.
I agree, if it's for the benefit of the parents and scientists mess up then it's going to be taken out on the poor child

No. Because then there might me an overpopulation of one gender and how would that happen? How could you choose?

    This is horrible.
What if the child is gay or bi? Or a trans? They will grow up thinking their parents hate them because that's not what the parents chose. The parents want a girl, they get a girl, not a girl who likes girls, you know?

I don't know. It just seems off to me. It's not fair to the children.

I don't think it's a clever thing to do. It's just not right and it's like creating something false.

I'm pretty sure it's most Mom's dreams to have a little girl, so like... there would be no boys left... And yes, I know not everyone thinks that way, but most girls in my school think like that.

What's more, gender doesn't matter, the child is still your baby.

I would never choose the sex of my baby. Hell I don't want some scientifically created kid.

If they want a boy, but don't care, it doesn't really matter then, does it?

Sorry if this is mentioned already, I think it is, but it would be good for China.
I've heard that in China, If you get a child of the unwanted sex, they kill the baby or just don't treat them properly.
So, if they didn't want a girl, they could choose the sex to be a boy and save a child from being killed or treated unfairly.

    That's just my opinion.

I have to say though: If the parents are happy with either sex but are gonna choose, then I say thats pretty pointless.
    They should leave it.
But if the child is in like, a sort of situation where they're gonna get untreated fairly or killed for their sex, then they should be able to choose.

    In a way it does.
Like, certain countries, guys get better lives than women.
Parents could be using that as a reason to pick their gender as well.

Yeah but then there would be a huge unbalance in the gender of that country.
Like if they were all boys, there would be huge baby problems:shock:

Well, there probably would be families found that would be willing to have girls to breed.

    That sounds horrible.

Its a bit like choosing your favourite type of candy from a candy store :/
Not that I'm against it or anything I guess.
But say for example, everyone in the World wanted a baby boy. The female population would be down the drain! :/ :cheese:

    Eep.
I'm not against it or what not, but I just believe it should ONLY be used if the child is, 'cause of their sex, going to be abused or killed. :/

I don't think so. You just ruin the excitement of finding out what kid you have, and I don't like designer children. I don't like the idea of it, it's just going too far because the child has no choice in what they want to be. It's all up to the parents. I just think it's wrong.

Yeah, choosing the sex of your child is like going Christmas shopping with your parents. It's no fun. :tehe:

    I don't see why not.
If you want to then go ahead. If not.. then don't.

I heard my friend say it's God's will.
(She's catholic so we are refering to the Christian God.)
but in my opinion if it was really destiened to be a girl/boy then God would put the desire in your head.

I mean I dont think the female/male population would diminsh that much seeing as though theres always gonna be haters to this idea and so they will still have a 50/50 chance. plus I can't see how ever many billion people all wanting a boy or a girl. (:
