Panic? At the Disco

Panic? At the Disco Last week, I gave a small introduction to my column and gave a few of my opinions about the band, Fall Out Boy. I stated that even though some people disagree that they are truly an AR band, I find them to be a perfect example of what this column is all about. I looked in my comments, and tailoverforeternity seems to agree with me.

This week we are going to discuss the new and (maybe) improved Panic at the Disco.

This topic is really hard, and kind of upsetting to me. It is because Panic at the Disco's song, "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" was the first Alternative Rock song I ever listened to. I was hooked from the very start. When Panic! crossed over to Panic (minus the exclamation point), I was very disappointed. They sound too much like the Beatles now, I think (comments?). Do you wanna hear about two teens about to get it on in a car? Or some green gentlemen. I mean, look at the differences in lyrics. Which would you rather sing at the top of your lungs?

"Is it still me that makes you sweat?
Am I who you think about in bed?
When the lights are dim and your hands are shaking as you're sliding off your dress?

Then think of what you did
And how I hope to God he was worth it.
When the lights are dim and your heart is racing as your fingers touch his skin.

I've got more wit, a better kiss, a hotter touch, a better fuck
Than any boy you'll ever meet, sweetie you had me

Girl I was it, look past the sweat, a better love deserving of
Exchanging body heat in the passenger seat?
No, no, no, you know it will always just be me

Let's get these teen hearts beating. Faster, faster."

OR

"Things have changed for me, and that's okay.
I feel the same, I'm on my way, and I say.
Things have changed for me, and that's okay.

I want to go where everyone goes,
I want to know what everyone knows
I want to go where everyone feels the same.

I never said I'd leave the city,
I never said I'd leave this town.
A falling out we won't tiptoe about."

See what I mean? I would pick the first one any day. (tell me what you think.)

Well, anyway, while I do not think that their change was for the better, there is one thing that has not changed: their awkward names for songs. From songs on their old CD (A Fever You Can't Sweat Out), like "Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off" (whoa), to songs on their most recent CD (Pretty. Odd.), like Nine in the Afternoon (I don't think this one is that bad) and The Piano Knows Something I Don't Know. Their new song titles are a bit shorter (thank god), but just as absurd. Wouldn't you agree?

Well, even though I am not completely thrilled with their so-called "upgrade," they are still wonderful artists. (And not to mention hot!)

This is all for this week, but don't worry, more coming up next Thursday! We will be discussing a rough spot in the AR world, Disney Channel stars crossing over to real artists. Including Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) and the Jonas Brothers! (Yea, I know what you're thinking, "Good luck with that one!" )

Okay, so that's it! This is giovanna bitches... saying, "There is an Alternative." Goodbye and see you next week.
