I wish there was a way to figure out who I am related to. I mean, on my dad's side, his family came from Italy. And my mother is Colombian, but she can trace as far back as France. So, maybe I'm the descendant of some French explorer who raped and pillage the Colombian indian tribes...

My best friend traced her ancestry back to Samuel Clemens.
I thought that was kind of cool.

I'm not related to anyone special, but
My great-grandad on my mom's side was forced into service by the Nazis.
He drove a truck for a living and they accosted him on the street and took him away.

My great granfather on my mothers side opened the first aviation factory and insitute in Kazan, Russia. (which happens to be the third largest city in russia) When he died they put a bust of him in the entrance to the factory and on his 100 year birthday this past summer they put a huge potrait in the university.

He was supposed to be the mayor but he passed away before he gained that kind of power. He's really well known in my city and my great aunt had recently published his diary of when he went to Italy during the communist regime (which was very rare) so he's now known by the younge people as well.

I have to say, I have some really cool ancestors. But there's only one I can think of that's famous. My great-something uncle is Elias Howe. He was the first to patent a functioning sewing machine invention. He's credited with inventing the sewing machine, but there were other forms before his design. He also fought in the Civil War for the Union. Yes

He's my mother's father's mother's father's brother or something like that. My great grandmother was a Howe. It's the only side of my family that's been in America country that long.

Isaac Singer lost a patent war to Elias and had to pay him royalties for taking his ideas. But Singer's machine is the one you see today. So unfortunately, his family gets the credit (and money) for the sewing machine. At least, I'm assuming that his descendants received money from his company. My family's a bit bitter about it.

Edit: I have a friend who's related to Grace Kelly. :D

I don't believe that I'm related to anyone special.
But I've never really been interested in that sort of thing.
It happened and I'm here now, so it doesn't really matter.

I'm related to Ulysses S. Grant, on my dad's side. It's pretty cool, I guess there's a park somewhere that has our family's history traced back to him. In case you don't know(because I didn't either, before my dad made me aware of it), he was the 18th president of the US. That's pretty insane if you ask me.

Apparently my family on my dad's side was some kind of German royalty or something like that. My dad's got a picture of the castle named after us. I think it's being used as a hotel now. XD

I have a friend that is a (distant) descendant of Abraham Lincoln. There aren't any living direct descendants, but he can trace his family back to him.
And my friend Marisa might be a distant relative of the Romanovs. (As in the Romanov dynasty.)

I'm doing a research paper on my family history, and I recently found out that I'm directly descended from John Turner, who came to America on the Mayflower and was a signer of the Mayflower Compact.

    It made me smile. :D

John Turner is on my Dad's side, and on my Mama's side, we've researched all the way back to 700 AD. It's kind of funny, because we're part Saxon, and eventually they stopped having last names. A lot of the people are listed as having names like "Onid the Conquerer" and stuff.

Made me giggle, because I saw that and thought of Hagar the Horrible. XD

Apparently some of my ancestors were part of a major highland clan in Scotland.

I'm not for sure how true that is, but I do know that some of my ancestors were the founders of the Indiana county I'm currently living in.
