Seeing I haven't read Joyce yet, I wouldn't know. Flaubert has made it pretty clear when he said that Mme Bovary is a reflection of us all. We all delude ourselves into something almost every day, now maybe even more often than before. You did get it right, though, at some level. What struck me was the cruelty of the world towards that woman and the author's objectivity in the whole novel, plus that the man was obviously right about some things.

On my newest update of a story the other day I had to come up with a reason authors feel the need to write fanfiction. I didn't realize it would actually apply, until a review came that said she finally understood why she needed to write fanfiction. Here's my reason.

I was so fucking touched by your music I had to write fan fiction. My soul had to create art. I couldn't keep the feeling that your music gave me within myself, I had to release it somehow. You would fucking understand if you gave a shit. People don't write fan fiction because they are untouched. They write fan fiction because they're so god damn passionate about you, they don't know what else to do with themselves!

Um, it's dialogue so if it sounds like I'm screaming at someone, it's not you.

I just thought it might be food for though for people who don't understand why we write. I can't speak for every author out there. Some, I believe, do write because the lead singer of their band is so 'hawt', but some people might fit into my reason, I believe.

I usually get a lot of ideas from books I read. Even stories I read on here give me ideas, but they're usually ones too complicated for me to even think about describing in a story. And I agree with all of you who have mentioned how annoying and downtreading it is when people's stories, that aren't entertaining or lack in any form of interesting/original plot, get higher ratings and almost three times as many comments as the people who try to differ from the fanfiction/silly little "fall in love" fics. I have a story with totally original characters, even though they're based on my friends and myself, and I've scraped together 45 comments (most of which being my own and my friend Swanny's), with various readers. I have a rule, making the point that without three comments, there is no update. And, if there aren't 75 comments by the time it's finished, then they don't get the sequel I'm planning. It's really upsetting when people don't bother enough with you, even though you put so much effort and care into spelling, grammer, plotline etc.

Eversince I was a kid, forensics seemed to be very appealing to me (: Very interesting. So, as little, I started to write crime stories and horrors... In Croatian (: Now I decided to give them a shot in English :D

I read other stories and kinda take inspiration from it.
I usually like writing tragic stories, ones that just are heartbreaking.

Certain plots in shows, lyrics in songs, and dramatic things that happen in real life are the ones that really motivate me to write. Or sometimes I just end up thinking too much and explore all the possiblites with a certain story, and go with the best one.

I woke up a few days ago with a great idea for a story.
So I wrote it [or started it].
And that lead to another story.

I had a cool idea for a story. A guy goes to the supermarket and buys some carrots. I'll write it sometime soon.

The story I'm currently working on came to me in a dream. Really. It was just a dream. But of course, I had to edit it a bit (:

I think...in a way, when these challenging, morality based ideas hatch in the mind, it seems easier for some people to express them through the written word. Meaning, a certain moral or something is represented by a story line, one that is beautifully executed and unmatchable to even intellectual equals...only because no two stories are the same, no matter how similar the plotline is, or the style of writing, etc etc. There is always something that sets a peice apart from another.

I'm blabbering. I regret typing this up, but it would be a waste if I didn't post it.

You're not blabbering, I agree with you all the way (: We all have our own writing styles, our own way of expressing emotions and you can have the same characters with the same flaws, the same advantages, same plotlines but those would be two totally different stories (:

Rain helps me, I sit on my windowsill and I can think of anything and everything..
And sometimes I get an idea for a story, or one shot or whatever.

But music is my main inspiration. Usually when I'm sat around doing nothing else but listening to music, I'll start to daydream a theme or something that relates to the song. And if I like it, I'll start writing :)

Sarah (Shotgun Sarah;; ) inspired me to do my own one shots, though. I know that mine are no where near as good as hers but after I read them, I felt compelled to write. She's an amazing writer, in my opinion.

Reading other authors' work usually inspires me. Well, certain authors. William Faulkner, Samuel Beckett, and James Joyce have all wove themselves inextricably into my style.

I get ideas at night. It's really weird. It usually starts with me taking two characters (if it happens to be fanfiction) and making them converse. Just now, I had Billie Joe hugging Adrienne and telling her it would be all right.

So then the questions come. What will be all right? What exactly happened? What are both parties reactions? Will it actually be all right? Why is Billie Joe saying it will? Why is Adrienne convinced it won't be? etc.
