It depends on the person and how much they can handle. With my own limits, I only work on one chaptered story at a time, and maybe I'll spontaniously write a oneshot if I find inspiration. If I had two chaptered stories on the go I'd never be able to give them the focus they deserved.

I doubt my ability to keep up with one chaptered story, nevermind several :cheese:

I wouldn't be able to do it. Unless I was like, rattling one off in a fit of enthusiasm at crazy speed every couple of days, and the other was a chapter-a-month slowburner. But then I'd end up losing my fit of enthusiasm and they'd both turn into slowburners, and then they'd be burning even slower because they'd have to compete.

I have as many stories are as mentioned within my signature plus a one shot. One of the stories is finished and the other three are in-progress. Usually, I alternate, my vampire series one day followed by my "Am...?" series the next. They're all pre-written, so I only have to worry about editing them.

I have an idea for a new story, but I'm not posting that until I'm through posting Blue Rose. I'm still brainstorming that one anyway. If I have more than three or four stories going at a time, there's no way that I would be able to keep up. So, I'll keep with the stories I have now before starting any new ones.

I don't think there's such a thing as 'too many.'
You can never right too much.
Except if it makes you go off your rocker, I guess.

As of right now, I have twenty-five.

I don't really care for how many stories someone else has. They could be a lot more focused, and/or could be writing longer.

For me, I can't work on more than two chaptered stories. Even that's a challenge for me because sometimes I will lose interest in one if the plot doesn't seem to be moving. It happened to one of my favourite stories I'm writing. I nearly lost the plot but I thought about it for like one week constantly so I won't lose interest.

    I currently have one story.
When April ends I'll have much more free time, so I'll probably have more. I currently have ideas and first chapters of a lot of stories, and they're all honestly different. But yeah. People should only write when they're inspired; maybe someone has tooooons of creativity, let them have 20 stories. They, of course (to have quality) will be updated rarely, so that's the price you have to pay.

I have 15 unfinished stories Don

But I recently came up with a system to update them: put all but my co-writes and one solo story on hiatus until one is finished and then once that one is done I'll add another story to the mix. So I'll have 5 stories going on at once. Far easier to update than 15 heh.

I have four chaptered stories, but two are on hiatus, because one of them I have serious writers block on, and the other because it's a sequal and I want to get the first one all completely edited before I even post it. But my other two are going awesomely :D
I like it when the author has a lot of oneshots and a few active chaptered stories, because in between chapters you can go read oneshots :D

I think that as long as you can maintain the stories, and they're something you really love to write, then it doesn't really matter how many stories you have. Personally I like to focus on one or two, because then it gets a little too confusing for me - but that's just me.

i like 1 or 2 cause after a bit they all get too much and you have to keep updating each one and eventually give up on a few

I think I have like, twenty-five stories? But the majority of them are drabbles. I only have about two chaptered fics, and one joint story.

As of now I have 34 stories.
    2 being co-written
    25 of them being oneshots
    30 of them being completed
Both of my co-writes being those HUGE joint stories
and the other two fan fictions that I'm writing.

I don't think there's really a limit on how many stories you can post but I agree with the quality over quantity. Some people can write a oneshot a day and it sounds amazing but others can't.

I have two stories going at once because sometimes I get stuck on one and have ideas for another so I end up updating both every now and then.

I have 6 active chaptered stories. 1 finished chaptered story. And 2 one-shots.

I think it depends on how many the author can handle. I once met a girl who seriously had over 20 active stories, but each was completely original and differed from the others and she updated them constantly, like seriously twice a week.

It just depends on how well the author can handle the hassle of updates and find the time to write.

I don't think it matters, however, I only have one active chaptered story, but the other two I have reasons for not updating or deleting.

I currently have 3 active stories, but I'm also working on 2 contest entries. So I guess you could say I have 5 stories running around, trapped inside my head, bahahah! XD
I always seem to work with a lot of different plots and things going on up in my head because that's just the way I work out things, I guess. Two of my stories are indefinite so I'm really only focusing on one story, aside from the contest entries, that I have yet to type. >.>
I agree that it depends on the writer, the amount of their workload is solely based on them. I also agree that what's important is quality over quantity.

As long as each story doesn't suffer too much for the sake of its numerous siblings then you don't have too many. I used to try to tie myself to just one or a very small pool, but that actually made my writing suffer, so I have tons of projects. It's all about how you manage it. I generally take a few weeks writing on one or two (occasionally more if I'm having a very good spell.) I focus on whichever suits my mood most; in other words, I write what I want, afterall first and foremost I write for my own purposes. Then, of course, my attention shifts. The only way my works suffer significantly in this way is that it takes me much longer to finish something, but I've gotten used to that and have adapted. That is why I don't post things here until I'm done though; I would never expect my readers to wait as long as I do when it comes to getting things done.

I don't think there's a limit as long as the author can keep up with it, and like This.Useless.Heart. said, as long as the stories don't suffer because the author has too much on their plate.

I don't have any chaptered stories, and I only have 4 one shots posted. I've never finished a chaptered story that I've actually liked and most tend to get deleted a few days after the first chapter is posted. I don't know why, I just.. can't find an idea I like enough to continue anymore.
