He mostly understood that she wouldn't be around anymore and that it was a sad thing, but he didn't understand how she had died. He was confused when Madelyne (then Ginger) left a few weeks later, but he coped with it. Now at eleven, Emmett is more understanding about what happened, however, he still misses his older sisters. He visits Madelyne twice a year in New York and they go sight-seeing and catch up on what's been happening. He refuses to call her anything but Sis or Sissy. He lives with their father.

Since Gabs’ biological mom is dead and her stepmom is a real bitch, Gabrielle doesn’t really have anyone to talk to other than Madelyne. That’s where Bettie Aerin comes in. She looks upon Gabrielle and Madelyne as her adopted nieces seeing as her own daughters are all grown up and moved out.

Cooper is pretty much the goody-two-shoes best friend; he was always getting good grades; he always kept out of trouble; and for a few years he kept Cameron out of trouble. He loves Casiee like his own daughter because he has been there along with Cameron through everything in her little life. Cooper tags along with Cameron to NYC to help make sure that he stays out of trouble and to help with Casiee. Cooper has a very outgoing and bright personality that is easy to rub off on you even though he's an ophan and has been for as long as he can remember. He lived with the Cookes since his parents' deaths.

Madelyne's best friend in New York. Dancer. Gabrielle has a very bubbly personality that tends to keep Madelyne afloat most days. The two met at school and Gabbie immediately saw that Madelyne needed someone to be there for her. Gabrielle encouraged her to move in with her and helped Madelyne to pull out of her depression. The two remain insperable.

The light of her father's world. Casiee, pronounced Casey, was a mistake that saved Cameron's life. She was born when he was 20. Because of Casiee, Cameron cleaned up his act and moved them to NYC. She is a sweet, spoiled little girl. She loves to play pretend and act. Cooper is like her uncle seeing as he lives with them. Both Cameron and Cooper are all she's really ever known for family due to her grandparents and mother not wanting anything to do with her. She is named after her auntie, Jaycee.

Troublemaker from Texas who moves to New York for a second chance. In Texas, Cameron got arrested for a couple of DUIs and narrowly escaped being in an accident while under the influence. He had been to jail three times before he accidentally impregnates his girlfriend. The girl refused to take care of the baby girl after she was born so he was forced to take charge of his daughter and it scared him enough to clean up his act for her. He moved to New York City to start a new life for both him and Casiee.

Gabrielle loves her father because he was basically all she knew as a child after her mother died and he took her along on all of his business trips. Then, he married Nerma Kaside, who became Jyllianne's mother. James began leaving Gabrielle at home with Nerma and baby Jyllianne instead of taking her with him.
