The writing guidelines seem reasonable to me, except for the bit where they're exceptionally tough on wayward grammar.
A story being banned for incorrect grammar? Isn't that being a bit of a grammar nazi? Especially if you're violating it for effect. (Lol, too much reading of 2.1 English standard.)

Scene change at the end was a bit abrupt (you seem to have a bit of trouble with those) but the entire chapter worked pretty well.

Ne, Carlton and SIDS kinda is relevant to recent goings on in NZ too, with the trial of Chris Kahui for the deaths of his twin baby sons. That being said, I hope nothing like that happens to Melanie. (Being charged with abuse of her baby or neglect or something.)
If that does happen though, I hope you're not going to saddle Big Alec with their care because there's enough kids running around the place. Besides, we haven't heard anything about Dani for a while.
