I got my period yesterday (it had been six months since my last period) and it wasn't too heavy or too light, but now I think it's getting heavier and it sucks. Last night while sleeping it was so uncomfortable, every move I made I could feel the blood coming out. I just wanted to know about everyone's first experience with tampons. Did it hurt or was it easy? Because I'm scared out of my mind to use one?

^ I used a tampon for the first time on the first day of my first period. There was a pool party and I wasn't gonna skip out on it. XD I was eleven years old, so I was a little freaked out, but all in all, I was one of those precocious children who felt completely and utterly grown up for using a tampon. XD It wasn't bad at all, though.

It really didn't hurt at all. There was a little bit of discomfort, but nothing bad at all. I'd just recommend using a very low absorbency tampon at first (don't go straight for the ultra super max tampons). Remember to relax while you're inserting it, and if need be, use a little bit of lubricant on the tip so it goes in a bit smoother. Now, I use tampons without applicators, but if you choose one with an applicator, I suggest smooth plastic over cardboard; it's more comfortable.

^ Twitch Thank you so much. I was reading about how to insert one on some website and I pretty much get it, but I'm still nervous.

^ No need to be nervous. Just make sure you're not afraid to put it in all the way. If you put it in all the way you wont feel a thing and it's awesome. tehe

The first time I used a tampon, I was afraid that if I put it in all the way like you're supposed to, it'd get stuck. So I only put it in half way and it was extremely uncomfortable. XD

So, just relax and follow the instructions. Most tampon boxes have instructions on the box or inside the box.

    Okay.

I am sexually active and have been on birth control for a year and a half [except during June this year]. I take it the same time every day, and very rarely do I have problems with it.

My period started a day late last Thursday, and it was definitely a period. It didn't fit the qualifications for implantation bleeding or anything of the sort. It started light, got heavier, just a slight bit lighter than my normal periods [but still period-like], but the bleeding only lasted three or four days, and then since then until today [which would be the week after it started], I had just brown discharge.

I've had brown discharge before, but never for four days. And though I wasn't bleeding anymore, just having discharge...I still had blood clots when I went to the restroom, but they didn't necessarily look like normal blood clots...small, kinda fibery looking material.

I'm just wondering if I should be worrying about anything, or if this somehow fits into the category of 'relatively normal and nothing to worry over'. Shifty

Oh god. I got the implant in my arm last month, (27th July) and i came on my period on the 9th August.
I'm still on. It really sucks.
I asked them and it's normal for the first few weeks. If it lasts more than 12 weeks i have to go back to get something to balance them out. Pretty much get the pill.
12 WEEKS! I'm dying here xD

Okay, so, I have a REALLY serious yet stupid question. Shifty

At night, is it normal to sleep with a tampon on? I'm terrified of it. (I use tampons sometimes and pads the rest of the time.) I was just wondering because I have this phobia that it'll get stuck or something. Facepalm Don't laugh at me. XD

^ I've heard it's not healthy to have the same tampon in your body for longer than eight hours. You could risk toxic shock syndrome. It's strongly advised not to sleep with a tampon on, so don't fret.

It's wiser to sleep with a pad or a menstrual cup.

I've never been so happy to have my period! Hail I won't get it on the first day of school now!

I have P.E., and I'm terrified that if I use a pad in P.E., that'll leak... and it's required that we wear basketball shorts. O.O

I'm too embarrassed to ask my mom for tampons.... D:

The same thing happened to me, mine came EXACTLY a week early, just so I wouldn't have it on the first day of school.

    That would be BRUTAL.

^ I've always been using pads even in P.E. with basketball shorts (we do have the option of sweatpants for colder weather but I always stuck to shorts for preference). As long as you change your pad regularly during the day, you really shouldn't be leaking. (The worst case scenario is simply a stain on the panty if the period goes off of the pad. Even without P.E. I often have those at least once every cycle.) And I'm sure there's girls who wear pads even in booty shorts and hardly have any problems leaking or even staining.

If you're still feeling uncomfortable about using pads for P.E., then there's no reason to be too embarrassed to ask your mom for tampons. She'll understand if you explain to her that you'd feel more secure when doing the physical activities in P.E.. Cute

That happened to my mother (okay, only example I know of Facepalm) and she had to use the pill cos she had her period for two months straight but with the pill and the thing in your arm makes you put on a lot of weight with two hormone shizz in your body.

I've had my period for 8 years now and starting last year it's been horrible irregular.
I won't get it for 5 months at a time, sometimes it's onl 2 months apart. I hardly ever get it right when it's supposed to arrive.
Normally I'd be okay with this, but I have a cruise in November and I don't want my period when I'm at sea for 3 days and on an airplane / at an airport for 2 days.

Does anybody know why this is and ways I can regulate my period without having to buy pills or anything?

^ The only reason I can think of is if you're really unhealthy lol. Stress can affect your period, as can major climate changes (I went to Mexico for a week and my period started early because of the sudden climate switch). The pill isn't that bad though, if you're using it to regulate your period or deal with acne (that's why I'm on it...). It does take a few months for it to make a noticeable change, but at least your period comes the same time every month.
Mine was so weird before I got on the pill, it would go anywhere from 25 days to 32, so I never really knew when it was coming. Now I know it starts Wednesday every 4 weeks lol.

Yes, I am unhealthy. I had horrible eating patterns, and the other three people in my house smoke so I'm constantly enduring second hand smoke. But I've been eating healthier lately. I just want natural things, I have no interest of going on the pill or getting any other pills.

^ It's probably something you should see a doctor about. If the reason isn't because you're really unhealthy (just having odd eating habits wouldn't be the problem - you'd need to have some kind of health issue) then I can only think that there's something wrong or it's just you, that's how your body works, you know?

I had no interest of going on the pill a year ago, but it really is handy for regulation - it fixes up a lot of people with the same problem. Maybe you should try and consider it, or as I said, at least discuss it with your doctor.

I've also heard that menstrual cups are a good substitute for pads and/or tampons.

My period came three days early last week, meaning it was still going to be there on the Wednesday when I had two job interviews to go for. XD

Thankfully it ended early and I didn't have to deal with it that day. But it did only last three days this month instead of the usual four days, so hopefully now that I'm getting older it means it's not lasting as long as it used to.
