The Connection She Wants is With Him?

Sophie hit the bullseye and sighed.

"Magnificent Soph," Her teacher commended her,"You okay? You seem a bit glum today,"

"I'm going on a lunch date after this," She took a seat and looked at the practice target.

"One of your mother's?" Ron Johnson asked. He had been her teacher since her 6th grade year and the two had become great friends. He was about 28 and one of the best Archers in the state.

"Truly. But I'm going out with some of my friends tomorrow. Maybe that'll be better," She smiled.

"It should. Plus, Summer will be over soon. You need all the fun you can get!" He chuckled as they both got up and started shooting again.

"Sophia, that's enough. You need to get ready for Bryan," Her mother shouted. Sophie waved, saying she would be there in a few.

"Thank you for the lesson. Same time next week?" She put some of her stuff away.

"Always," Ron smiled watching his student walk away.

After changing into what her mother chose for her, she walked downstairs to find Bryan awaiting her.

"It's nice to see you again," Sophie smiled.

"You too, you look lovely this afternoon," Bryan commented,"Now, we must be off,"

"Bye mother," Sophie waved goodbye and walked outside.

Sophie's POV

"Where are we going for lunch?" I wondered as we walked down to his BMW.

"I thought maybe Naples," One of those fancy restaurants that I had been to a couple of times before.

"Great,"I said and slipped into the front seat after he opened the door for her.

"Bryan, are you okay with this whole date thing,"I asked after he started the car.

"Why yes, I know my mother wouldn't choose anything less than the best for me. That's what I want, the best," he smiled looking at me.

He was a sweet guy, yet not the guy for me.

"Sophia, what's your favorite color," He asked randomly.

"Blue, yours," I asked back.

He chuckled,"Also blue."

"Are we going to start playing twenty questions?" I asked not even expecting that to come.

"Why yes. So favorite sport,"

"I love archery, but as a contact sport soccer. Favorite food?"

"Steak,"

Over that drive we got to know each other well. I thought that there could be a little potential there, but that we would just end up as friends.

When we got there, we ate our meal and had a nice converation about our schools combining. After, he drove me back to my house.

"Well did you two have a nice lunch?" My mother greeted us at the door smiling.

"Yes Mrs. Adams, your daughter is truly lovely," Byran smiled,"I hope to have the pleasure of seeing her again," He hinted.

"How about Saturday," My mother blurted and I shot her a glare before nodding.

"Thank you for today," I gave him a simple hug and went upstairs to change when I heard music coming out from Jordan's room. I peaked in to find the same four boys from yesterday, playing guitar hero.

"Don't you guys ever get tired of seeing Jordan?" I asked them leaning in the doorway.

Nick was the only head that turned, everyone else was concentrating on the screen,"Never," The others replied.

I rolled my eyes and smiled at Nick before leaving to change. After changing, I went over to my keyboard just playing little things. Shortly after I had begun, there was a knock at the door.

"Come in," I said without turning.

"Hey Sophie," Nick's voice rang and I looked back at him.

"Oh, hey,"

"So, how was it?" He wondered sitting on my bed. I shrugged.

"That's all I'm getting?" He laughed.

"It was a nice lunch. The food was good. Conversation was good. I just didn't feel that connection," I criss cross apple sauced on my bench turning to Nick.

"What connection?"

"The one that I can just tell him all my problems and he wouldn't care. He's just like one of them,"

"Like who?"

"These adults. Sure, I'm mature and can be adult like, but he's brain washed. He told me he wants the best, nothing less. Trust me, I'm not acting little miss perfect twenty-four seven," I huffed and in response Nick chuckled.

"So, you're not seeing him again I suppose,"

"Ha, I'm seeing him again. Saturday. All thanks to mother,"

"Well just show him who you really are," He shrugged,"Now, do you play this instrument," He pointed to my keyboard.

"All my life," I looked down at it and then up toward him,"Will you play me something?"

"Yeah, sure," I scooted over for him to sit with me,"Now what do you want me to play?"

"One of your favorite songs that you've written,"

"Okay, so this was on one of our old songs. It's called 'When You Look Me In the Eyes,"

If the heart is always searching,
Can you ever find a home?
I've been looking for that someone,
I'll never make it on my own
Dreams can't take the place of loving you,
There's gotta be a million reasons why it's true.

