I usually let it simmer in my mind for a while. I try to mentally figure out the plot, characters, and fine details like a mental outline. Then, when I can't stand it anymore, I'll write out my ideas and begin the story. If the idea is really good, or I'm worried about losing it, I'll write it out immediately, rather than plan in my head.

I always make a layout for it. Strange, I know, but something about picking out pictures and all of that makes me want to write it more. =]

I start writing the summary to organize my thoughts.
    I make an outline.
    I make the banner.
    Then I post the summary.
Then I begin writing the first chapter.

I start writing and depending on how much I like it, I write more. That's why I have 50 random files on my computer. :XD My friends get mad at me because I usually stop mid-sentance too.

I get a random piece of paper, scribble pics of characters, draw flow charts and basically just sprawl all over it in my terrible handwriting.tehe

I think about the basic plot for at least a week, and then I come up with possible endings.
I make the layout, come up with a title and write the first chapter.
    It just goes from there.
    I don't outline, I just write.

sometimes when i get an idea i'll try to get a plot to back it up then i'll try to write it 4 out of 5 of the times i start writing a new story i just got the idea for, it doesn't work. So try this, give it a few days thought before you start writing it and it all goes down hill :D

I roleplay it in my head. If I'm alone and driving, I have conversations between characters out loud.

I save a phrase summary in the Notes of my phone.
Depending on my mood, when I get home I'll sit and write. Or think about it for a while, then just write. I sometimes don't know where I'm going, or I change direction.

I love those kinds. When I think about it too much it comes out forced, and when I have chapters planned out thoroughly I get too lazy to write them. Dunno why.

Haha, same. :XD I don't know, it just gets the juices flowing even more for the story.

I have a long list of possible ideas saved in my drafts. :tehe:
Sometimes, if I have the time, I'll make a story page for it, and just not put up the first chapter. Sometimes I can't wait, so I write the first chapter.
But a lot of my new ideas just get saved to the list.

^ I used to do that, but then I got into the habit of just getting too many ideas, writing them down and not coming back to them.
So now, I just ignore ideas, :XD unless it stews in my head for ages and/or I come up with something really awesome.

Its weird, but when I get an idea, it plays in my mind like a film, and it stays there until I write down the basic outline or start writing the actual story. I suppose in a way it's helpful, as I don't forget anything that way.

I used to write a numbered list of events to have in the story.
I called it a 'skeleton' :tehe:
And then I'd add more to it, like descriptions of each event and the characters.
    I called that the 'muscle'.
And then there was flesh, which was writing up actual chapters.
I haven't done that in a while, though.

I'm a huge loser and I tend to take a pen and notebook everywhere with me, so I can write when I want.

    I'm the same way.
Since I tend to be in odd places when good ideas pop into my head, like the shower or about to fall asleep, I just start to write it out in my head.
I never remember exactly what I "wrote" but I always remember the gist of it, which is always good.

So, I'm not the most organized of writers...
When I first conceive a story idea, I become unbelievably giddy. I don't know why. :XD
Then, I think about it and just play the scenes I want over and over in my head. Sometimes, I'll write it down and it will be remembered. Other times...not so much.
I usually write it on random scraps of paper like school worksheets or bus transfers so my ideas can be easily lost.

I don't have a very efficient system, you see...

When I get an idea, I just play it in my mind. Sometimes it isn't clear, but it's just constantly floating in my mind.

When it gets to the point where I can't stop thinking about the idea, and scenes become more clearer, that is when I plan it with flow charts (A2 because I'm messy :D) and stuff. By then, it's embedded into my mind and the only way to calm it down is to write a chapter or two... just to see how I feel about it then.

Then I get on with the Mibba stuff :) I normally write a chapter ahead before posting anything.
