I tend to do both. Recently, it's been paper, though. I haven't been writing in a while and I've just started something, which I happened to start in my notebook. It also helps me to be able to carry my writing around, since I kinda write one word at a time. I also like to write in strange places like the car, before bed, on a fence, etc. I also get distracted when I'm at the computer...
Yet, at the computer, I find I can write more than one word at a time, because the words flow so freely from my mind to my hands. Still, I end up thinking faster than I can type. And my fingers start to hurt. I really dislike taking everything I write and typing it up, though. Typing really helps me to get unstuck because I can ramble a whole lot without wasting paper or lead or ink having to erase a whole bunch. And my handwriting. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I can't stand it.
A lot of the stuff I write, like my poetry, happens in math. I get so beyond bored. Maybe when I get finally get my laptop, I'll be able write wherever I want... like in a tree...
