Her relations in the 19th century consider her wise, if not a bit eccentric, while the 21st centuries ones consider her flat out crazy. But Florence knows more than anyone realizes.

Head of the McCoy family, Randall lives his life by a strict, Godly code. He can never forgive Devil Anse Hatfield for deserting the Confederate Army, nor can he ignore the insults the Hatfields continually give his family. He is devoted to his family, but anyone who loses Randall's trust is hard pressed to win it back, and Randall will stop at nothing to get revenge for the wrongs against him.

Nancy is the neice of Randall and Sally McCoy, cousin to Roseanna, Calvin, Tolbert, Bud, Jim and Pharmer. Her father was ***ed by Jim Vance when she was a girl, and so she holds a fierce hatred toward all Hatfields. Patient and cunning, Nancy is willing to bide her time to get her revenge. With her brother a drunk and her mother dead as well, Nancy has learned to rely on no one but herself to get what she wants, and is willing to do what must be done.

Tolbert McCoy

Hot-headed and bullish, Tolbert McCoy is the second son of Randall and Sally. He takes the slightest thing as an insult and fixes any problem with his fists. There is nothing he likes better than beating on Hatfields, and is as predatory as they come.

Pharmer is the third eldest of the McCoy children, but with the weakest personality. He is easily persuaded to do things he shouldn't by Tolbert, and makes impulsive decisions that are ultimately detrimental. Slightly dim-witted, Pharmer neglects to foresee the consequences of his actions.

Bud McCoy is a bit of a push over, but constantly strives to act tough in front of his older brothers. His conscience leads him to defy them now and again, but it is always for the good of the family.

Wall Hatfield is a judge and the justice of the peace in Mate Creek, West Virginia. Unmarried and without children of his own, Wall spends much of his time with his younger brothers large and active family, though he disagrees with some of Anse's more militaristic decisions considering the feud. Wall believes in letting the law take its course, but even he can get wrapped up in the heat of the moment at times.
