I think that it's good he's being respectful of her and he should support her teaching career for however long she wants to work. Athletes aren't the only ones who are gone a lot and they get a lot of time off in the off-season. Salesmen, fishermen, truckers, visiting nurses, all sorts of people travel a lot for work and I imagine that most of them don't have the luxury for their spouses to stay home if they want to. Hell, military people can be gone for weeks, months, even close to years. So it's bullshit that a WAG can't work. They can if they choose to and they can not work if they choose to. But it's a choice, not a necessity.

It would be crazy for her not to worry, at least short term, about living with and off of a rich guy that she's only been in a relationship with short-term. It can be a stressful period full of adjustment (on both sides) to go from a fully employed, full of purpose independent woman to an unemployed and possibly unenthusiastic housewife. Some women flourish at home and some just don't. If she does this, she needs to be aware that she might hate and resent playing the little woman/helpmate. It's not for everyone. It's really not. WAGs just have the financial security to live off their guys with all the pluses and minuses that come with that and that come with their lifestyle. Many 'normal' folks don't have that luxury (and it's a luxury for many couples/families for one person to choose to be unemployed), they make do with seeing each other if and when they can.

Ch. 8, actually, the way to deal with assholes like her uncle is to set boundaries, expectations, and then make very clear the consequences. I.e. if you speak badly to or of me and mine, you will be asked to leave. If we are visiting, we will leave and will make it clear why we are leaving. If you speak thusly to us on the phone, we will hang up. Until such time as you can keep a civil tongue, you are not welcome in our presence and we will not grace you with ours. Ignoring him tells him that there are and will be no consequences to his actions and that he has the power. He is a bully. He says this crap because he gets away with it and no one calls him on it.