When you look me in the eyes,
And tell me that you love me.
Everything's alright,
When you're right here by my side.
When you look me in the eyes,
I catch a glimpse of heaven.
I find my paradise,
When you look me in the eyes.

How long will I be waiting,
To be with you again
Gonna tell you that I love you,
In the best way that I can.
I can't take a day without you here,
You're the light that makes my darkness disappear.

When you look me in the eyes,
And tell me that you love me.
Everything's alright,
When you're right here by my side.
When you look me in the eyes,
I catch a glimpse of heaven.
I find my paradise,
When you look me in the eyes.

More and more, I start to realize,
I can reach my tomorrow,
I can hold my head up high,
And it's all because you're by my side.

When you look me in the eyes,
And tell me that you love me.
Everything's alright,
When you're right here by my side.
When I hold you in my arms,
I know that it's forever.
I just gotta let you know,
I never wanna let you go.

When you look me in the eyes.

And tell me that you love me.
Everything's alright,
When you're right here by my side.
When you look me in the eyes,
I catch a glimpse of heaven.
I find my paradise,
When you look me in the eyes.
Oh

His song made me smile, I closed my eyes listening to it over again in my head,"This is the connection I want. They one in your song,"

"I hope you find it," He said softly to me.

"I do too," I looked at him.

"Do you write lyrics," He asked.

"Not like your perfect ones, but they're okay," I shrugged going under my bed to get my journal and handed it to him.

"Will you play one for me,"

"I guess, but I want an honest opinion,"

"Oui. Play this one," He pointed to a song called 'Ordinary Day.'

Just a day,
Just an ordinary day.
Just trying to get by.
Just a boy,
Just an ordinary boy.
But he was looking to the sky.
And as he asked if I would come along
I started to realize
That everyday he finds
Just what he's looking for,
Like a shooting star he shines.

He said take my hand,
Live while you can
Don't you see your dreams lie right in the palm of your hand

And as he spoke, he spoke ordinary words
Although they did not feel
For I felt what I had not felt before
And you'd swear those words could heal.
And as I looked up into those eyes
His vision borrows mine.
And I know he's no stranger,
For I feel I've held him for all of time.

And he said take my hand,
Live while you can
Don't you see your dreams lie right in the palm of your hand
In the palm of your hand.

Please come with me,
See what I see.
Touch the stars for time will not flee.
Time will not flee.
Can you see?

Just a dream, just an ordinary dream.
As I wake in bed
And the boy, that ordinary boy
Or was it all in my head?
Did he asked if I would come along
It all seemed so real.
But as I looked to the door,
I saw that boy standing there with a deal.

And he said take my hand,
Live while you can,
Don't you see all your dreams lie right in the palm of your hand
In the palm of your hand,
In the palm of your hand.

Just a day, just an ordinary day
Just trying to get by.
Just a boy,
Just an ordinary boy.
But he was looking to the sky.

"It's wonderful in every way," Nick smiled at her masterpiece.

"Really?" I asked.

"Yeah. I mean it would sell records. You want to become an artist don't you?" He suspected.

"Yes, but in my reality it won't happen," I sighed turning off the electric instrument.

"Why not?"

"Because my future consists of being a great lawyer," I faked my enthusiasm.

"They don't like the music business do they?" He had a hint of a chuckle as he said this.

"Not at all," I sighed,"But they've never heard me,"

"You've never sung before in front of them," He asked shocked.

"No, I have," I reassured him,"But they won't really listen. Just watch,"

"Well then I'll be your number one fan," I laughed at his remark.

"Hey Nick, some of my friends and I are going to the movies tonight. Do you want to join? Get to know the people at school, maybe even see your old friends," I suggested.

"That would be nice,"

"Okay, uhm, the movie starts at seven,"

"Do you want me to pick you up or meet you there,"

"Why don't I pick you up and then we can take your car," I knew was my mother was going to think when Nick came.

"Sound's good,"

"Okay I'll be there at six,"

"Great, see you then," He smiled, but with smile, my stomach had a weird feeling in it. It wasn't bad though, I wanted it to stay forever.

"Bye," I tried to keep my voice as even as possible. He walked down to Jordan's room as I closed my door thinking of what I should wear.
