After an abrupt and unexplained departure leaves Carlos Quentin bitter about love, he swears off long-term relationships for good.

Not only does it hinder his personal life, but his work on the baseball field is struggling as well. Just when it seems like he'll never get out of his slump, a new teammate named Gordon Beckham motivates him on the field while Gordon's sister motivates Carlos off of it.
