Writing Habits

If I have soda, I grab two and set them on my window sill so I dont have to get up. I go pee. Make sure I'm comfy. And in the winter, I take off my jacket and then open the window. It's like......when I open the window I'm freezing, and I don't close it until I have a certain number of paragraphs done-then I close it and turn the heater on. But it keeps me from getting distracted since I'm freezing. I also deprive myself of sleep. Less sleep = more creative. With me, at least.

Um... let's try to list mine down.

Whenever I write the phrase 's/he licked his lips' I kind of do it myself. :shifty
I mouth my dialogue before I type them down.
I listen to the Jonas Brothers and the Hush Sound. :XD

Uh... idk if it counts but if I'm writing a kissing scene or something, I write a kissing scene with very little description, then one with too much description and then I write one with the right anount of description.

omfg. omgno: When I write one shots and don't know how to end it, I just kill everybody off. :XD

I listen to music.
Read aloud what I've written every other paragraph to make sure it all sounds right.
I yell/rant/rave when some disturbs me because it's generally during one of the best parts of my story.

I listen to music that fits with the chapter I'm writing.
I often stop abruptly and surf the net if I have writers block and then I usually stumble
across something that I can incorporate into my story.
and sometimes I'll just leave my computer completely and sit in the living room with my
mom and dog for a few minutes.

Before i write: watch loads of tv / read a book / youtube / daydream, thats where i got most of my ideas for my chapters. Then I scribble everything down in my book.

When i write: I refer to the book a few times and try to change it here and there if i've thought of better ideas. I listen to music too, its relaxing. Oh, and i always must have a cup of water beside the computer. :cute:

Listen to one specific song on repeat, or a couple of songs that I have set aside for specific stories.

While I'm actually physically writing, I have a tendency to reread certain sentences, then the whole paragraph, even if I find nothing wrong with it; I just reread everything immediately after writing it. If I get writer's block halfway through, I stop, then make up some excuse to leave the room, like to go get a snack. I leave and re-enter the room consistently, because when I get writer's block, it's like I have ADD and can't sit down and focus at all...It's kind of irritating, but I can't help myself sometimes.

I can't really listen to fast, upbeat music while I write, regardless of the mood of the chapter. It always has to be slow.

When I describe how a character is moving, I tend to act it out. Like if I write 'S/he put his hand to his forehead.' then I'll mirror that action.

I constantly reread sentences and paragraphs.

I go into trance to think the story, acting them out in my mind. If I had the story, I log on to dictionary.com and thesaurus.com in case I want to find similiar words or the words' meaning. And go to yahoo.com or wikipidia to find facts and history.

Once I get excited, I won't stop. :D
I just keep typing and typing and the next day, I delete it lol. bcoz I sometimes write crap. And sometimes, I look at pictures and listen to songs.

I save the document every two words I write.
I've had some nasty experiences with losing a lot of what I've written that it has become a habit now.

When I write the facial expressions on my characters I tend to do them myself.
Usually I don't realise I am.

I listen to slow-ish songs. I can't listen to fast ones, for some reason!
It's weird, I like, need my music!

I also roleplay while I write. And, uh, I'm actually writing right now, and I'm messing around on the boards. I distract myself a lot while writing! :lmfao

I listen to music. I have different playlists for different themed songs, so if I'm writing a sex scene, I'd have my playlist for sex scenes on, etc. When I write songfics, I'll sometimes have a webpage open with the lyrics on it - I rarely put the song on repeat unless I'm nearly finished writing the fic.

I also have I Can Has Cheezburger? and a whole array of other websites like that open in the background, even if I'm writing something utterly depressing. :tehe:

Daydreaming, nothing else could make me think clearly on writing except of dreaming and pretending. :XD And it's simply... fun. So that's what I do.

I sit in the dark - I generally don't write until night. Eventually I'll turn on a light but for an hour or so I'll just be in darkness.
I listen to instrumental or industrial music. No punk like I normally listen to while on the computer.
I'll also act out what I'm writing. I'll talk to myself and move around. It's embarassing when my mother sees me. lol.

There are many writing habits of mine:
- Before I write, I make notes in my notebook in bullet points and basically outline the chapter so I know what I'm working with.
- Writing in the dark (or when it's raining/cloudy) because it always somehow modivates me.
- I always listen to music. I absolutely cannot write without something playing in the background.
- I read my sentences out loud to see if they sound well, and (like Spaztastic said) I act out as much dialogue as possible to see if it's believable.
- I save my work after every paragraph (no lie), or if I wrote a sentence or two that just amaze me, I'll save after every sentence.
- I go back and reference previous chapters of the story, just to make sure I have the information right (because I have a habit of taking it too far and making up something that hasn't happened yet or happened a different way in the past).
- I use wiki when it comes to band information, events or something that I'm not familiar with (which is pretty much included in every chapter).
- If I lose inspiration or can't find a good closure for the chapter, I'll wander around the house until something comes to me.
There's so many annoying habits of mine, I'm sure I didn't cover it all :tehe:

I've recently taken to writer while The Bold And The Beautiful is on. Or other soap opera's. I don't know why...

I have to be chewing.
Unless I'm acting something out I have to be chewing.
If I don't have anything to actually chew I tend to bite my plate.
I've worn holes in it and it's only about seven/eight months old.

Everytime I try to add another scene or make a complete change of mood, I usually stand up from my computer chair and walk back and forth, then I think and imagine the whole picture in my head so I could get every detail that I can out of my imagination and be able to think of how I could write them down nicely.

I just realized that a couple of days ago, which is sad. :XD
