Carpe Noctum, Seize the Night

Flirting with danger

(Maggy's PoV)

As soon as we enter the living room, we see an infuriated David and an apologetic looking Jesse and we brace ourselves for David’s preach.

“DIDN’T I TELL YOU TO STAY OUT OF THIS?! I COULD HAVE KNOWN YOU WOULDN’T LISTEN! ESPECIALLY YOU MAGGY!”

“We would have protected her if something had happened,” Louis points out but David ignores him.

“DON’T YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS THIS IS! THEY MANAGED TO KILL A MAN WHO WAS ONE OF THE MOST GIFTED MEMBERS THE TALAMASCA EVER HAD! THE ONES WHO HAVE KILLED HIM PROBABLY HAVE A POWER THAT CAN RIVAL THE STRONGEST VAMPIRES! AND YOU KNOW THAT MAGGY!”
He sighs and mumbles “I’m out,” before walking away.

When he’s gone Jesse looks at us. “He found out on his own and when he did, he went mad and there was nothing I could do or say to stop him from yelling at you as soon as you retuned. Sorry everyone.”

“It’s alright. He’s like that because he cares,” I say.

“So, did you discover anything?”

“Nope, this whole night was pretty much useless,” Merrick replies sadly.

I decide to go to bed, figuring a few hours of sleep would help me cope a little better with all the frustration I’m currently feeling. Because the mansion on the French Quarter my friends share has tons of quest/ bedrooms, I can stay over for the night.

When I’ve dressed down to my panties and a top, Lestat enters my room, without bothering to knock, of course.

“Going to bed this early?”

“I still have a job to go to in the morning and I could use some sleep Lestat. I’ve never been a fan of having to get up early but since my only friends can commit suicide by sunbathing now, my dislike for it has only become stronger.”

“Trust me cherie, you’ll miss the sun when you’re a vampire.”

I shrug as a reply.

“There’s one thing I must ask you, though.”

“Ask away.”

“How come you aren’t afraid of us?”

“Well, Jesse and Merrick are like sisters to me and even though they’re immortal now their personality hasn’t changed and because of that, it isn’t that difficult for my to look past their current appearance and bloodlust. The same goes for David. Besides, I’m part-time Talamascan remember, I’ve seen vampires before. As for Louis and you….”
I shrug again.
“I’ve been watching Louis lately and besides the fact that he has been very kind to me, it’s quite obvious Merrick means too much to him to stop him from harming one of her best friends.”

“And I?,” Lestat asks with a smirk.

“You haven’t scare me yet, monsieur De Lioncourt. Besides, I’ve always liked a little danger. In fact, that’s what gets me always into trouble. Instead of staying away, I tend to get involved.”

Lestat’s smirk grows wider and moves closer so that his mouth is close to my neck and ear.

“That’s good to know. Sweet dreams, my darling,” he whispers before leaving.

I stare at the place where he stood seconds ago, feeling confused as I remember the shivers that went down my spine when I felt his hot breath on my neck. I got into my bed with one question on my mind: did I just flirt with Lestat de Lioncourt?
