Chasing the Moon

Curiosity Killed the Cat

"What's your name?" I asked quickly, trying to drown out the sound of my heart racing as well as to fight off the hysteria festering in my gut.

"Aiden. Yours?" he asked quickly, chest rising up and down so quickly as his breaths became raspy. I found myself breathing the same as him: gasping for air.

"Gabriella," I whispered, relaxing a little, but not much. I bit my lip. "I like that name. Aiden," I smiled.

"I like Gabriella," he breathed back, smirking. I felt blood rush to my cheeks. "Forgive me if I'm rushing, but maybe we should go somewhere else," he told me quickly, glancing around. "I'm done for the day, I think."

He led me away, but not before I cold catch the scent of my own kind. I glanced back as he dragged me. Was my brother following us? He had company, I knew, so I let Aiden drag me along. Until we got to the woods I knew to well, anyway.

"Stop!" I cried, planting my feet onto the ground. He turned around, confused.

"What?" he asked, hurt.

"I can't go there. My brother told me not to ever step foot in there. Who knows what is on the other side!"

"I do," he told me, pulling me into an embrace.

"You do?" I whispered, curiosity getting the better of me. He nodded.

"I know, Gabby. I live in there. There's a nice little town in there. You'll love it, I promise."

I took a deep breath and glanced around, looking for any sign of the guy I was about to betray.

"Take me there."
